To not understand what Philip Scofield did wrong?

I’m not a fan of Phil or Holly and have never watched This Morning. However, I’ve read about the issues the show has been facing in the news recently and am at a loss to understand why Phil had to step down. What did he actually do wrong?

I know his brother has been imprisoned for a heinous crime but obviously that’s nothing to do with Phil. So I don’t understand why he decided to resign.

Wait....there's allegations he knows what his brother was doing

No proof?

And how does anyone know for a fact that he was aware of what his brother did but didn’t go to the police? That seems unlikely?!

Phil said so on the witness stand.

cheesywotsit62 · 20/05/2023 20:33

Google “Matthew Mcgreavy Injunction”.
Then maybe you’ll see why Phil is a bit worried.

Is the young runner thing actually backed up by evidence though? Just curious as it all just seems like a lot of hearsay and speculation. But as he did step down there clearly must have been some reason for it.

Is your Google broken? Can't you do your own research?

disembodiedvoice · 20/05/2023 20:33

Didn't Phil only make a statement to the police once his brother was already under investigation, even though the brother had told Phil about it some months earlier. Enabler...

Because it came out in court.

Phil knew about it for months. The boy ended up reporting it to the police himself. There's plenty of articles about it.

Azealeasinbloom · 20/05/2023 20:34

It came out at his brothers court case that Philip knew. Had told his brother to stop the relationship but had not taken other action.
Regardless of his relationship with Holly, that’s not a great look for This Morning. Coupled with the rumours of his harassing of a former lover/ worker on the show, he needed to be gone.

RedRosette2023 · 20/05/2023 20:34

FantasticMax · 20/05/2023 20:31

I don’t think Holly comes out of this very well either. Just someone who’ll cut ties if the person can no longer serve them well. Not defending Philip at all - but she seems ruthless and self serving and this has damaged her brand regardless.

I agree. I think it’s unlikely any of these events are a great revelation to her - it’s about publicity not morals.

He said it in his statement at the trial.

There are strong rumours that he allegedly had an inappropriate relationship with a young runner too and he seems to have a lot of enemies among colleagues as well.

The push in the media has been really distasteful tbh but it seems that he has a lot of enemies who've been waiting for an opportunity to move against him. I really hope the rumours about him are untrue.

Indeed. Apparently the super injunction ends soon, which is probably part of the reason he left.

The OP: “I’m not a fan of Phil or Holly and have never watched This Morning”

Also the OP…Asking lots of open questions and being over invested in someone else’s life

🙄

This has been reported by the BBC.

Gosh OP if you're not a 22 year old intern working for Phil's PR agency you certainly should be.

If this is a test for general public feeling / knowledge...I think it's pretty widely believed he

A) consistently over more than a decade belittled female co-presenters
B) groomed, had a sexual relationship with then fired a teenage boy
C) by his own admission failed to report sexual abuse of a minor carried out by his brother

Jellycatspyjamas · 20/05/2023 20:39

Had told his brother to stop the relationship but had not taken other action.

Can we not style child sexual abuse as a “relationship” please.

It was said under oath

Cat1066 · 20/05/2023 20:42

I'm no fan of Phillip Schofield but Holly has only started distancing herself from him since she thought he was damaging her brand. That's not what I call friendship. She's gone hugely down in my estimation. I liked her. Not now.

Doobydoo · 20/05/2023 20:42

Not really answering your question op but both he and Holly are pretty meh. Never understood why so popular. Same for Eamon and Ruth,Alison and Dermot. They all seem really sleazey.

Swrigh1234 · 20/05/2023 20:43

Must be something in their genes.

LindorDoubleChoc · 20/05/2023 20:50

If he had to go because of giving his brother a pass, she'll have to do the same in the not too distant future when his inappropriate relationship/s with industry juniors (which she would have known about) come to light.

HadleyVaughn · 20/05/2023 20:54

It's nothing to do with the brother. That is a convenient excuse.

It's because of the other story that had been rumoured on the internet for a long time but now the media are sniffing around it.

This had just been media circles and internet gossip but nothing had been published for years but ooh look on 13/14 May 2023

Isn't that the norm in showbiz? I don't think a premium is put on loyalty there.

icannotsay · 20/05/2023 20:55

I think there will be a lot more coming out soon. Another big scandal!

Bluevelvetsofa · 20/05/2023 20:59

I think it’s unlikely that he resigned. I suspect he was told to go and then he put out the statement.

Neither of them come out of this with any credibility.
