To not understand what Philip Scofield did wrong?

I’m not a fan of Phil or Holly and have never watched This Morning. However, I’ve read about the issues the show has been facing in the news recently and am at a loss to understand why Phil had to step down. What did he actually do wrong?

I know his brother has been imprisoned for a heinous crime but obviously that’s nothing to do with Phil. So I don’t understand why he decided to resign.

when I said ' I doubt it" I meant that I think she;ll be protected by the producers/directors/money men as they see her as a valuable asset financially and in TV basically that is all that matters

Never got into the show I watched bits of Richard and Judy because I was a SAHM at the time it was fun in Liverpool lots of amusing clangers, but at times serious. Is the format still the same? Resident agony aunt, resident GP

Off topic but is it really legal to emotionally abuse a partner? It certainly shouldn't be! Why should only physical abuse be illegal?

Florenz · 26/05/2023 19:24

They should get rid of it and put something mentally stimulating on in the morning instead.

All his secrets are spilling out now.

I feel a bit sorry for him.

You feel sorry for a man that clearly groomed a teenager, but "oh it's OK because nothing illegal happened" meaning he probably waited until his 16th birthday before actually having sex with him! And he also told his paedo brother to "not do it again" when he found out that he was in a sexual relationship with a teenager rather than reporting to the police, then had the audacity to make a statement saying "he is no longer my brother" total bullsht! The man is a liar.

SD1978 · 26/05/2023 23:32

Shagged a teenager, made his family support his 'brave' decision to publicly humiliate them by coming out as gay, and told his brother that he probs shouldn't keep being a peadophille, but didn't report it. I think they are all good reasons.

ClareBlue · 27/05/2023 00:01

He has just issued a statement saying he lied to everyone and that he won't be doing the awards or new series.
Better late than never, I think. He says it was bad judgement but not illegal what he did with the family friend's son who he first met as an 8 year old. Sounds like he managed to hold on until he was 16. Well done Philip, hope your family and friends are proud of your self restraint.
Still saying no injunction was ever taken out.
You've got to feel for his wife and daughters in all this.

I mean, I get feeling pity for someone who’s being publicly humiliated on an international scale (I’m on the other side of the world, and it was on the radio news this morning 😬), but….

He could’ve just not done it. It’s not that hard. Most people manage.

Canthave2manycats · 27/05/2023 03:48

I wonder if Timothy will also issue a statement saying that he no longer has a brother?

happinessischocolate · 27/05/2023 19:23

Philip says nothing happened until the boy was 16/18 whatever

In the words of Mandy Rice-Davies "well he would say that, wouldn't he"

happinessischocolate · 27/05/2023 19:31

@shammalammadingdong

I don't really understand why they are such a big deal, its just daytime TV fluff. But it seems to be A Thing, so she's asking a question.

Daytime tv fluff!! Guess you didn't care about Jimmy Saville or Rolf Harris either.

The fall-out was because Holly's kids have spent time around Phil's brother and she's absolutely fuming that he knew about the abuse and didn't warn her.

Of course! This would explain everything. A mother protecting her children. Now it all makes sense. This being Mumsnet, someone probably should have figured this out sooner!

This has been shared lots before. But if it allegedly is the reason it makes it worse imo. If the alleged stories are true she didn't care about other people's children, just her own.
