Petty AIBU but… sandwiches!

I make my partner sandwiches to take to the office most weekdays.

I do this in the evening then put them in the fridge for him to take in the morning.

If he decides to work from home instead, he still eats the sandwiches, despite lots of other options instead - eggs on toast, salad, quiche etc we have in the house.

This annoys me as it seems so lazy and I have sandwiches to make again for the next day. He could save the ones I made for the following day.

I’d love to know if this would annoy others too. It drives me mad.

Are you from 1940?

Why on Earth are you making a grown man sandwiches?!

This problem is easily solvable: he can make his own

Maybe when she's making her sandwiches, she makes him his. You know, like sensible partners when they are dividing labour.

Myotherusernamesafunnyone · 17/05/2023 18:55

Ask him the night before if he's WFH or going in to the office the next day. If he's going to be at home don't make him any sandwiches!

Winemeup · 17/05/2023 19:28

So you are annoyed he is eating the sandwiches you made? The location is irrelevant as 2 day old sandwiches are grim.

Justontherightsideofnormal · 17/05/2023 19:44

I think it would annoy me more if my DH didn't eat the sandwiches, working from home or not 😂

MALJA · 17/05/2023 19:48

I think you’re unreasonable to expect
him to eat 2 day old sandwiches because - barf!!!

but not sure why you’re getting so many ‘stop making a grown man sandwiches’ comments! We are still allowed to do nice things for our other halves are we not?

DuchessofSuffolk · 17/05/2023 20:03

Cos sandwiches always tasted better when made by someone else. My Nan used to make amazing ham and dairy lea sandwiches. I’ve tried to recreate them many times, especially as an adult to get that nostalgic feeling. But I cant.

Hard disagree. I hate sandwiches made by anyone else, unless I can see them doing in front of me like a deli.

toxic44 · 17/05/2023 20:37

Have you told him you resent him eating the sandwiches when he WFH? I bet it hasn't crossed his mind it annoys you.

battgirlatheart · 17/05/2023 20:45

Everyone saying they don’t agree with day old or two day sandwiches but I’m guessing those off packed ones in shops are at least a day old

Fanofbrianbilston · 17/05/2023 20:46

Put them in the freezer and he can take one out when he’s going to work.

Trishthedish · 17/05/2023 20:51

i hate to be the one to break the news, but pre made sandwiches are probably a few days old by the time they reach the shops.

TruthRevolution · 17/05/2023 20:52

I really want a sandwich now!

You haven't read the thread, have you?

You're actually about the fiftieth person to 'break the news'

joycies · 17/05/2023 20:56

Did you ever explain that to him? He might not even have thought of it !

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but many of us don’t eat pre made supermarket sandwiches for this reason (or just because they’re rank).

And I don’t eat them either.

Everyone knows that and if we didn't, its already been said. But seems obvious that those of us who don't eat old sandwiches don't eat them from shops either....

Frazzledstar1 · 17/05/2023 21:35

Completely missing the point of this thread but DP makes his own sandwiches and usually makes 2 days worth at a time - chicken salad (no tomato) - so I was quite surprised to see how many people said they wouldn’t eat them 2 days old!

Zone2NorthLondon · 17/05/2023 21:55

All this no 2 day, no 1 day sandwich, is an unexpected twist. Mn is usually competitively thrifty with no waste. The Magic 5 day chicken, Bulking out dinners for the week with pulses, lentils. Batch cooking. But not the sandwiches, I’m really agog and amused at the group revulsion regard a sandwich made night before. Let’s not even go there with the 2 day sandwich

I thought most folk made work lunch & sandwiches the night before
i cannot be bothered with faff in the morning so lunches, sandwiches are made night before plus I’m leaving at 630ish
pasta, curry, lasagne are up to 1,2,or 3 day old and popped in fridge (depending on amount left obviously)

Spiderboy · 17/05/2023 22:01

I wouldn’t eat 2 day old sandwiches….
so imo he is making use of your effort instead of binning them

Zone2NorthLondon · 17/05/2023 22:06

During covid my dp made me pasties, cakes, bakes when he was WFH and I worked
i grew to expect it, came to rely upon it as a treat

Not eating 2 day old sandwiches doesn’t mean I’m wasting food. I just don’t leave them for 2 days before I eat them 😂.

AnnieSnap · 17/05/2023 22:33

So you want him to eat two day old sandwiches the following day at work? Of course YABU If you feel so annoyed by this, stop making his sandwiches. You say he does nice things for you, so why do you want him to eat nearly stale sandwiches?

porridgeisbae · 17/05/2023 22:46

bread is very carby and no one can eat it every day

@Tomorrowisalatterday Nothing wrong with bread even for every meal if someone wants that. It's not particularly carbier than any other complex carb, pasta, rice etc.

MissingMoominMamma · 18/05/2023 00:07

You make him lunch- he eats it…
