Petty AIBU but… sandwiches!

I make my partner sandwiches to take to the office most weekdays.

I do this in the evening then put them in the fridge for him to take in the morning.

If he decides to work from home instead, he still eats the sandwiches, despite lots of other options instead - eggs on toast, salad, quiche etc we have in the house.

This annoys me as it seems so lazy and I have sandwiches to make again for the next day. He could save the ones I made for the following day.

I’d love to know if this would annoy others too. It drives me mad.

I can't honestly see what he's done wrong here. I do the same thing as him! I always prepare a lunch to take to work the night before, but occasionally plans change last minute and I have a day at home. I ALWAYS eat the lunch I'd already prepared! I wouldn't want 2 day old sarnies!

ON MN, there's usually an outpouring of faux-horror when any woman admits to doing one single thing for her DP.

Slight exaggeration.

The OP is clearly peeved at this sandwich issue, therefore people are obviously going to advise her to absolve herself of sandwich making duties. It's not rocket science.

"It's not rocket science" Grin

Thank goodness you cleared up that issue.

This reminds me of the thread of the woman who batch cooked Sunday roast and froze it in portions to be reheated later and couldn't understand why her husband wasn't eternally grateful! 2 day old sandwiches...nope.

I remember that!

My DH has often made me lunch (both over 50)

My husband has done all those things for me! Along with buying sanitary protection for me and our DD when he’s shopping. Bought maternity pads and breast pads when I’d just had our DCs.

We are both over 50 and if something needs doing we don’t think “oh that’s his / her job” …. we just do what needs doing be that ironing a shirt, cleaning the toilet or checking the oil in the car! (Except the pond filter…… I refuse to do the pond filter…. it’s so SLIMEY 🤮 ).

Hersetta427 · 15/05/2023 17:05

Wht are yu making sandwhiches when he is working at home the next day.

I wouldn't eat 2 day old sandwiches either. Only make them when he is going into the office.

Yeah. I have never once met a woman whose DH made her lunch, bought her pants/socks or packed her suitcase for a trip. But I barely know a man over 50 whose wife doesn't do all of those things.

You must know a very limited range of people.

I'm well into my 50s, so obviously many of my peers will be too, but I can't think of any couple who operate like that.

Nor, indeed did my parents, and they would be in their 90s if they were still with us.

Yeah. I have never once met a woman whose DH made her lunch, bought her pants/socks or packed her suitcase for a trip. But I barely know a man over 50 whose wife doesn't do all of those things.

This is mind-boggling.

GuestStars · 15/05/2023 17:14

I always make DC fresh sandwiches on the morning they need them. I don’t like fridge sandwiches. I don’t think he’s unreasonable to eat them the next day. The bread would be soooo soggy 2 days old!!

butterpuffed · 15/05/2023 17:26

I'm guessing everyone who is horrified by 2 day old sandwiches never picks up any from a supermarket .

I would probably say 60 but I definitely recognise the phenomenon.

My home office overlooked a dry cleaner for a long time and I saw a lot of women carrying men's suits in and out and not a lot of men carrying dresses for sure.

I won't claim to have surveyed everyone about their packing habits but when we lost DH's suitcase on holiday once the airline lady was astonished that I couldn't describe the contents because he had packed it himself. She just kept saying "so you don't know what clothes he's packed? What?" I was like "mate, just ask him, he's just there!"

No, I don’t. Because they’re rank.

ImPrawnCrackers · 15/05/2023 17:45

I hate sandwiches that have been in the fridge for one night! Let alone 2! (But I'm weird like that!!)

Correct.

MeinKraft · 15/05/2023 18:01

Why would he make a quiche when the sandwiches are right there? Maybe he doesn't want to offend you by not eating your sandwiches? Maybe he hates fridge sandwiches too and hasn't had the heart to let you know.

ReliantRobyn · 15/05/2023 18:10

Flyinggeesei234 · 15/05/2023 15:16

Thanks all. Repetitive posts about 2 day sandwiches are getting silly now so I won’t read more.

Thanks to others for input. I’m glad i
posted, it did help.

The sandwiches need to be eaten the same day. Who do you think you are ? Tescos discount aisle?

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 15/05/2023 18:13

Ktime · 15/05/2023 15:26

So he no longer gets sandwiches. She is not his secretary, she doesn't have to ask him every day if he is WFH the next day.

She is the one who wants to make him the fucking sandwiches. She's just not happy that he eats them at home. My suggestion was to make her life easier. What's your problem?

NeedToChangeName · 15/05/2023 18:22

ZeroFuchsGiven · 15/05/2023 16:13

Yes I found that when I googled, what I cant find is any evidence to your statement that all supermarket sandwiches had been previously frozen!

@ZeroFuchsGiven Oh I missed that part. I thought you were just saying you doubted that any sandwich could be frozen

Re supermarket sandwiches, I doubt they are frozen. Haven't heard of it before, and most of contain ingredients that can't be frozen eg mayo, lettuce, tomato etc

MysteryBelle · 15/05/2023 18:22

I think he should insist on you making his sandwiches the same morning of the day he’s going to have them.

Orders76 · 15/05/2023 18:27

Gross to 2 day old sandwiches, anyone who ends up staying at home eats the prepped lunch next day here and then we prep again from fresh.

Equalitea · 15/05/2023 18:30

I wouldn’t eat sandwiches that had been in the fridge for 2 nights. No chance.

I make mine and DHs lunches in the morning before work. I don’t think I could eat sandwiches that have been in the fridge overnight. I remember as a child my mum doing it and me being able to taste ‘fridge’ 😬

Orders76 · 15/05/2023 18:33

I used to have tuna sandwiches, probably a stronger taste than fridge lol

mumonherphone · 15/05/2023 18:43

I don't understand why you posted on here rather than having this conversation with him🤣
