Petty AIBU but… sandwiches!

I make my partner sandwiches to take to the office most weekdays.

I do this in the evening then put them in the fridge for him to take in the morning.

If he decides to work from home instead, he still eats the sandwiches, despite lots of other options instead - eggs on toast, salad, quiche etc we have in the house.

This annoys me as it seems so lazy and I have sandwiches to make again for the next day. He could save the ones I made for the following day.

I’d love to know if this would annoy others too. It drives me mad.

I’m not suggesting you’re owt else than a sentient being
I've never encountered strong opinions (any opinion) regard sandwich life
Worked with a colleague who made and froze a few week worth of sandwiches

Well I guess it’s not really an interesting thing to talk about in real life. Not sure I’ve ever told anyone I prefer my sandwiches freshly made. It’s pretty dull conversation.

Zone2NorthLondon · 16/05/2023 20:47

Oh trust me sandwiches and dinners are discussed in my work
best dramas are when someone sandwiches or lunch is stolen. That’s not dull it’s all v fraught
We have Multiple cultural & dietary preferences, so yes in RL it’s a thing. I’ve just never heard such string feeling regard 1-2 day sandwiches. As I said I had a colleague who prepared sandwiches weeks in advance and froze them

Jem123456789 · 16/05/2023 20:52

Well I’d be more annoyed if he didn’t eat the sandwiches I’d made! Who would want 2 day old stale bread either? So, yes, you are being unreasonable!

Wow, I’ve never discussed my sandwich preferences at work, or been bored with anyone else’s!

I’m not cross at all I’m bemused at the vigorous responses regard sandwich Made in advance (1 or 2 days) . Bemused at such strong reaction to sandwich made previously and eaten next day.

By all means have the food you prefer,I’m not going to compel anyone to eat 1 or 2 date sandwich . I simply had no idea an overnight sandwich was considered such a culinary aberration

Fwiw, I have made pasta pesto on a Sunday popped in fridge ate it Monday & Tuesday at work with no ill effect

This appears to be one of those mn quirks that I have never encountered in real life or heard anyone have a strong opinion on an overnight sandwich or 1-2 day old sandwich

Nobody in their right mind wants to eat a home made sandwich thats been sitting in a fridge for 2 days.

I won't even make my sandwich in the morning before work. I'll take the parts and assemble it at lunch time.

Something vaguely wrong with someone who eats a soggy sandwich. Like the burnt toast people or the really milky tea. Red flags!!

CallieG · 16/05/2023 21:12

If you resent it then Tell him to make his own sandwiches, are you his wife or his mother.

Bored86 · 16/05/2023 21:13

I don’t see how it makes any difference! You make this messages he eats them. Why would he want to eat sandwiches made two days before anyway?! Gross

Ibizamumof4 · 16/05/2023 21:55

I think it’s good using the food up rather than going to waste

I make my husband's sandwiches, and rock buns or cakes, wash and iron his shirts even polish his shoes. He in turn does other jobs for me such as making the drinks, weekly car checks, chopping the wood for our fire. What is it with the attitude of "let him make them himself"? Do couples not divvy up the chores any more and it's every man (and woman) for themselves?

Surely hubbies has every right to eat the sandwiches in the fridge, despite not going in to the office?

PyongyangKipperbang · 17/05/2023 01:47

For me its not the making sarnies issue so much as the expectation that his lunch is her job.

DP and I dont live together by choice, I was cooking (my downtime) and said I would make his lunch for the next day at the same time and he said "oh dont, I am WFH tomorrow but thanks anyway"

Thats the thing for me. If he sees her making his butties and doesnt say anything, knowing that he actually doesnt need them, that is selfish and lazy. He wants a nice lunch but doesnt want to make it! He is taking his premade lunch for granted. Oh and I work for a supermarket, if you think that your shop sandwich is fresher than one made at home the day before, well bless you!

I would be changing things up with telling him that I will make his lunch if he tells me he is in the office the next day but if he doesnt then I wont. And if he WFH at the last minute, I would eat the damn sandwich!

MRex · 17/05/2023 05:57

I'm getting curious about what people are putting in these sandwiches that makes the prep so arduous.

Slow cooked ham or lamb isn't done only for a sandwich, that's the sandwich using up leftovers; bacon or chicken might be cooked fresh butt only if you're eating it straight away. There's usually butter, a max of two items as filling (meat, cheese, spread such as houmous), a few bits of salad (leaf, tomato, onion, cucumber, olive), mayo/hot sauce, pepper. You could layer or chop stuff up tiny and mix it. Any which way, it's a few min task. So why is it causing so much angst?

Tomorrowisalatterday · 17/05/2023 07:00

I can't even bear to eat a sandwich with freshly baked bread that I have assembled 5 minutes before eating it. I can't believe people eat that, it's all soggy and yucky..

I just have the bread in one hand and the filling in my other hand and alternate bites.

Anything else is rank.

Ugh, your way is so stale. I stick my head in the oven and lick the bread as it bakes, then run to the fridge for my filling. Anything else is for slatternly oafs with no taste buds.

Oh but can't you taste the fridge on your filling - disgusting!

Really this thread has strayed away from the main point though - bread is very carby and no one can eat it every day

do stop projecting your disordered thinking regarding food. People can and do eat bread daily. There are lots of type of bread sourdough, ciabatta, focaccia wholemeal and they’re all delicious and can be eaten daily.

I am actually quite surprised that a thread about bread didn't degenerate into the anti carb pro massive salad brigade

I like both bread and salad ..
