Letting children wee in the night yes or no?

ToWeeornotToWee · 14/05/2023 20:39

Do you let your children wee during the night? I’m talking school age children who are old enough to hold out till morning.

Imagine the noise of them using the toilet wakes up the grown ups in the house disturbing their sleep.

Does that change your opinion?

Edited by MNHQ to add that there's a bit of a vital update from the OP that should be read before responding later in the thread

A potty in the bedroom if they are very young?

Or tell them not to flush to loo.

You can't stop a child using the toilet just because it might wake you up.

loislovesstewie · 14/05/2023 21:16

If anyone needs the lavatory, then they need to use it and flush. Anyone who says otherwise is being abusive.

Lochjeda · 14/05/2023 21:16

This is terrible. If I wasn't allowed to pee when I woke up in the night I wouldn't be able to get back to sleep and would be very uncountable. Why is that fair on a child, the adult is a cunt.

PollyAmour · 14/05/2023 20:48

I'm wondering if this is the piss troll.

Same...'tell me stories about forcing child to hold in urine' 🤢

Scalottia · 14/05/2023 21:17

Sorry OP just read your update....that's really horrible. That is bizarre - he really forbids them from weeing in the night? What an arse. I wouldn't send them there anymore.

StarDolphins · 14/05/2023 21:18

Wow, who would stop a child going to the loo whenever they needed it😱

WhiteBloatus · 14/05/2023 21:18

This is mental, and unhealthy. No one should be holding their pee til morning if they need to go… they go!

HebeMumsnet · 14/05/2023 21:18

Evening, folks. We have had a number of reports about this and just wanted to pop on to say that this OP has been here for some time and never been any trouble before, so we've no reason to think she isn't genuine.

For those who have not yet spotted it, it may be worth reading the OP's update on the thread.

Rosebel · 14/05/2023 21:18

Their dad sounds horrible. Do they have to go as in court ordered or is it a choice? If it's the second then I wouldn't let them go or tell them to wet the bed (depending on how he'd react)
All of us in my house use the toilet in the night and it wouldn't even enter my mind to tell the kids they can't use the toilet.

Perpetuallyexhaustedtoddlermum · 14/05/2023 21:19

Would you rather they wet the bed as opposed to going to the toilet like everyone else?
I hope this isn't real for the sake of those children.

ImTheOnlyUpsyOne · 14/05/2023 21:20

Of course. If they need to go, they need to go. Would you rather they wet the bed?

Zanatdy · 14/05/2023 21:21

What an odd thing for them to refuse - I mean who stops anyone from a natural bodily function

Rockschooldropout · 14/05/2023 21:21

Just seen your update - your poor dcs 😩it’s cruel , needing to use the loo is a basic bodily function and preventing someone from doing so is most definitely abuse , I Would be taking steps to stop his overnight contact .
I was not allowed to use the toilet at night but I had an undiagnosed congenital kidney defect , subsequently the recurrent kidney infections I ended up with damaged one of my kidneys .

SarahSmith2023 · 14/05/2023 21:22

what happens if they do use the toilet in the night?

if they were my kids I wouldn't make them go, he would have to take me to court (again).

Abusive prick.

converseandjeans · 14/05/2023 21:22

@ToWeeornotToWee

Youngest (6) is having recurring tummy aches and headaches. Oldest (10) is experiencing really bad anxiety every Saturday night and Sunday morning before they go to his.

I don't think I would be allowing them to go to stay over. Has it started since he got a new partner? It's a really controlling thing to do.

CheshireCat1 · 14/05/2023 21:23

You need to have a serious word with your ex before you let your children stay overnight. Children need to go when they need to go, your ex shouldn’t on any account stop them.

KittyAlfred · 14/05/2023 21:23

This is abuse. They wouldn’t be staying there again if they were my kids.

Even in prison there's a toilet in the cell! Because when you gotta go, you gotta go.

Get it in writing from him OP, a text about it or something, and then stop them staying over night.

I assume your poor DC are scared to be told off for going to the loo, but also terrified of the reaction if they have an accident. What an arsehole.

Comedycook · 14/05/2023 21:24

This is upsetting to read ..your poor kids. Sounds like torture.

Perpetuallyexhaustedtoddlermum · 14/05/2023 21:24

Just read the update. My God. What a weird and controlling man. I'd not be sending my children back there until this was sorted.

Freddiefox · 14/05/2023 21:25

It’s abuse, and dangerous for their bodies. Email/text him for evidence then stop them going over nights.

I have to wee in the night quite a few times.

If they need to go, I imagine they're just going to wet the bed because they can't held out till morning.
