Letting children wee in the night yes or no?

ToWeeornotToWee · 14/05/2023 20:39

Do you let your children wee during the night? I’m talking school age children who are old enough to hold out till morning.

Imagine the noise of them using the toilet wakes up the grown ups in the house disturbing their sleep.

Does that change your opinion?

Anyone needs to go for a wee anytime, they get to go and wee. I come from a family who has suffered many degrees of kidney reflux. No one but the most ignorant would discourage a person going for a wee.

LividHouse · 14/05/2023 20:43

People who have massive and long-lasting bladders really do have a privilege that us ultra-frequent wee-ers cannot comprehend.

Shoemadlady · 14/05/2023 20:43

This is a terrible thing to ask. Do you never need a wee in the night? If you do it's impossible to sleep and the thought that your children would need the toilet and be too frightened to go or to ask for help is truly horrific. What on earth is the matter with you?!

Nousernamesleftatall · 14/05/2023 20:43

Of course. Who wouldn’t?

MrsDoylesDoily · 14/05/2023 20:43

Eh?

Too weird.

AtlasSeven · 14/05/2023 20:43

I’m not sure which way the voting is, but if my DC need a wee in the night, then of course they’re allowed to go.

We even leave the bathroom light on to make it easier for them to find the bathroom in the night if they need it.

ballsdeep · 14/05/2023 20:43

Have you ever tried to hold yourself and go back to sleep?! You’re bonkers

BreehyHinnyBrinnyHoohyHah · 14/05/2023 20:43

This can't be real!

TokyoSushi · 14/05/2023 20:44
Confused
IncompleteSenten · 14/05/2023 20:44

What kind of twat would even think of that?
If someone needs the loo they should be allowed to go.
Who can sleep when they're dying for a pee anyway?

It's cruel.

roundtable · 14/05/2023 20:44

Jesus hopefully this is a troll

BadgeronaMoped · 14/05/2023 20:44

Yes. I hate being woken up but... they learn to do it independently in time. And if its that bad noise-wise, just get them to flush solids only.

Sissynova · 14/05/2023 20:44

*Imagine the noise of them using the toilet wakes up the grown ups in the house disturbing their sleep.

Does that change your opinion?*

No not really. Do you ban your spouse from going for a wee?

Obviously it’s different if they are at that age when you know they are just on the wind up and saying they need to pee like ten times to avoid sleep/ need a snack/ need X Y or Z. But no I wouldn’t put a ban on using the bathroom.

I don’t understand what age you think means they can hold it to the morning? I’m 32 and often need a wee in the night.

MightyEagle · 14/05/2023 20:44

Gentle question - did you suffer abuse as a child? The phrase "let" a child use the toilet is not normal. Using the toilet is a very basic right, not a privilege that adults control.

BooksAndHooks · 14/05/2023 20:44

Of course I would never restrict when anybody can use the toilet. Sorry, but full bladder trumps people sleeping.

inkworks273 · 14/05/2023 20:44

Of course they can use the bathroom whenever they need to.

SparkyBlue · 14/05/2023 20:44

This cant actually be real

user1473878824 · 14/05/2023 20:44

Well this is batshit. Who STOPS a child from weeing in the night just because they “can” hold it. Says who? Fucking mental.

melj1213 · 14/05/2023 20:44

Why on earth would you want a child to hold it in just in case they wake parents up?

How do you know they can wait?

I could understand if the question was "Our toilet is very old and the flush is very loud and teenage DC wake us up when they use the loo in the early hours as the sound reverberates, and the pipes are so loud as the cistern refills etc. AIBU to ask that if they go to the loo before 6am they don't flush so that the rest of the house isn't woken up?" Because that is not unreasonable at all, but asking them to wait is

bloodywhitecat · 14/05/2023 20:44

"Letting" them? I wouldn't begin to know how to stop someone from going when they need to go.

ballsdeep · 14/05/2023 20:44

I’d rather someone getting up to wee instead of changing wet bed sheets

ohnoyoudidNOT · 14/05/2023 20:44

Surely a troll! WTF!

Crunchymum · 14/05/2023 20:45

Are you the piss troll?

IncompleteSenten · 14/05/2023 20:45

roundtable · 14/05/2023 20:44

Jesus hopefully this is a troll

There's a resident piss troll who gets off on stories of kids and pee.
Not saying this is them but freaks like that do exist.

TempUsername9 · 14/05/2023 20:45

Imagine the noise of them using the toilet wakes up the grown ups in the house disturbing their sleep. Does that change your opinion?

Err, no - no it doesn't. How could the fact that the grown ups are light sleepers trumps the child's basic, biological need?

Expecting the grown ups to wear ear plugs is a far more reasonable solution than expecting the child not to pee when they need to!
