There's just no need. It should be 'my friend and I'...shouldn't it? Not 'myself and my friend.'

First world 🌎 problems, I know. 😂

I am not. Head of English is a known "tell myself" offender.

When I was at school, we were constantly told in the sciences, that we should write up experiments in the 3rd person impersonal. I noticed nobody told my DC this at school in the sciences.

I am not surprised! I complained to DS English teacher at GCSE, that nobody was correcting his spelling and grammar in his written work. He shrugged his shoulders.

DS complained to me, that during his first year of university, his lecturers had to teach him how to write formal English for academic purposes, including correcting his grammar and spelling and to write in the 3rd person impersonal.

Imo, English teachers are not doing their students any favours, by leaving it to universities to teach them!

This also drives me to distraction. I think it's due to a lack of reading good quality books, and not knowing the difference between spoken language and written and how to use grammar appropriately.
There's also regional dialects to consider, which adds a layer of complexity, especially when you look at for example, Wales, where the Welsh english is a combination of welsh grammar and english grammar, making an interesting sentence structure.

It's also pissed me off just responding to your comment because predictive text doesn't suggest correct words to use. Aaarrrggggggghhhhh!
