To not understand why anyone would not watch the Coronation?

OK, I get that you are an edgy republican, but are you not a little bit nosy?
And if you really don't care, why are you on every Coronation thread telling everyone you don't care? Why would you not just ignore them, as you don't care?
I personally have no time for the Royal family and think they should be abolished completely, but I can't imagine not watching such a big thing for the whole country, in the same way I watched the euro Cup final even though I could not name any of the players as I have no interest in football.
Why wouldn't you?

I've not been on any threads at all saying I don't care. This is my first.

YABU

I'm not watching because not only do I not care, I absolutely cannot stand any of them. I have no idea what time it's on, but if it's between 3pm and 5pm I'll be watching the football. If it's outside this time I'll be lounging around and listening to audible.

I’m not watching but am also not ‘in town’. I’m clearing my garage and baking.

Of course. But Saturday mornings are always busy times in town. I can't believe the vast majority have just chosen this morning to clean out their garage and bake a cake.

gazpachosoupday · 06/05/2023 14:15

I have watched it because I think its historical and I have never seen one before.

I doubt I will watch William's though

Ginnybaby · 06/05/2023 14:16

It’s history in the making and like Elizabeth’s coronation will be played for generations to come. I don’t really have strong opinions either way on the monarchy but I grasp the historical significance of what played out today, so yes, I watched it. I’ve not seen one before as I wasn’t born when Elizabeth ascended the throne.

many historical acts we don’t agree with, but looking away says more about the person than the act.

my opinion, is it does not make you edgy, it makes you ignorant.

@Katypp....

>>>has no time for the Royal Family...

>>>posts a thread on the royal family....

my wife has it on... the unintelligible Latin choral music has started to give me a migraine..... but, I think its great he decided to save money by not having all the stamps and cash immediately replaced and running his aston martin on vintage wine....

...as he arrives in his solid gold stage coach, having transferred from a custom Daimler, to enter a building (also seemingly made from gold) to have his head adorned with literally priceless gems.

Literally of no relevance to modern life in the UK.

Haha. The coach isn't solid gold! They'd never be able to move it. It's made of wood.

SchoolQuestionnaire · 06/05/2023 14:16

But it was historic and I am glad I watched it

That’s great. Perfectly valid viewpoint and I’m glad you enjoyed.

The weather is lovely here so I’d rather sit in the garden and enjoy a rare day of sunshine and relaxation. I’m not an ‘edgy republican’ although I’m not really into the Royal Family either, I just can’t think of anything worse than being sat in front of the tv on my day off. Surely that’s also valid?

Iris1976 · 06/05/2023 14:16

Not interested in the slightest,TV not on,my mum throwing a coronation party later,I'm going to that simply because it's a family get together, will try to not discuss the coronation at all.

Okunevo · 06/05/2023 14:17

I'm not interested. I don't watch any celebrity events or football finals or any of that either. This is the first thread about this I've posted on.

Ladykryptonite · 06/05/2023 14:17

Not seen one before? So never seen footage of Elizabeth's?

waterlego · 06/05/2023 14:17

Because I find long-winded church services really boring. A lot of churchy language goes over my head and is meaningless to me. I like choirs though and also enjoy the music and marching in the parades.

Nightlystroll · 06/05/2023 14:11

People say they're not interested and won't watch, but I had to go out during the ceremony and there was no one on the streets in town. So I reckon more people are watching than would admit it.

My oh hates the monarchy so definitely not watching but had assumed all the shops would be shut today. He was quite surprised when I said they would be open.

Maybe a few have thought similar

Ignorant of what?

This makes no sense to me. I know it’s happening, why does not watching make me ‘ignorant’? I’m just not interested in spending my day in front of the TV watching something I’m not interested in. I’ve got better things to do. I’ve read plenty about it in the news, I know what it involves, what different does watching it make? I am a republican, I’ve never described myself as edgy, I just have no interest in it. And my garage needed clearing.

Fandabedodgy · 06/05/2023 14:19

I'm not a republican but I didn't watch as I had other things to do.

We will see the footage for the next 2 decades though so I will catch up.

SallyWD · 06/05/2023 14:19

But it's going on for HOURS! Some people have other things they have or want to do. I've watched a few minutes here and there because I was mildly curious. However, I'm only home because it's raining. If it was a glorious day we'd be out on the Yorkshire Dales not giving the coronation a moments thought.

Belledan1 · 06/05/2023 14:19

I have recorded it and just fast forward the bits like arrival, seeing the little ones and the crowning. Managed to clean my house and pop to shop in between. Some of it was a bitboring. There will be plenty of highlights too.

lljkk · 06/05/2023 14:20

Because stage 1 Giro & Vuelta Feminina are BOTH on to watch instead. I want that sunny weather, sigh. Fierce battle between D. Vollering (somehow dropped in crosswinds?) & A. van Vleuten. van Vleuten is leading with Gaia Realini on her tail, 20 years her junior, descending together at 75 km. Vos looked so strong 2 days ago but seems to finally be ceding at last to youngsters (except van Vleuten isn't a youngster at all...)., Will Realini take it on the line???

Wish i could have ridden like that.

Robinni · 06/05/2023 14:20

Because I have work to do today.

And I don’t like Charles and can’t stand Camilla.

Him making her Queen rather than Queen consort was point I thought… nah not interested. You’re selfish.

I like history but I'm much more interested in things like how ordinary people lived.

JassyRadlett · 06/05/2023 14:21

I'm not sure how much curiosity came into it? It was all very Man In Hat Puts Hat On Man, to paraphrase Private Eye.

We had it on because my kids wanted to watch, and
messaged back and forth with my monarchist mother. It seems to have succeeded in making her think the whole institution is a bit silly and my kids thinking that the whole thing was slightly less credible than the Legend of Zelda. 'Did Camilla just have to touch magic sticks so she could be Queen?'

QueueEtwo · 06/05/2023 14:22

I can understand that people don't like the Royal family or the King or the Monarchy as an institution but I don't understand why people aren't interested from a historical point of view.

Only 1% of the population have seen a Coronation in their lifetime & the Service it's self goes back over 1000 years.

I don't understand why people aren't just a little bit curios! 🤷‍♀️

JassyRadlett · 06/05/2023 14:22

The music was outstanding, though.

5128gap · 06/05/2023 14:22

I'm not an edgy republican. I'm a middle aged very mainstream boring as a wet Saturday afternoon republican. Being a republican is not a trend or conceit. Nor is it synonymous with not being interested in royalty or caring about the coronation. Replicanism is a specific political belief that there should not be a monarch. So obviously we care that another has been thrust upon us.

Anothernamename · 06/05/2023 14:22

It’s not at all about being an edgy republican. People have very valid reasons for finding the coronation hard to stomach. If you don’t understand the reasons why then you are likely privileged enough not to be affected by many of the issues in our society.

Nonverbalmum · 06/05/2023 14:24

I’m not watching it because the entire thing is pissing me off on a personal level. I’ve just been informed that DH (armed forces) is not now going to be home until late tomorrow despite having been promised (and therefore promised the kids who haven’t seen him in three weeks) that he’d be released by this afternoon. So thanks to he fucking coronation I have two primary aged children crying and upset and a screaming teething baby all kicking off internment is while I try both to entertain them to write an essay.

I do appreciate its history in the making, bringing communities together and that I need to grow up and it’s not all about me. But this could have been done on such a smaller scale.
