To not understand why anyone would not watch the Coronation?

OK, I get that you are an edgy republican, but are you not a little bit nosy?
And if you really don't care, why are you on every Coronation thread telling everyone you don't care? Why would you not just ignore them, as you don't care?
I personally have no time for the Royal family and think they should be abolished completely, but I can't imagine not watching such a big thing for the whole country, in the same way I watched the euro Cup final even though I could not name any of the players as I have no interest in football.
Why wouldn't you?

People who say it's History in the making, it's a meaningless phrase everything is history in the making.

It's wild people think people are ignorant because they don't want to watch it.

It’s really not. It’s been seven decades from the last coronation. Most people have not seen one on their life time, it’s not like rangers playing Celtic. The fact you think it is, says everything about you that you don’t want said.

willWillSmithsmith · 06/05/2023 14:43

I’m watching. My son is strongly against them so he’s not watching. I think it’s worth watching for the historical value although it was a bit dull but I don’t like church services generally. I would have been more interested if it had been William and Kate though.

Erex · 06/05/2023 14:43

I don't want to watch it because I'd prefer not to spend any of my Saturday bored to tears. There is plenty to watch that I find more interesting, and instead of watching a fancy hat being placed on someone's head I've done the washing, dishes, tidied up and played with the kids. Much better use of my time.

Juanne · 06/05/2023 14:43

Although not a royalist, I really liked Diana & looked forward to her being Queen.

TheGrimSqueakersFlea · 06/05/2023 14:43

Big thing for the whole country? What country?

HairyFarnbarn · 06/05/2023 14:43

Im not an edgy republican, I just don't care and Im not bothered about watching it. I don't really understand why you would watch a euro cup final when you aren't interested? Sounds like such a waste of your time.

Yogazmum · 06/05/2023 14:44

Not even had the TV or radio on as we’ve been out all morning at the kids football matches.
I’ve seen a few bits on Facebook but I’m not remotely interested along with many others I guess.

But then we're back to the question of whether this is really 'history in the making' or whether people have got a bit caught up in the hype and marketing that surrounds monarchy.

This might turn out to be a moment of historical significance but given the prevailing forces and the factors involved it feels a little unlikely.

There is a level of ignorance here, there is no arguing with, if you think Charles being coronated isn’t of historical significance then you do you.

aSofaNearYou · 06/05/2023 14:44

I have it on but I'm not watching avidly - I don't think it's hard to see that it's quite long and boring if you're not that fussed.

And I wouldn't watch the football for the same reason!

tappitytaptap · 06/05/2023 14:44

Not really - can see on catch up. I went for a long run instead, the kids stayed with DH and in-laws and got bored and went to help put up marquees for a street party later and draw chalk pictures on the pavements 😂. Just watched the balcony bit. Can take or leave the royal family tbh.

ShandaLear · 06/05/2023 14:44

I went to B&Q and got caulk. An historic moment.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 06/05/2023 14:44

Robinni · 06/05/2023 14:20

Because I have work to do today.

And I don’t like Charles and can’t stand Camilla.

Him making her Queen rather than Queen consort was point I thought… nah not interested. You’re selfish.

Queen and Queen Consort are THE SAME THING!
She IS Queen Consort, just as Queen Elizabeth was Queen Regnant (a reigning queen)
Both referred to as "the queen" or "queen name"
So many people don't understand this.

Againstmachine · 06/05/2023 14:44

Ginnybaby · 06/05/2023 14:38

Which is the same as saying I’ve no interest in history. Plenty of historical things occur I don’t agree with, but I listen watch and learn. Because it’s not about it I’m interested or not, it’s about watching history in the making.

Well what are you watching and learning from it absolutely nothing

And to say someone isn't interested in history because they arent interested in something happening in the present is pure stupidity.

You have been chucking the word ignorant about, you seem pretty ignorant of others views.

Sissynova · 06/05/2023 14:45

@Ginnybaby you’re getting weirdly offended by other people having a different opinion to you. Perhaps one of the other coronations threads would be more suitable to for you.

lap90 · 06/05/2023 14:46

Because like every other Saturday I have things to do.

Spidey66 · 06/05/2023 14:46

For the same reason I don’t watch Wimbledon, James Bond films or Real Housewives. I’m not interested.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 06/05/2023 14:47

Yes, I think someone's overtired and ready for a nap.

charliegirl86 · 06/05/2023 14:47

Why didn't I watch? Because I'm at work 🤷‍♀️

Ambertonix · 06/05/2023 14:47

I didnt watch because the whole lot of them make me want to vomit. All that money in a time when people are struggling to pay their bills and feed their families. Just utterly nauseating. HTH.

Againstmachine · 06/05/2023 14:47

She seems very angry people aren't watching it calling people ignorant, maybe she thinks we should watch it or be flogged.

Divorcedalongtime · 06/05/2023 14:47

Because boring boring boring boring. It’s all the same whatever country you are in and if it’s a funeral or coronation or wedding it’s all the same boring pointless money wasting exercise with horses and carts and far too many flags.

im always baffled about the amount of people with flags and how many otherwise normal people support this farce .

Erex · 06/05/2023 14:47

Ginnybaby · 06/05/2023 14:44

There is a level of ignorance here, there is no arguing with, if you think Charles being coronated isn’t of historical significance then you do you.

Surely if it turns out to somehow be extremely significant we can watch it on YouTube at some point? It's an historical occasion, doesn't mean it has any great significance.
You said you were watching and learning though, I am genuinely interested, no word of a lie, in what you learned from watching Charles' coronation?

JassyRadlett · 06/05/2023 14:48

Ginnybaby · 06/05/2023 14:42

It’s really not. It’s been seven decades from the last coronation. Most people have not seen one on their life time, it’s not like rangers playing Celtic. The fact you think it is, says everything about you that you don’t want said.

It depends on your view of history I guess? If it's 'things that we rarely get a chance to see' then I can see it from that point of view - not unlike a World Cup final.

If you see historical significance more through the lens of events that actually change what happens next - the things that actually make or change the course of history - then this event may not hold much interest. Accessions generally have more historical significance than coronations.

There's a fascinating The Rest Is History podcast on the origins of many of the coronation traditions and the history of coronations. For me, I found that of much more historical interest than the actual event itself. You can take an interest in the aspects that might have a bearing on the future - the subtle changes in tradition, inclusivity, etc - without watching it.

ilovesooty · 06/05/2023 14:48

Katypp · 06/05/2023 13:54

But you not watching changes nothing. Are you not a little bit curious?

No I'm not. I'm simply not interested

I don't see why you find that so hard to understand

NoPlansToday · 06/05/2023 14:49

I dislike the RF.

But I am interested in history. I will read about the coronation and any articles about the implications for the future of the monarchy.

Is that ok? Or do i have to stare at the screen and listen to sycophantic and biased presenters in order to show that I am interested?
