To not understand why anyone would not watch the Coronation?

OK, I get that you are an edgy republican, but are you not a little bit nosy?
And if you really don't care, why are you on every Coronation thread telling everyone you don't care? Why would you not just ignore them, as you don't care?
I personally have no time for the Royal family and think they should be abolished completely, but I can't imagine not watching such a big thing for the whole country, in the same way I watched the euro Cup final even though I could not name any of the players as I have no interest in football.
Why wouldn't you?

Couldn't give a toss tbh. I also don't own a TV so couldn't have watched it live even if I'd wanted to.

I went to the garden centre instead & it was blissfully quiet. Great decision.

RoseMartha · 07/05/2023 01:56

I planned to watch but had issues with my teens and so didnt, only seen a few snippets on tictok.

notaswearwolf · 07/05/2023 02:15

I just couldn’t care less about it. Had friends over for lunch and had a lovely time, haven’t watched a minute of it and don’t intend to.

l’M just not interested at all. We’re in London and the bunting looked nice the last few days but I’m the same way I like the Christmas lights.

Florenz · 07/05/2023 02:18

It's part of history. It'd be like intentionally not watching the Moon Landings or the Berlin Wall coming down.

Glitterblue · 07/05/2023 02:20

What a bitter sounding lot some of you are!

notaswearwolf · 07/05/2023 02:23

Why bitter? Just not interested. I feel zero bitterness at all. We had kids here from yesterday aged from 6-15 who had no one interest in it either.

Scirocco · 07/05/2023 02:26

It honestly didn't register at all on either my 'To Do' list or my 'Things That Interest Me' list. I only remembered it was happening on that day when I checked the news that morning.

Some people are interested in things like the Coronation. I hope they had a nice time. But my time is under far too many demands for me to waste it on things that don't need done and don't interest me.

cornflakesandtea · 07/05/2023 04:39

I didn't watch it because I'm in Greece and spent the coronation by the pool instead.
I don't think I'd have watched it if I was at home either. I'm not interested in it at all, but I haven't spent the last few months on every coronation thread telling people I'm not interested. Yes it's historic but I'd like to think I'll be alive for the next one as I'm much much younger than Charles so I might watch William's coronation.

Some really sneery replies here. Why do people make such a virtue of not keeping up with current affairs and pretending they did not know there was a Coronation? I would be embarrassed to admit that I am so poorly informed. But, as a pp so nicely put it, I am maybe a bit dim.

The beautiful irony 😂

Bubblyb00b · 07/05/2023 07:32

I would have watched it if I had nothing to do but I completely forgot... had some stuff to sort out and by the time I was done it was 2pm...

CremeEggThief · 07/05/2023 07:42

Because I'm not British and even though I have lived in the UK since 1996 and I respect the role of the Monarchy, they're not MY monarchy/rulers!

dreamingoaholiday · 07/05/2023 07:42

Why on earth would you watch football if you're not interested in it?

Or the Coronation, or anything else for that matter?

I didn't watch it as I was busy doing the kind of stuff I normally do on a Saturday - hanging out with the DC, stuff I need to get on with at home, a bit of feminist organising.

Why should I waste my time watching something I think is a monumental waste of time and money and shouldn't be happening in this day and age. It would have made me angry tbh.

We don't watch live telly anymore. We select what we want to watch and stream it. I listen to news on the radio daily, only very occasionally on the TV.

DP and our eldest did watch the first two episodes of new sci-fi series, Silo, last night. That was great. Lots of women in decent roles and an intriguing story.

Those are important, though.

The pomp and ceremony surrounding the coronation isn't. HTH.

The Berlin Wall falling actually meant something to me as someone who had lived in and was born in Germany. This means nothing to me, it makes no difference to my life.

This must be the stand out daftest post on this very odd OP this thread.

It’s not at all like those examples though is it?
I actually do get why people enjoy the pomp & ceremony or having a shared experience watching it with friends & family but I really don’t think you can compare a coronation to events that were monumental human achievements or that changed the course of the world. There’ll be another in what, 20yrs? And what will change because the face on a coin changes? In my opinion, it’s definitely not historically significant in the way that - for example - an election is.

It's nothing like these things 😂😂. There will be another coronation within the next 25 years.

I was on holiday when the Berlin Wall came down - so my family and I didn't watch that either.

Goingthere · 07/05/2023 08:29

I suppose the same reason I don't watch sports or soaps, and didn't watch Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad when they were all the rage. It's not something I'm interested in.

I'm surprised it's so difficult to comprehend that people are interested in different things.

Beezknees · 07/05/2023 08:29

Because it's boring and I didn't want to.

OneTC · 07/05/2023 10:21

If there had been a fly past I would have watched that bit. I love planes. I was at a friend's house on the jubilee and it happened to be really well positioned on the flight path and that was an actual highlight of my year 😅

Outofthepark · 07/05/2023 12:13

Not really 😄as one was the historic fall of repressive communism, a triumph of David over Goliath which happened to the sound of the Hoff of all things (who wouldn't watch that?!), and another was landing on another actual planet (can't imagine missing that either). Whereas the coronation was a rich old bloke who had some metal placed on his head, at a cost of quarter of a million pounds! We've paid for it, it's a step too far for anyone to have a go at us for not giving up our day to be parked in front of the telly to watch it, too!

Agree with you completely but the moon isn't a planet, it's the earth's satellite. I do completely agree with your points though and love your description of the fall of the Berlin Wall!

I wouldn't try arguing with her she's obsessed with the royals, judging by her other posts,I lost interest in when anyone who doesn't agree is ignorant.
