To not understand why anyone would not watch the Coronation?

OK, I get that you are an edgy republican, but are you not a little bit nosy?
And if you really don't care, why are you on every Coronation thread telling everyone you don't care? Why would you not just ignore them, as you don't care?
I personally have no time for the Royal family and think they should be abolished completely, but I can't imagine not watching such a big thing for the whole country, in the same way I watched the euro Cup final even though I could not name any of the players as I have no interest in football.
Why wouldn't you?

'I'm way too cool to watch, I went shopping/cleaned the toilet/walked the dog.'

'Was it today? I (am going to pretend I) had no idea!'

'I literally have zero interest in the Royal Family.'

'An obscene display of wealth and privilege when there are people out there who' can't afford to pay for their Sky or buy their fags.'

Yawn.

Haha put down the daily express my friend.

No newspapers here, just observations on MN posts today 😆

Love all the competitive disinterest posts 😆 Who cares if you watched it or not? Absolutely nobody!

Apart from the OP, you mean.

CorvusPurpureus · 06/05/2023 20:39

I watched lots of it because I'm an expat, & got invited to a watch party.

If I'm honest, we don't need much excuse to have a long weekend piss up.

I made coronation chickpea salad & it was absolutely banging, so I've added a useful recipe to my repertoire.

Missed bits as was in the pool &/or quite drunk, but I have to say it did look terribly awkward & outdated. Absolute nonsense, the whole thing.

ElTingo · 06/05/2023 20:40

Op I agree with you. Not particularly into the royal family, but it's a part of history and I do want to see and I wanted my children to see. Same with the world cup etc.

I think the difference in modern times is you never really miss out - you could watch the whole thing on i player and there will be clips everywhere, so I understand people not watching.

In fact I sort of regret not going out to somewhere thsts normally busy today and watching it later.

WhiteBloatus · 06/05/2023 20:40

Hi, zero interest in the coronation, find the whole concept grotesque, Charles is worth estimated £1.2bn, yet we all paid for that coronation and give him tens of millions from the taxpayer every year… (won’t even start on the rest) I was happy to boycott it.

MissingMoominMamma · 06/05/2023 20:41

I’m not an ‘edgy republican’, it just doesn’t interest me.

Coronationstation · 06/05/2023 20:43

No thanks. I had a much nicer morning doing things I enjoy. I’ve just seen bits of the “highlights” show and quite frankly it’s just a lot of really random shit with an over dressed old couple who look tired and bored of the whole saga. And let’s not even go there with the cost during a cost of living crisis……

On the TV? I hadn't seen it on news sites.

I know someone who went to a wedding today. He wasn't going to watch it either.

Not everything revolves around the royal family and some things have been planned for a lot longer than the coronation.

Spectre8 · 06/05/2023 20:49

As I siad, I didnt warch it but based on other events I have watched i can give you a general overview of what happened:

  1. ppl sitting in the Abbey since stupid o'clock clock in the morning waiting

  2. the king and queen and family arrive

  3. coronation begins with speeches, prayers, choir singing, the words to officiate him as king and her as queen, more singing, more prayers

  4. king and queen go out to public get into coach to Buckingham Palace

  5. lots of regiments march ahead of them

  6. ends with a wave on balcony.

I mean tell if I'm wrong but thats the gist of it right...

So what did I miss other than actually going wasting my time to see if with my own eyes...🙄 I mean its not like they chnahed the older of the crown or the coach that is worth seeing. Same old same old.

cobden28 · 06/05/2023 20:51

There's no point in watching it live on TV as we'll see it featured on TV ad nauseam over the next few weeks. Plus, in my case I don't approve of Camilla so I'd rather not watch anything she's invo;ved in.

JudgeRudy · 06/05/2023 20:51

It's a significant event, yet it isn't. Those not watching aren't necessarily anti Royal, inthe same way those watching arent all pro royal.
He's already King (presumably)so this is just a bit of pomp and ceremony.
You mentioned the world Cup. I have no interest in football so havent watched anything this year. One year I watched 'something'football related with some friends. I wasn't that interested but everyone seemed to be out and in party mood so I joined in. Saturday daytime l rarely frequent a pub and I rarely watch TV. If it had been in the evening I might have watched. I find catch the tail end though as I popped round my mums for a bit n she was watching. I genuinely didn't know exactly when it was other than this weekend. I have no feelings either walk about what I saw or missed. I was surprised when mum said Lional Richie was in the audience...and I thought that Penny woman didxa great job of standing, and looking like an air hostess!

But when you say this to anyone all you get is " but think of the millions it's generating for the UK economy" ....like any of it will come our way. We'll carry on being skint and working all hours.

Moonshine5 · 06/05/2023 20:57

@Okunevo
I can't remember but I've just googled and shows Guardian featured it in February

GettingStuffed · 06/05/2023 21:00

I couldn't have cared less . That's why I didn't watch it.

Castlerock44 · 06/05/2023 21:00

Outofthepark · 06/05/2023 20:21

For those of you who didn't watch, in the 5 minutes that I did, I heard a woman go on solemnly about how there had just been a special moment between the King, the Archbishop of Canterbury and God. Sounds like a weird cult to me!

Apparently Queen Victoria expected a visit from Jesus on her death bed. They really do think they're disciples of God.

Addicted2Kale · 06/05/2023 21:04

What an utterly bizzare OP. Clearly you love having stockholm syndrome.

Miajk · 06/05/2023 21:04

Katypp · 06/05/2023 13:54

But you not watching changes nothing. Are you not a little bit curious?

Curious about what?

An old fart born into extreme wealth and privilege, selected to be king in an undemocratic way will today be given an expensive crown and people who have nothing to do will be there waving flags.

I'm not really sure what there is to be curious about tbh?

You missed the bit where they touched magic/holy sticks that have royal powers.

Why is it so hard to believe that some people are not interested enough in the Royal family to watch hours and hours of live coverage?

EnthENd · 06/05/2023 21:09

I had other stuff I wanted to do, that can only be done on Saturdays and has already been waiting too long. No more or less than that. I saw some of the processions but was out during the ceremony.

Dungaree · 06/05/2023 21:14

I didn't watch it. My DC all had their usual Saturday morning activities and I always take them to them. If I had have been in I would have had it playing on the TV but I wasn't in.

I don't watch the world cup either.
