To not understand why anyone would not watch the Coronation?

OK, I get that you are an edgy republican, but are you not a little bit nosy?
And if you really don't care, why are you on every Coronation thread telling everyone you don't care? Why would you not just ignore them, as you don't care?
I personally have no time for the Royal family and think they should be abolished completely, but I can't imagine not watching such a big thing for the whole country, in the same way I watched the euro Cup final even though I could not name any of the players as I have no interest in football.
Why wouldn't you?

Some really sneery replies here. Why do people make such a virtue of not keeping up with current affairs and pretending they did not know there was a Coronation? I would be embarrassed to admit that I am so poorly informed. But, as a pp so nicely put it, I am maybe a bit dim.

I would be embarrassed to admit that I am so poorly informed.

I’d be more embarrassed to admit that I forget that we have the technological advances where people don’t have to watch things as they happen and can easily watch the coronation whenever they want via YouTube. If I can watch videos from over a decade ago, pretty sure I could watch the coronation if I ever feel the need or want to in the future. It will also likely be something shown to my children when they’re a bit older to understand in school.

Dweetfidilove · 06/05/2023 20:07

Not curious at all, no.

Rough Diamonds on Netflix was really good though 👌🏾

itsmylife7 · 06/05/2023 20:07

I've been having fun with my GC so it never entered my mind to watch it. Shes too young to take an interest or I would have watched if she wanted to

cansu · 06/05/2023 20:11

There will be pictures and mini videos all over the news. No reason to sit through hours of boring sycophantic coverage.

Starhead69 · 06/05/2023 20:13

Watched a bit of it. Seemed to be a lot of holding weird metal things, moving into different seats and lots of fancy cloaks.

BodyKeepingScore · 06/05/2023 20:14

Nothing to do with being "an edgy republican" - I just genuinely couldn't give less of a shit. Total non event...

AnyaMarx · 06/05/2023 20:15

I watched a bit - got bored - went back to sleep .

Not terribly edgy . Just disinterested.

ssd · 06/05/2023 20:16

I didn't watch it but im not edgy.

Castlerock44 · 06/05/2023 20:16

I was at my daughters, she had it on. I watched as much as I could manage. I don't think the monarchy are a force for good. I was annoyed at all the stolen gold on show.

Loudhousefun · 06/05/2023 20:20

I watched a bit and had a look that the pictures, very underwhelming considering the amount of ££££ spent. What a waste. They really are completely out of touch and dated, it needs to be abolished.

Outofthepark · 06/05/2023 20:21

For those of you who didn't watch, in the 5 minutes that I did, I heard a woman go on solemnly about how there had just been a special moment between the King, the Archbishop of Canterbury and God. Sounds like a weird cult to me!

IncyWincyGrownUp · 06/05/2023 20:21

I had a day out planned, so I went on it. History aside, I’m not missing out on some shenanigans with friends to sit watching telly.

MrsCharlieD · 06/05/2023 20:21

We didn't watch it. I've been cleaning, walked the dog and the kids have had their usual shows on. I watched the funeral and the big weddings but just wasn't fussed about this.

Shuggie1234 · 06/05/2023 20:22

I couldn’t give a fuck about any of the royals and actively avoid everything about them

Overthehill123 · 06/05/2023 20:24

I find the whole thing repulsive, I actively chose not to watch as the whole charade just pisses me off. I'm not edgy in the slightest, I just actively avoid exposing myself to something that I know is going to enrage me!

MrsMiagi · 06/05/2023 20:24

Didn't watch it, not curious, not interested. If anything I am surprised so many people are OK with the taxpayer cost given the state of things at the moment.
Also struggling with the sex offencer in the family who seems to have been given a pass. It's all sickening.

CoffeeWithCheese · 06/05/2023 20:26

Kids were at kick-boxing and I was on parental taxi - any minimal interest I had was stopped by the arrests of any potential dissenters this morning.

That was the point I tipped from minimal interest to active opposition

Okunevo · 06/05/2023 20:27

Moonshine5 · 06/05/2023 19:48

The Beeb waived the fee for today to watch the event because of its significance

How did they let people know? First I'd heard of it.

HappyMe6 · 06/05/2023 20:28

Not in the least bit nosey or interested in anything concerning the coronation

NadjaCravensworth1 · 06/05/2023 20:28

Because I have better things to do?

doadeer · 06/05/2023 20:30

I just couldn't care less. If there was a vote to abolish monarchy I would agree with it.

CoffeeWithCheese · 06/05/2023 20:30

And faux-naive threads like this just serve to piss people off. Pay for my TV, electric, licence fee and cost of wages for the relevant time and you get to dictate what I watch - otherwise, fuck off

WappersReturns · 06/05/2023 20:31

Well I had better things to do. MIL had the children and was I fuck spending my day watching telly full stop, let alone that. Can’t say I’ve mentioned that I don’t care anywhere at all either, aside from here, and you asked.
I keep up with current affairs very well, this is just an event I’m not interested in. I can see why some people are annoyed enough to announce they don’t care though, it’s annoying to have it shoved in your face constantly when you’re not interested. I feel much the same about sports. I get terrible event fatigue when it’s constantly pushed everywhere.

Pourmeanotherwine · 06/05/2023 20:32

I didn't watch, not interested. Didn't watch the final of the Euros either.
I wont be able to escape completely, I'm not a hermit with no internet, but hours of processions and weird costumes don't interest me. Yes I'm a Republican, but I wouldn't describe myself as edgy.

Jewelanemone · 06/05/2023 20:32

'I'm way too cool to watch, I went shopping/cleaned the toilet/walked the dog.'

'Was it today? I (am going to pretend I) had no idea!'

'I literally have zero interest in the Royal Family.'

'An obscene display of wealth and privilege when there are people out there who' can't afford to pay for their Sky or buy their fags.'

Yawn.
