So today someone has released a new video outlining the chef/campaigner Jack Monroe's many many lies AND it was announced today that one of her previous donors has been successful in getting her summoned to court to address an unpaid CCJ. As someone who has been irritated by her obvious lies for years I can't deny I'm so happy word is getting out!

The only thing that delights me is how she managed to con James O’Brian from LBC. His podcast with her basically consists of him giggling with admiration.

She did useful work about 10 years ago publishing cheap recipes, and because of her popular following she was able to highlight how the cheapest foods have had increases way above inflation. That’s probably more good work than many of us have done

She has 400+ Patreon backers. Do you think that's enough work to warrant that?

WilkinsonM · 18/05/2023 15:32

TrustPenguins · 16/05/2023 18:19

Why would she lie?

She is financially supported by the public for her 'activism'. She lies to keep the money coming in

She tried to help people, she has poor mental health.

I can think of far more people who deserve your vitriol than her.

How did she try to help people?
I mean since she was blogging about food poverty and wrote the first cookbook over ten years ago?
what has she done since to help anyone other than herself?

gattocattivo · 18/05/2023 17:00

She's 'the UK's best-loved expert on budget cooking' according to the Hay festival, where she's appearing this month. Hmm

More like 'the UK's best expert at scamming anyone on a budget'

Butchyrestingface · 18/05/2023 17:07

Imagine if she'd met Prince Harry before Meghan. She'd make the pair of them look like lightweights.

Boomboom22 · 18/05/2023 17:21

Unless the cookbooks are free everything she's ever done is bad for people in poverty. The recipes are awful and some unsafe. She's a con artist. And whenever she gets called out she's a victim. Oh my mh, oh my horrible family, oh I'm autistic, oh I'm non binary. And it gives people who actually are in poverty a bad name and makes the mc people who watch her think others are scammers top when they are actually poor. Not to mention her job is taking money from wc poor who pay to watch her nonsense, if she ever bothers to post any content at all.

Tina221 · 18/05/2023 18:22

She is not poor and she has taken money from genuinely poor people. Taking money from a woman receiving disability benefits is sickening. She does nothing to help people in poverty.

Out of curiosity, just looked at her Twitter feed.

There does seem to be need by her to be given and supplied with endless emotional ‘contributions’ too. It seems as though her tweets are about trawling for positive strokes and feedback from her followers rather than actual observations or opinions. There’s lots of: aren’t I doing well, I’m still here despite, you can’t stop me because, I’m a survivor of…etc etc. And the inevitable replies of her followers: You go girl, you’ve got this, don’t let them get to you, plus GIFs of fist pumps and power symbols.

The fact she allows commenting from only a selected audience shows either how fragile that ego is, or the equivalent of sticking her fingers in her ears and refusing to accept that others opinions may differ from hers, which if that’s the case, Twitter is absolutely the wrong platform. Although I assume to her it’s a useful tool for keeping her current and the focus of attention.

IClaudine · 19/05/2023 10:50

I really started to wonder about her when the Guardian published this article about her being a recovering alcoholic. Note the timescale between her getting sober and writing the article.

24KaratCucumber · 19/05/2023 11:02

There's never been any.proof.thats she's an addict of any kind. I know these days were all menat to believe first and never question, but as far as I can see it's just another Identity she's faked to distract and use to justify her shitty behaviour and deflect any criticism.

Just like the GP diagnosed Autism.
ADHD...
Trans. (Claimed she's taking male hormones and isn't a woman etc but is all over make up Facebook groups feeling all girly and such)
Lesbian. (But has a burger boy buggering her for 6 hours)
Struggling mum (but her kid sees her dad very often and the dad even moved in with Monroe for a while to help)
Poor working class benefit claimant (yet her family is wealth middle class OBE awarded foster carers)

Crikeyalmighty · 19/05/2023 11:13

@NowZeusHasLainWithLeda not dissimilar in some ways to Nigel Farage though! Build a following of vulnerable people prepared to donate and pocket the cash- although Farage had a wider base .

Cowparslee · 19/05/2023 11:16

She reminds me so much of Lily Allen! Not just looks-wise

SweetSakura · 19/05/2023 11:36

Hunger hurts 2 was a monstrous bit of grifting.

She's made a huge amount of money out of performative poverty. Often taking from the pockets of people with very limited means.

Radiodread · 19/05/2023 11:36

She comes across very similarly to the person I know who has narcissistic personality disorder.

Has anyone tried the recipes? I remember cooking 2-3 and my god they were awful! I don't remember all of them but one was some apricot curry - really bad!

OneTC · 19/05/2023 11:58

Same vein as Tommy Robinson, spotted an angle and working it like the proper conniving shites they are

Crikeyalmighty · 19/05/2023 12:09

@OneTC absolutely- which was why I mentioned Farage earlier.

IClaudine · 19/05/2023 12:12

I think it is a bit much to compare her to Farage and Yaxley-Lennon! They are both dangerous men. Jack is very small fry in comparison, most people don't have a clue who she is.

Good lord no! That’s quite a leap!

As for the recipes:
The bean burgers are pretty good, some of the soups (but how hard is a soup recipe?) and the falafels are not bad, but that’s about it from my experience.

JohnPrescottsPyjamas · 19/05/2023 11:58

Not sure if this link has been posted before - apologies if it has - but intriguing reading.

https://katieroche.net/jack_monroe_investigation_main.html

The most obvious harm is that she is receiving donations from people who are themselves struggling financially, but who think her need is greater than theirs.

I hadn't read this before. I think the background explains, but doesn't excuse, some of the chaotic behaviour and lifestyle. Though she can't be allowed to live off donations, possibly gained by exaggerating the extent of her poverty.

gattocattivo · 19/05/2023 12:36

@JohnPrescottsPyjamas interesting indeed!
Still, if she needed to take a sideboard or three to the pawnbrokers, she'd have at least one left.
