Going to a gig by myself?

Leapintothelightning · 05/05/2023 19:50

My absolute favourite band have announced a tour for next year. Since 2007 I think I have only missed one of their UK tours. None of my friends want to go... would I be mental to go by myself??

No! I did this very thing two weeks ago and had such a great time.

Do it!

Minniebojangles · 05/05/2023 19:51

No - do it!

midsomermurderess · 05/05/2023 19:51

Of course not. No one will even notice that you're on your own. If anyone does, you'll be a ten-second wonder.

TheKobayashiMaru · 05/05/2023 19:52

Of course not, why deny yourself? Is going alone that bad in your mind?

FourEyesGood · 05/05/2023 19:52

Go! I quite enjoy going to gigs solo.

FourEyesGood · 05/05/2023 19:52

Also, what band is it? (I’m nosy.)

Brefugee · 05/05/2023 19:53

I'm going to see a band, alone, in a few weeks because DH will be away
do it!
(who's the band?)

Plump82 · 05/05/2023 19:53

Do it! I was going to go to one myself before my MIL said she'd like to come along but my thinking is you go to a gig to listen to music, not have a chat with who you're with. So turn up just before they start and enjoy!

RichardMarxisinnocent · 05/05/2023 19:53

Of course not! You'll regret it if you don't go. (also want to know the band!)

milkysmum · 05/05/2023 19:54

I know several people who have gone to gigs alone and had a fab time. Go for it!

Gymmum82 · 05/05/2023 19:54

No I have done it frequently. I quite like it. Usually get front row. Don’t have to worry about someone else. Do it! Also what band?

Mercedesbenz2022 · 05/05/2023 19:55

Yes go !
i’ve been by myself and it was great ,, you may have a moment of thinking omg I’m on my own but once it starts you will be glad you went !
go ! Don’t miss out

I’ve gone to a few gigs alone. It’s fine! Nobody can see you’re standing on your own anyway.

MissFlimpkin · 05/05/2023 19:56

Yep do it. Much better to be immersed in the music without someone needing to talk to you every 5 seconds. Enjoy it, laugh, sing and dance like no one is watching- cos they're not.
If you're alone, stay safe, have a plan to get home. Don't tell anyone you're on your own.
Enjoy 😊

BCBird · 05/05/2023 20:04

Go for it. I have done this 3 times as I didn't want to miss out. I would definitely do this again.

Dinobooklover · 05/05/2023 20:19

Definitely go! I love going to gigs solo.

laloue · 05/05/2023 20:25

Definitely do it! Also there was a piece on Lauren Laverne @6music the other week about someone setting up a “gig going buddy” match up database so if ,like me, you spent the nineties in a mosh pit but your now dh loved Deacon Blue …you can find someone to go to the gig with. Don’t ask me what it was called though!

Hobbes8 · 05/05/2023 20:29

I’ve done it a couple of times recently. One (teenage Fanclub) where it was delayed twice due to covid and was finally arranged for Easter Saturday and no one was free. And two (Suede and Suzanne Vega) where they only had single seated tickets left. They were all concerts I couldn’t bear to miss and they were awesome. I thought I’d miss having people there but once the music started I really didn’t notice the difference.

Hobbes8 · 05/05/2023 20:29

Although I spent my 90s in a mosh pit and I love Deacon Blue…

rookiemere · 05/05/2023 20:37

I went to see Duran Duran on my own on Monday night. DH was prepared to accompany me to the Abba Avatars, but drew the line at DD - definitely his loss.
It would have been more fun with a friend, but I still had a great time and cheered and swayed along with those beside me.
I'm probably going solo to see Jamiroquai at Lytham festival as well, friend was meant to be coming but her DM has been unwell.

riseabovetheshite · 05/05/2023 20:38

Do it, you will be delighted you did!

Suspific · 05/05/2023 20:38

I've done this quite a few times. Standing it makes absolutely no difference.

evtheria · 05/05/2023 20:44

Do it! You're more likely to regret missing it than regret going.

I am super introverted and not the type to go out and easily start chatting to people... but I did NOT want to miss Kendrick Lamar on his good kid, mAAd city tour, so I went on my own. The worst bit was the queue, though you can get away with just being on your phone the whole time.... but once the show starts you can barely tell who is in a group and who was on their own. So glad I just did it 🙂

Leapintothelightning · 05/05/2023 21:01

Thanks everyone, think I will!
I'm quite socially awkward so have just always felt weird about going anywhere on my own (DH also said "it's a bit sad" when I suggested it to him 🙄) we don't share the same music taste AT ALL. I'd much rather be in a mosh pit and he would happily sit down and watch travis 😂

It's a 1.5-2 hour drive away so I would just leave right from work, go to the gig then drive right home! I'm used to driving myself there and back anyway so it's just the gig alone which will be different!

Loving all the nosy people... I'd be the same 😉
The band is Enter Shikari, was first introduced to them as a 15 year old and love them the same now 16 years later as I did then!
