To think most women do all of the self care beauty routines I do.

Had this conversation with a friend today that seems to think I'm high maintenance. I get my nails done every month and eyebrows and a facial. I also fake tan once a week. Botox every 6 months and get my lips slightly fillled twice a year ( I have naturally thin lips)

I was under the impression most women do these things if you care about your appearance. AIBU to think this ?

I like to have treatments and get a fair few off your list!
I’m 41, have botox in forehead which has helped massively with a horizontal line I was getting between eyebrows, that was starting to settle into a permanent frown look 😂
I get shellac every 3/4 weeks, lash lift and tint and brows done every 6-8 weeks. Hair extensions refitted plus my own hair coloured every 8-10 weeks. Facials and massages.

I love getting all of this done and despite the list I look quite low maintenance - a lot of the list above means I can wear minimal make up and still feel very done/put together/not dead 😁

MrsTerryPratchett · 04/05/2023 20:38

Surely you just need to walk down a normal high street to see all the hordes of women who are pale, with natural lips and wrinkles on their forehead. I mean, unless you live on the set of Love Island.

WeDoNotTalktoPennilynLott · 04/05/2023 20:38

TopBitchoftheWitches · 04/05/2023 20:26

Where I work there are four women who do this. Everyone else thinks they look ridiculous.

Yes. I don't think most women go for the fake tanned Botox look, I don't know anybody that does these things. I do look after myself and care about my appearance but don't like the fake look.

Fifi0 · 04/05/2023 20:38

AnnaTortoiseshell · 04/05/2023 20:33

It’s a certain aesthetic, I guess. I know people (through work) who do a lot of that kind of stuff. It’s not how I’d want to look but then I suppose that they wouldn’t want to look like me either. I do care about how I look, though.

I don't look like the typical botox people think of . Someone was calling someone a botoxed bitch I told her I'd had it and she didn't believe me. It's also great pain relief botox isnt just for wrinkles. I wear light makeup no duck lips, fake tan or huge lashes.

TomeTome · 04/05/2023 20:38

nails done every month NO
eyebrows done every month NEVER
facial done every month NEVER
fake tan once a week. NO

Botox every 6 month. NEVER
lips fillled every 6 month. NEVER

How much are you wasting on this?

blahblahblah1654 · 04/05/2023 20:38

I'm 38 and get my nails done once a month. That's it. Do people really need Botox in their 30s? I wouldn't think you'd have many wrinkles yet. I wouldn't have the money for all of that and don't like the fake look

Prettybutdumb · 04/05/2023 20:38

There are 2 mums at school who do the lips and cheeks stuff. It’s very obvious and such a bad look I can’t even make eye contact with them.

Zola1 · 04/05/2023 20:39

I do this, plus lash extensions and 6am gym...but I'm v aware I'm in a minority and that these things can be quite regional also

towriteyoumustlive · 04/05/2023 20:39

I have my hair cut once a year, I wash my face in the shower and use moisturiser. I use BB cream and mascara for make up. I cut my nails and occasionally paint them if I have time.

I like the idea of a spray tan as they look quite good if not too many shades darker than natural skin colour. But it wouldn't be my first choice of activity if I had free time!

I would never consider botox or fillers. I've never seen any lip fillers that look nice - they just look like the person has eaten something and had an allergic reaction.

What's wrong with just looking like me?!?!

Choconut · 04/05/2023 20:39

I don't do any of that. I just wouldn't want people to like me or think I was attractive based on stuff that wasn't real.

I thought it was just people on Love Island that did that sort of thing.

shadowchancesassy · 04/05/2023 20:39

I don't get my hair done much, maybe once or twice a year bit that's just a cut and colour, but I have nice hair so don't need it much.

I'm not really a mail person, just like short clean nails.

What I do regularly.

Sunbeds 2/3 times a week.

Micro blading top up once a year.

Eye brows tinted and waxed once a month.

Botox twice a year.

Lip fillers I've had done twice but prefer my own lips so haven't kept it up.

Dontlistitonfacebook · 04/05/2023 20:39

I do none of these things. I care about my appearance and look good.

BeeCucumber · 04/05/2023 20:39

I wash my face with coal tar soap once a month.

WorkingOnOurNightMoves · 04/05/2023 20:40

I don’t like that look, so no, I don’t do those things.

I cleanse my skin and moisturise and I look after my health and appearance by eating well and exercising. I wear some light makeup. I like a natural look with a fit, toned body.

Susurrar · 04/05/2023 20:40

I don’t think it’s “most women”, no.
I do think that botox and fillers are becoming increasingly popular though. I get botox to reduce the frown between my eyebrows. It’s the only
visibly aged part of my face and I hate it. I also get a very small amount of lip filler injected once a year. I don’t do the “inflatable” look and it’s hardly noticeable. You’ll get very polarised opinions on this on MN and mostly negative. I clearly live in a different world because I’d say at least half the
women I know well enough to discuss this, do “stuff” to their faces. We’re talking middle aged, professional women, not TOWIE style teenagers. But it’s done well and not in an exaggerated manner.

I don’t do any other regular treatments though, I struggle to find the time. I occasionally get my nails done or maybe a pedicure but that’s about it.

blahblahblah1654 · 04/05/2023 20:40

Fake tan is awful. What's wrong with natural colouring?

Fleur405 · 04/05/2023 20:40

I think there is somewhere in between not caring about your appearance and regularly getting stuff injected into your face…

MintJulia · 04/05/2023 20:41

YABU. I don't do any of those things. I care about my appearance but prefer a more natural look. I do my own nails, brows and facial.

I dislike fake tan so avoid it, and I don't need lip fillers.

I focus on healthy, glossy well-cut hair, clean clear skin, and spend what spare money I have on higher quality clothes.

Ontheperiphery79 · 04/05/2023 20:41

Nope, not in my circle, not even the well groomed, stylish few.
I am not one for a particular routine - neither the money nor inclination - and I like my wrinkles, as they add character to my face (I'm not particularly good looking, but am at peace with that).
Not having botox, lip fillers and fake tan doesn't mean I don't care about my appearance. I just prefer a more natural, unaltered look.
But, a chaçun son destin.

5128gap · 04/05/2023 20:42

Botox every 10m, cheek filler every 18m.
Hair every 5 weeks.
Do my own tan, summer only.
Spend 15 mins am and pm on skin care and half a day a week on hair treatment (DIY).
My natural lips and eyebrows are OK, but I'd have them done if they weren't.
I don't think facials give much bang for the buck or that nails make me any better looking, so I do my own, if I feel like it.
I spend a lot of time faffing about to make sure I get the right nutrition, and am obsessive about making sure I get the amount of excercise and rest I'm convinced I need.
I think I'm quite high maintenance and annoy myself at times.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 04/05/2023 20:42

I have my hair cut and highlighted regularly, Botox a few times a year, eyebrows and nails I do myself, and I prefer the natural colour of my skin, so no fake tan for me.

LindorDoubleChoc · 04/05/2023 20:42

I live in London and I once saw some women who looked like they came off the set of Towie at a restaurant in Victoria. They stood out like sore thumbs and everyone on my table of 12 noticed them and raised an eyebrow.

midgemadgemodge · 04/05/2023 20:42

There are 67 million people in uk
So 34 million females

less than 1 million Botox infections a year in the uk ( mostly female I am guessing )
Which if everyone has them every 6 months
Means less than half a million women have Botox

So that probably around 1 in 70 women have Botox

So that suggests your routine is very rare

Queestuproblema · 04/05/2023 20:42

OP this is common in my circle.

Cinnamonandcoal · 04/05/2023 20:42

I do none of those things also I'm sure plenty of women do because otherwise there wouldn't be as many salons.
I do care. I have the kind of job where I have to put effort in anyway. I wear makeup, do my hair, buy nice clothes.
