To think most women do all of the self care beauty routines I do.

Had this conversation with a friend today that seems to think I'm high maintenance. I get my nails done every month and eyebrows and a facial. I also fake tan once a week. Botox every 6 months and get my lips slightly fillled twice a year ( I have naturally thin lips)

I was under the impression most women do these things if you care about your appearance. AIBU to think this ?

I do not do any of those things!

However I'm seeing a lot more young women these days (usually in a very large out of town Tescos for some reason!) who've had really bad cosmetic procedures done. They actually look terrifying.

Capitulatingpanda · 05/05/2023 10:08

Ha, no I don't know anyone that does any of those things. Some of my friends wear makeup but that's about it. I can't even think of anyone I work with or partners of friends who is that obsessed with their appearance.

Wishawisha · 05/05/2023 10:08

I care what I look like but no, nothing like you’ve described. I think I’d be hard pressed to think of a single woman I know who does this much.

BabyTa · 05/05/2023 10:08

That sounds high maintenance! I get my nails/hair done every 8-10 weeks and that's high maintenance!

Bargellobitch · 05/05/2023 10:09

Some of the comments are wildly aggressive here. Why so mean?

I don't know anyone who does this. Where I lived people would get ridiculed for doing it.

OrigamiOwls · 05/05/2023 10:10

I think Botox & fillers tips this into high maintenance

Fair enough that you get all that stuff done OP. It's up to you. But I think YABU to assume most other women do. I'm 20 years older than you and can honestly say, at 36, I didn't have any 'need' for Botox. Not that I think anyone needs it. But 36?

I do as I come from a family who wrinkles from a young age!

Oxbridgetitans · 05/05/2023 10:11

gel overlay on hands and feet once a month (yes they can be natural and short just always look perfect and never chip) around £50-it’s lower maintenance than varnish as lasts so long!-you can apply tanning creams yourself at home quickly and cheaply and Botox twice a years around £400. It’s hardly extortionate! I don’t need lip filler but people with very thin ageing lips look great with expertly applied filler. You shouldn’t be able to tell when it’s done correctly-that will just look like they have beautiful full lips. There’s a strange opinion that fake tan is always orange and obvious-that’s just badly applied fake tan. You can do all of the above and more (& most women I know do-from all walks of life!) and look amazing and you can’t quite tell what they are having/doing as it’s done well. Also those saying ‘how do you find time!!!?’ Botox twice a year takes 15 mins each time. Applying tanning cream after a shower takes 10 mins once a week. One haircut takes longer than all of this. Do in the evenings/at weekends or whilst baby naps once a week IF you want. And if you don’t want to fine but don’t slate those that do and look great for the most part for it too. I can see there’s a huge amount of jealousy and resentment aimed at those who do on this thread. I am always amazed by the state of most women after kids. They look a mess for no good reason. They can’t be bothered to lose weight or do basic cheap grooming (it takes 10 mins to whack some basic makeup on for gods sake!) and honestly they don’t look like their former selves which is sad and must be awful for their partners. It’s not who they married. Sorry hitting nerves at all those this applies to. Take ten mins to yourself. You will feel better.

DarrellRiversCriminalBehaviourOrder · 05/05/2023 10:12

The fact that so many people insist they don't know anyone who gets Botox or fillers is proof that they can't tell. These are more popular procedures than you think. The waiting room in my clinic is always full of extremely normal looking people. Boringly so. I wish they did all look like they had the Hoover Dam for a forehead, it would be much more interesting.

That’s bullying. THAT is sad.

blahblahblah1654 · 05/05/2023 09:59

Besides how it looks, isn't it worrying the long term affects injecting all these toxins and poisons could do to you?

No. These procedures have been around a long time now. I've had botox in my 11s for 22 years. There's been no surge of horror stories involving its use, as I'm sure there would be by now. I'm more concerned about the long term health impacts of alcohol consumption, excess weight, and poor diet, which have a far greater chance of killing me than botox. So I avoid those things, and respect everyone has the right to choose their poison, as it were.

KellyanneConway · 05/05/2023 10:14

I think that you probably look great within your particular group of friends and peers but you’re equating only a particular look (WAG/ TOWIE/ Love Island) with looking good. As that look is pretty fake it is therefore high maintenance. Lots of other women don’t like or want that look but do take care of themselves in less expensive, time consuming ways. You’re wrongly conflating your preferred aesthetic with looking good generally.

QueefQueen80s · 05/05/2023 10:14

I do a lot of the stuff but to suggest it prevents affairs is disgusting. How do you explain the stunning actresses and singers who get cheated on? The fact many men have affairs with less attractive women?
And the ones criticising people who do have beauty habits etc, just another way to bring down your fellow woman.
Can't we all just respect and be kind to each other?

Dressertv · 05/05/2023 10:14

This has to be wind up post surely?

I also do all those things along with only eating brown rice with vegetables and organic chicken. Wake up at 5am to complete a workout, shower then do a full face of makeup and hair everyday. Before slipping in my designer outfit and heals to do the school run

Do you have any idea how infrequently the procedure needs to be done, and how short a time it takes?

A cut and colour every six weeks will cost far more in time and money. I had a balayage once, cost the same as my yearly Botox and took literally 12 times as long.

literalviolence · 05/05/2023 09:47

Wow that's a reach! I know perfectly well that people from different heritages have different lip shapes. I have friends whose parents hail from all over the world and o e of them look like they've had lip fillers. It's a very different look. It's very arrogant of you to think that not seeing things the same as you is refusing to accept some truth. I saidnyou needed to post side photos and you didn't so I'm not sure what you're going on about. I've not ruled out the possibility of making mistakes either just pointed out that a lot of people who think they have natural looking lips agter filler don't.

You said the angled view lip picture I posted showed the fake looking lip line you talk about being so obvious. Yiu also stated that is is always obvious.
You lost all credibility the minute you critiqued natural lips I posted and launched forth into your explanation of how they were so obviously fake to your discerning eyes. You can continue to go round in circles trying to convince yourself that you can tell but you blatantly can’t as you proved all by your little own-some. Any reasonable person would put their hands up and say ‘wow! I really thought they were filled. I was wrong’. But not you. You’re going to keep on trying to win an argument you’ve already lost by your own error. You are now fighting against yourself 😬

SchoolTripDrama · 05/05/2023 10:17

Nope! Most of us aren’t that vain.

you’ve just come on here to attempt to shame women who don’t, haven’t you?! Sorry to see that’s failed pretty spectacularly

Not remotely connected or what was said. But if you do all that good for you to be honest.

Horsemum40 · 05/05/2023 10:18

Sounds exhausting! 🤣 At most I put moisturizer on arms/legs/face. Some days I don't even brush my hair, but then I spend most free time either riding my horses or shovelling horse shit 🤣🤣

jejija · 05/05/2023 10:18

I do none of these things and I do care about my appearance. YABU (and high maintenance I guess), but if it makes you happy then go for it and don’t worry about what other people think! But if you’re only doing it because you think you need to then maybe realise that you really don’t need to.

Oxbridgetitans · 05/05/2023 10:19

If you don’t want to do that you wouldn’t feel any shame so why post that? It’s not vanity it’s self care. And being vain isn’t a crime.

Myfavouritecolourisanimalprint · 05/05/2023 10:19

I have one friend who does most of this. She has BDD and it makes her feel a little better about herself. I wish she could see that she is beautiful without any of it, but that's her condition. I don't do any of it, and couldn't afford it if I wanted to

DarrellRiversCriminalBehaviourOrder · 05/05/2023 10:19

"I can ALWAYS tell when someone's had Botox and fillers! ALWAYS! Even the smallest dose at the lowest frequency! I can ALWAYS tell! It's SO obvious!

"And I don't know anyone who does it!!!!"

You might not sell Botox to these people, but I bet I could sell them a bridge...
