To think most women do all of the self care beauty routines I do.

Had this conversation with a friend today that seems to think I'm high maintenance. I get my nails done every month and eyebrows and a facial. I also fake tan once a week. Botox every 6 months and get my lips slightly fillled twice a year ( I have naturally thin lips)

I was under the impression most women do these things if you care about your appearance. AIBU to think this ?

Yabvu. And setting a bad example to children who see you as a role model. What's wrong with your skin lips and nails that you feel the need to spend this money? Nothing and I'd strongly bet you look better without all the fakery. Sounds more like self hate than self care to me.

StupidCupidKeepsOnCallinMe · 04/05/2023 20:27

Wish women wouldn't put things in their face, especially when young. I don't care what they say, it is/becomes really obvious and even my kids laugh at how ridiculous they end up looking. You don't need it ladies!

Inthesamesinkingboat · 04/05/2023 20:27

I know many women who are very smart, well groomed and care. But don’t do this, this sounds to me like chasing a particular aesthetic and if you have similar friends then it could be common amongst them but I don’t think it is normal across ‘most women’

StopFeckingFaffing · 04/05/2023 20:27

I care about my appearance but like a PP I focus on health and fitness

I do get my brows done every 5-6 weeks

I have a facial once in a blue moon if I'm on a spa day

I paint my own nails occasionally

Never fake tan. Never botox. Think lip fillers look ridiculous!

Bemyclementine · 04/05/2023 20:28

Ha no. I mean, sone people do, there are a couple of mums on the school run who I'd imagine do all you list - one of them is a beautician (if that's the right word) and does brows, kashes, lip fullers etc..

I do care about how I look, probably less than most tbf, but prefer a more natural look.

mbosnz · 04/05/2023 20:28

Self care to me means cleansing, toning and moisturising my face daily, shaving when I can be bothered.

I could not be having with botox, my eyebrows do not need doing, I don't get my nails done because I bite them down to the quick. I do a facial at home when I can be bothered. Fake tan from a bottle at home when I can be bothered. Would never get my lips filled, slightly or otherwise.

It's not that I can't afford it, more that it's not my focus! It's yours, and that is fine.

3WildOnes · 04/05/2023 20:28

Never had botox.
Never had filler.
I get my nails done for special occasions.
I don't wear fake tan.
I do get my eyebrows done every 6 weeks or so.

I do care about my appearance but I guess not that much!

I only have one friend who has had botox and one who has had lip filler.

you do what you like, OP. I care about my appearance and don none of those things.

PollyPeptide · 04/05/2023 20:28

I think you're quite rude to imply that people who don't get these things done, are not taking care of themselves. In fact, I think some of these are done exactly because people have not taken care of themselves !

AgentProvocateur · 04/05/2023 20:28

Hahaha. No. Brows - that’s it.

PonyPatter44 · 04/05/2023 20:28

I think you probably are high maintenance - but if you enjoy it, can afford it and you feel happy with how the botox etc makes you look, then you crack on.

Fortunately I've never needed fake tan or filler, but I get my eyebrows done and paint my nails. I feel quite high maintenance sometimes!

RosaBonheur · 04/05/2023 20:29

I care about my appearance and I do literally none of those things.

DappledThings · 04/05/2023 20:29

Never done a single one of those things.

I know some women who occasionally have their nails done

Igmum · 04/05/2023 20:29

None and I don't think I know anyone who does

IncyWincyGrownUp · 04/05/2023 20:29

I know only one person who has Botox, every 4 months for medical reasons (migraine).

Most people I know cleanse and moisturise. One or two have nails or lash type add ons. Most have a haircut now and again. None of them have all the stuff you list.

roarfeckingroarr · 04/05/2023 20:29

I get my nails done every other week but nothing else from your list. I do yoga 5 times per week and have a good skin care regime.

Oysterbabe · 04/05/2023 20:30

Most women do not do all of that stuff. It's completely unnecessary.

PiffleIsTakingThePiss · 04/05/2023 20:30

Pure goad. Hardly anybody does all that shit to themselves unless you're Katie Price or some other dreadful plastic person who has zero idea who they really are. YABVVVVVU.

anythinginapinch · 04/05/2023 20:30

I do absolutely none of that. Might shave my legs in the summer.

I do none of those things. I do however have a skincare routine, have my hair coloured, use masks on my hair and face weekly and wear a little make up every day because all those things make me feel good. If your routine makes you feel good then who cares what anyone else does.

Goodoccasionallypoor · 04/05/2023 20:30

You're averaging 7-8 beauty appointments a month, not including hair cuts.

Do you seriously think most women are doing that?

Tarantullah · 04/05/2023 20:30

None of my friends have botox and fillers, some of the younger women and their friends who I work with do and it isn't seen as unusual. I think it depends on area a bit in honesty. I used to get my nails done but just do my own now, I get my brows waxed and a facial every 6 weeks or so though- don't need a tan...

DisplayPurposesOnly · 04/05/2023 20:30

I know one woman who does all of those things and many women who do some of them (mainly nails and eyebrows, some fake tan, occasional facial).

I don't do any of those things but I do do other things.

Never had nails done
Had eyebrows done once when I had black hair and had to have dark eyebrows or I looked weird - about the late 80s
Never had a facial
Haven't faked a tan since those same late 80s.
Never had and never will have botox
Never had lip fillers

PinkiOcelot · 04/05/2023 20:30

I care about my appearance but don’t do any of that. I get my hair cut regularly, paint my nails, my daughter does my eyebrows and I moisturise every day and wear makeup.
Wouldn’t have Botox or lip fillers.
