To think most women do all of the self care beauty routines I do.

Had this conversation with a friend today that seems to think I'm high maintenance. I get my nails done every month and eyebrows and a facial. I also fake tan once a week. Botox every 6 months and get my lips slightly fillled twice a year ( I have naturally thin lips)

I was under the impression most women do these things if you care about your appearance. AIBU to think this ?

So funny - I think I'm being fancy when I use a serum before my moisturiser 😂

UndertheCedartree · 04/05/2023 20:43

I wouldn't imagine most people could afford it!

If I could I would love a manicure and a facial monthly. Not sure my eyebrows would need doing that regularly. I'm not into the other things.

I do put on gradual tan lotion, though.

The thing I really wish I could afford would be a regular hair cut and even a colour too! I'm going to ask for money towards it for my birthday which I also did last year and I loved it!

YouJustDoYou · 04/05/2023 20:43

Jesus Christ, no. I know no one, literally no one, who does all that.

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 04/05/2023 20:43

Nails yes, everything else no.
It's not my esthetic.
No tanning.
I wear sunscreen everyday, 45 and no wrinkles.
Lip filler never.
Hair, every 6 months.

I like a very natural look.
I feel prettiest that way.

listsandbudgets · 04/05/2023 20:44

Wow you sound extremely high maintenance. Must all cost a fortune.

I clean my face and moisturise, almost never use makeup and don't piss about wiht my eyelashes - guess I'm a bit low grade really.

I could afford your regime but have neither the time or inclination to bother

Embelline · 04/05/2023 20:44

I have had botox recently, occasionally get my nails done (but often do it quickly at home instead to save £), never had fillers and don't intend to, never had my eyebrows done, get a facial as a treat usually as a birthday present or something! I thought you were going to post about your skincare routine!

JamSandle · 04/05/2023 20:44

I don't do any of it!

phoenixrosehere · 04/05/2023 20:44

I care about my appearance and don’t do any those things.

I do my skincare routine that takes 5 minutes including sunscreen almost daily, eat well most days and exercise. The most high maintenance thing I do is have a hair appt about every 2.5-3 months because I have fine hair but a lot of it, with different textures and it is a lot of work for me due to having hypermobility in my fingers where my joints lock if I do too much repetitive movement.

Fleur405 · 04/05/2023 20:40

I think there is somewhere in between not caring about your appearance and regularly getting stuff injected into your face…

Getting stuff injected in your face is much less effort than other beauty treatments. 20 mins and done every few months. The fake tan , nails, lashes on is much more faff. Facials are very temporary effect

Thriwit · 04/05/2023 20:44

YABU. I don’t personally know anyone who does these things.
I care about my appearance, but to me that means a good skincare routine, exercise regime, tidy hair, and very light makeup.
I suppose it’s about the image you want to project.

NannyGythaOgg · 04/05/2023 20:44

craftybeee · 04/05/2023 20:44

Are you actually the friend who thinks their friend is high maintenance & this is a reverse?

Arewehumanorarewecupboards · 04/05/2023 20:44

I don’t need any of that. I’m gorgeous as I am.

Joking aside, I don’t do any of that but I do self care and pampering in other ways that I enjoy and that make me feel good.

Life would be dull if we all enjoyed the same things.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 04/05/2023 20:44

I don't like to get anyone involved in my self care apart from my hair. I don't know anyone else who does what you do OP either.

BlackPhillipsCheese · 04/05/2023 20:45

Prettybutdumb · 04/05/2023 20:38

There are 2 mums at school who do the lips and cheeks stuff. It’s very obvious and such a bad look I can’t even make eye contact with them.

It looks so horrible doesn't it. And they always say how natural it looks. It doesn't, it looks common and fake.

MaryKateDanaher · 04/05/2023 20:45

Haha, "if you care about your appearance". Nice dig there OP.

hulahooper2 · 04/05/2023 20:45

I get my nails done every 3/4 weeks , eyebrows bi monthly and lips filled once a year , no facials , fake tan or Botox

NeonBoomerang · 04/05/2023 20:45

I don't do any of those things. I had my nails done for my wedding. We aren't even allowed nail varnish at work.

WandaWonder · 04/05/2023 20:45

Huh? No chance

AlanJohnsonsBeemer · 04/05/2023 20:46

I’m v low maintenance/scruffy but coming round to the idea of Botox, it is like a secret nobody told me, now I realise why my friends all look so young and fresh, most of them have been at it for a few years but not mentioned it.

no to the rest, except fake tan drops on my face when I remember and my legs in the summer when I need to get them out.

Optionshighlights · 04/05/2023 20:46

I don’t do any of those things. I exercise a lot and do use good quality products…face wash, eye cream, face cream and cc cream for daytime. That’s about where my beauty routine ends though.

ShowOfHands · 04/05/2023 20:46

Nope. Never even plucked a hair.

I do care though. About my body and its health. I feed it well, nourish it, exercise, take care of my joints and my mental health and wellbeing.

I don't colour myself in or inject things into my face or stick plastic on my fingernails.

Exaspa · 04/05/2023 20:46

Each to their own, but if I had that amount of spare cash sloshing about every month I'd rather put it towards a nice holiday - which would help my inner well being far more.

I care about looking presentable and wearing clothes and colours that suit me, as well as having a practical haircut that suits my face shape, along with eating sensibly and building up my exercise regime.

I might get a couple of those treatments before a holiday or a wedding but not as a matter of course and not the whole set. The same goes for my family and friends, even the very naturally beautiful younger ones.

If you only really work or mix with people who think all of that is really important and look like you, you might think "most women" do that every month but it's not really the norm.

ElmTree22 · 04/05/2023 20:47

My self care consists of a minimal skin care routine to keep cystic acne at bay. And I do get my nails done but only because I'm on maternity leave and my job doesn't allow nails so I'm making the most of this. And that is it.
IMO the majority of people are not as high maintenance as this. But if that's what makes you happy then fair enough, sounds like a lot of effort though!

MumToBeOf2 · 04/05/2023 20:47

You're going to get a lot of jealous replies.
I get my nails, brows, and hair done once a month.
