To think most women do all of the self care beauty routines I do.

Had this conversation with a friend today that seems to think I'm high maintenance. I get my nails done every month and eyebrows and a facial. I also fake tan once a week. Botox every 6 months and get my lips slightly fillled twice a year ( I have naturally thin lips)

I was under the impression most women do these things if you care about your appearance. AIBU to think this ?

Nope.
I dye my own eyebrows and get a haircut every 2 months but that's it from your list.
You do you though and fuck what anyone else thinks about it.

Nevermind31 · 04/05/2023 20:33

😂
i mean, sure, there are a lot of fake tanned, duck lipped women around… but even more that don’t look like that.

Whatevergetsyouthroughthenight · 04/05/2023 20:33

Nope, none of that. Neither do my friends.

AnnaTortoiseshell · 04/05/2023 20:33

It’s a certain aesthetic, I guess. I know people (through work) who do a lot of that kind of stuff. It’s not how I’d want to look but then I suppose that they wouldn’t want to look like me either. I do care about how I look, though.

BlackPhillipsCheese · 04/05/2023 20:33

I cleanse tone and moisturise.

I've had a facial twice in 39 years.

Never been waxed or botoxed. If anything the older I get the less arsed I am. I've binned bras and hair dye. I'm letting my greys come in.

I'm much happier and more secure aka don't care what people think. It's fab and saves so much time.

RiverSwimmingBliss · 04/05/2023 20:33

You must move in a very exclusive group of women 🤷‍♀️. Never had any of it and still attractive without it.

YewandOak · 04/05/2023 20:33

I don't do any of those things.

I care about my appearance,my skin is cleansed and moisturised twice a day.
I can't have(and don't want) long or false nails- I work in Food and Beverage.
I don't want Botox,I'm quite happy with my natural look.
If I want a bit of a tan,I get outside and do it naturally, can't be doing with the hassle.

Bargellobitch · 04/05/2023 20:34

I'd day it's not low maintenance. But I would say it's definitely not high maintenance.

CornedBeef451 · 04/05/2023 20:35

I don't do any of those and don't know anyone that does!

Ariela · 04/05/2023 20:35

I don't do any of those, and nor does anyone I know. But then us horsey types tend not to mingle with smart nail polish types.

I was reflecting today that I actually don't spend anything much on that kind of thing as I cut my own hair, don't dye it, never do my nails, never have any beauty treatment etc.

AspiringMermaid · 04/05/2023 20:35

I have a friend who is a makeup artist and wouldn't find that routine high maintenance....
Personally I have eyelash extensions every 3 weeks, under eye filler once a year, eyebrows waxed every 4-6 months, hair cut every 6 months. I wish I had more money to spend on massages and facials!
I don't think your routine is too much, everyone is different

Willowtre1 · 04/05/2023 20:35

I don't pay for any treatments. I cut my own hair, pluck my eyebrows, I do fake tan and use tanning drops, I look after my skin, always take off make up and wear factor 50 moisturizer. I do my nails when I fancy it or otherwise keep them short and bare. I care a lot about my appearance but don't enjoy going to the hairdresser and feel it's a waste of money for me. Likewise treatments and regular nails, not worth it. I don't think I need any of the cosmetic stuff and even if I objectively did, I wouldn't as it just doesn't interest me yet.

It’s got nothing to do with caring about your appearance. It’s about being insecure in your appearance. I don’t do any of those things and never will. I also hope my daughter will never feel the need to do any of those things.

Out of interest, how much does all of this cost you per year?

Cherrysherbet · 04/05/2023 20:36

No, not me!

I’ve got too many other things to spend my money on. It wouldn’t occur to me to spend that much time on my appearance tbh.

Testina · 04/05/2023 20:36

You think most women have Botox every 6 months?! 🤣
don’t be silly!

Beautybox3 · 04/05/2023 20:36

I actually don’t think you are unreasonable at all

I have my nails done every 3 weeks and hair every 9 weeks with my appointments booked in until Christmas
I fake tan for events, will mostly wear fake eyelashes when I go out and love beauty products

I think people sometimes take issue with Botox and filler but it’s your face your choice, as long as you are going somewhere reputable it’s fine

I have friends who are considered ‘low maintenance’ and get Botox every 12 weeks due to forehead wrinkles

LindorDoubleChoc · 04/05/2023 20:36

Oh don't be so utterly ridiculous. Craving attention tonight are you?

BarryShitpea · 04/05/2023 20:36

None of that and don't know anyone who does either. I actually don't think I know anyone who's ever used fake tan or Botox or fillers.

WilkinsonM · 04/05/2023 20:36

YABU
face fillers aren't 'self care' yuk
most women don't have the time money or energy to waste on all that shit even if they wanted to (and most don't!)

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 04/05/2023 20:37

It seems to be common among women in their 20s. I can’t help thinking that they’ve been sucked into investing a lot of time and money to achieve a particular look, but that’s up to them. Certainly not the norm for the people I mix with.

MidlifeWhatNow · 04/05/2023 20:37

ColdHandsHotHead · 04/05/2023 20:33

No, and the judgement in your phrase 'if they care about their appearance' is offensive.

This.

You care about a certain type of appearance, OP. No issue with that, but plenty of women who also care about how they look to the outside world wouldn't touch injectables etc with a bargepole.

Atnilpoe · 04/05/2023 20:37

I do none of those things.

Wilkolampshade · 04/05/2023 20:37

Not me. None of it. And I care how I look.( I look fine.)

Have two DD's, 21 year old, student, London, doesn't do any of them but wears a bit of make up sometimes, haircut probs once a year? DD2, 23 year old, corporate workplace central London, wears a little make up bit never does nails, haircut once a year? A little fake tan self applied from a bottle. She'd probably have more haircuts but never botox, lips etc.... Thing is she spends half her take home on rent so 🤷‍♀️.

Justhereforaibu1 · 04/05/2023 20:37

Nope
I get my eyebrows waxed about once a year when the shape has gone wonky from doing it myself. Fake tan before a wedding. That's it from your list.

NotTerfNorCis · 04/05/2023 20:37

Jeez I don't.
