Had this conversation with a friend today that seems to think I'm high maintenance. I get my nails done every month and eyebrows and a facial. I also fake tan once a week. Botox every 6 months and get my lips slightly fillled twice a year ( I have naturally thin lips)

I was under the impression most women do these things if you care about your appearance. AIBU to think this ?

I think you idea of 'appearance' is lead by the current celebrity idea of the perfect look. Don't for get that fashion is only trends thrust on you by the media.
It won't be long until the dark shaped eyebrows, dark lashes, lip filler and botox look will draw gasps of amazement the people actually did that to themselves in the name of fashion just like we think the Victorian idea of a perfect figure of a slim waist held in by whalebone corset is equally insane.
Fashion changes, permanent body implants and surgery unfortunately aren't as easy to move on from.
Personally I prefer a more natural look rather than the current media lead looks.
I'll stick to a regime a little less rigorous than yours.

Unless you know the person before have you can’t always tell. You can tell when it’s obvious. I keep reposting the same pic’s because this is a very long thread. But they serve a purpose to prove you can’t always tell

I don't think they do prove that. I think the view from the side is usually the give away.

ZenNudist · 05/05/2023 08:42

I know some women not really in my circle and not in the professional world who do their nails. Acrylics seem to be a lower class thing but also for well off people with time and money.

I assume you are in the well off bracket considering all the other things you do.

I'd find the time commitment draining. I work 4 days though and wouldn't prioritise those regimes.

I colour my hair every 9 weeks and epilate legs irregularly so Im not too hairy to go swimming. That's it for self care for me.

I think people ruin their looks with silly eyebrows and fillers. I'm sorry but I think fake tan looks awful.

Still each to their own. I'm sure you'd think I look awful too!

IbbleDibbleDibble · 05/05/2023 08:44

Come on guys’ it’s clearly a wind up!!! @summerfinn maintains she does this as she isn’t good looking and it helps her feel normal but goes on to say she looks like a dark haired version of a woman who won a ‘most beautiful woman in the WORLD’ 😂😂😂😂

however if is true and you look like Rosanna then I’m afraid your cosmetic work is not as subtle as you think. She is a girl who looks like and has had too much done and her style is stuck back in 1990

im in Ireland too and the same age as you. Myself and my group of friends don’t do what you do. I get my eyebrows done every 2 months as I’m fair and they don’t show up otherwise. Some of my friends get their nails done sometimes.

for us caring about our appearance is trying to get fitter and eat healthier not injecting poison into our faces to pretend we are younger than we are and sticking on fake nails and fake tan.

InSpainTheRain · 05/05/2023 08:44

I dont do any of those things. I get my hair cut well every 8 weeks, I do my eyebrow shape myself each month. Other than that I try to exercise and sleep well and eat healthily.

IbbleDibbleDibble · 05/05/2023 08:46

Rosanna’s ‘natural and subtle’ look for those who don’t know who she is!

Ihaveshitfriends · 05/05/2023 08:46

Never bothered with any of it as I’m really ugly and it would be like putting lipstick on a turnip.

literalviolence · 05/05/2023 08:40

I can't look that good either! Yes I agree re Sandra. Much less attractive me than normal aging but up to her. I just hope she made the choice to do that to herself free from any outside pressure. Hollywood is a very misogynistic place so you can never be sure.

Sadly Sandra bullock has gone way way down the route of too much work imo. Meg Ryan also. Sorry yo disappoint but Michelle Yeoh had surgery earlier in her career and pictures suggest she uses light Botox as her face fluctuates between being slightly smoother and slightly less. But it’s all done beautifully so she looks natural just beautifully aging.

I would not consider this normal, natural or healthy, women with this much muck on dont look good, they just look artificial. and what a shocking amount of time and money to waste.

It is very concerning that you say your children dont copy you becasue they are boys- cant you see how sexist this is, and what you are bringing your boys up to expect from a woman? Someone totally superficial, who's only self confidence comes from covering up their normal face and skin.

I am being quite mild, as my feelings for the negative impact you are having on women's equality, respect for women, and the environment actually run quite a lot deeper than I would be allowed to say on here.

Sorry, but you asked

I don't think they do prove that. I think the view from the side is usually the give away.

They don’t have side shots so I can’t prove otherwise but I find it incredible that you think they look filled

Rosanna’s ‘natural and subtle’ look for those who don’t know who she is!

Am not trying to diss Rosanna. In her line of work, she may need to look like this.
I am in a line of work where everyone is very casual, and I would look foolish if I tried to look like this.

However, I am all on the S and B threads praising Tretinoin. It really is a miracle in a bottle. I do that and I don't do much else. I am also finding that as I get older ( I am 51) less is more for me. I can't seem to pull off heavy makeup any more.

Beezknees · 05/05/2023 08:52

Oxbridgetitans · 05/05/2023 08:00

Exactly!!! You can be a great mother whether you do these things (or more!) or none! How ridiculous!!! Im sure your husbands appreciate the effort rather than you just letting yourselves go. And women wonder why so many affairs happen. Look after yourselves inside and out ladies!

I don't care who gets filler or whatever but suggesting that men have affairs because women don't partake in beauty regimes is quite disgusting. This type of post insinuates that women are only worth something if they look good. Incredibly misogynistic, old fashioned and "pick me".

CremeEggQueen · 05/05/2023 08:54

Pffft, YABU.
If you do all that, that's your choice but YABU to assume everyone is the same as you.
I dont even wear make up, never mind do any of the other stuff . Never have, just not me.
If my hair looks brushed I feel I'm winning 😁

BansheeofInisherin · 05/05/2023 08:54

I am not keen on the posts criticising the OP's parenting. Leave that alone. Her boys likely don't notice because boys never notice anything!

Beezknees · 05/05/2023 08:54

Lip fillers are definitely always easy to spot. The lips don't lie flat after filler.

FrostyFifi · 05/05/2023 08:54

Do I have to look haggard and unkept and exhausted to be deemed a good mother?

Are you implying that botox and fillers are necessary to not look unkempt?

The competitive under grooming is just like the teedious competitive under eating

Define under grooming. If someone is clean and looks after their health, why should there be an arbitrary standard beyond that, particularly one that applies specifically to women?

CremeEggQueen · 05/05/2023 08:55

It's the turning up at the edges which gives it away. The part where lip.liner would be if you use it. You can see it more in the photo of just the lips of the ones you posted.

UseOfWeapons · 05/05/2023 08:57

I do none of these things. Only 2 women I know do any or all of these, but maybe I'm in a particularly shabby group?

SparklyBlackKitten · 05/05/2023 08:57

You must be bored. Or ....

SparklyBlackKitten · 05/05/2023 08:59

Bahaha i just read that you "consider yourself beautiful "

But only with fake nails. Fake brows fake skin color fake lips etcetera 🤣
Too funny

Dweetfidilove · 05/05/2023 08:59

DarrellRiversCriminalBehaviourOrder · 05/05/2023 06:58

Yes. Same with Botox. It only looks fake when it looks fake.

Do some people overdo it? Of course. Sometimes it's even deliberate...some people like the fake look.

But a good practitioner will avoid that unless you really really want it. Most Botox and fillers is like this. You wouldn't notice it because it's subtle. You wouldn't think she's got fake lips, you just wouldn't think she's got especially thin lips. You wouldn't think she's got a spoon for a forehead, you just wouldn't think she's very lined and tired looking. You most likely wouldn't think anything at all. Lower doses of Botox don't freeze you. They restrict you a bit but you can still knit your brow, just not quite as deeply. For a while. Until it wears off and full movement returns, but the lines still aren't there.

But I don't actually like to tell people this. I prefer it when people think they can always tell because it's so obvious. It means they have no idea what they're looking at and no idea what it usually looks like and those of us who do it properly (most of us) continue to get away with it.

I'm usually head in hand at some of the horrors I see, so this pic is actually 👌🏾.

I'll remember this whenever I see the other variations or anotherbthread saying no-onecan tell, because I'm guilty of rolling my eyes sometimes 🙂

You seem to think all lips are the same. Natural lips don’t lie flat either. What do you even mean?

Daffodilmorning · 05/05/2023 09:03

No, I don’t do any of those things. But then I don’t like the false tan and fake nails aesthetic.

If I did, then I’d probably do the things on your list (except Botox and lip fillers, the idea of injecting chemicals into my face makes me a bit queasy).

As long as you’re happy and aren’t doing it because you think you need to, it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks.

Beezknees · 05/05/2023 09:03

potatohead1 · 05/05/2023 09:00

There's always a bulge around the edges with filler, it's obvious when you see it side on. It can look nice, but it's always obvious. I don't get the whole trying to insist it looks "natural".
