To think most women do all of the self care beauty routines I do.

Had this conversation with a friend today that seems to think I'm high maintenance. I get my nails done every month and eyebrows and a facial. I also fake tan once a week. Botox every 6 months and get my lips slightly fillled twice a year ( I have naturally thin lips)

I was under the impression most women do these things if you care about your appearance. AIBU to think this ?

Against my better judgement I did read some of thread and wow, did it exceed my expectations 😂 so those of us who have aesthetic injections neglect our children, and don’t have any hobbies because our grossly deformed faces won’t allow it, or something like that 😂

WelshDaffodil · 05/05/2023 08:25

The only people I know who do all that are female candidates on The Apprentice

Ladykryptonite · 05/05/2023 08:26

Craftybee, allegedly women do this stuff for themselves, not men

givemecoffeenow · 05/05/2023 08:27

I don’t think that beauty routine is normal tbh however if you can afford it and it makes you happy then that’s what matters.

I have a skincare routine (all DIY) and treat myself to a face mask while relaxing in the bath when I feel like it.

I get my hair done every 6 weeks. And will do my own nails for special occasions or holidays. I also use some self tan in the summer.

And those who don't are dirty old hags with no self respect and cheating husbands

Qilin · 05/05/2023 08:28

I know one of my friends who does all that. Well not Botox (yet) but other types of treatments.

I know some who have nails done for special occasions/nights out, but not all the time. Again - know a few who have a fake tab for a special event.

I've never had my nails painted professionally or had a fake tan. Never had Botox or similar. A lot of woman I know don't.

It takes me all my time to remember to book a hair appointment let alone the rest! I'm rubbish at home routines as well - my face gets some moisturiser each morning but not much more. A touch of tinted moisturiser and a swipe of lip gloss before work.

Ultimately I'm lazy when it comes to maintenance 😂

Ladykryptonite · 05/05/2023 08:29

Maybe if my dh did that much work on himself I might start

literalviolence · 05/05/2023 08:29

No rrft but largely responding to the OP and this one. Those lip fillers are obvious from the side. Not subtle at all. I have a facial once or twice a year and hair cut every 3 months. I donr do any of the rest of it. I don't judge myself or other ls by appearance so it's all a bit lost on me.

MoreCloudsThanYouCanImagine · 05/05/2023 08:29

I read the 'my children come first, sadly' not as a dig, but as an acknowledgement that the list OP put up costs a lot of time and money, so priorities had to change.
From a personal point of view, my self care is more about health and attitude. I cleanse, tone and moisturise daily. A bit of light make up, more if special occasion. I don't have my nails done because it's so bad for the nails. I'll varnish them myself sometimes.

Personally, I don't find the over groomed look attractive at all, but each to their own.
But per the OP - among my female friends and colleagues ( a fair few) only very few go the whole hog like that.

Amazingly some of us aren’t obsessed with men. Did you know that Hush…. Even lesbians have been known to love makeup and procedures …shhhhhh

I haven’t read anyone who has said this but I have read post after post attacking those who have procedures.

It's a fairly low opinion of men isn't it!! Mine is with me for me not my looks. He doesn't cheat and doesn't fancy women who've done lots of stuff to themselves (fake tan, veneers, hair extensions). He fancies peole like Sandra Bullock from the 90s and there's no way I can look like her!!!!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 05/05/2023 08:34

Surely people can just do what the fuck they want to their own bodies?

BusterGonad · 05/05/2023 08:34

I don't do all of this. I'd rather use the money to buy make up and new clothes. I get my haircut about twice a year, I dye it myself every 6 weeks. I paint my own nails. Use fake tan on my legs in the summer. Shave my own legs and sort my own eyebrows out. I don't actually like the botoxed look, it looks aging. It weirdly pushes up the wrinkles and turns one big wrinkle into 5 tiny ones. Very strange indeed. I'm over the fake lip trend too. Far too many people go over board and just look very odd. Your face loses its symmetry and it no longer fits your features. I cannot stand long fake nails either. Mine grow so fast that I'm constantly clipping them. I love short squaval nails. I guess I'm probably classed as 'past it' as I'm not keen on theake up trends either. I just want to look like a better version of me, not a totally different version.

IHeartGeneHunt · 05/05/2023 08:34

I'll put fake tan on for special occasions, I do my own eyebrows, can't get my nails done because I work in care and we're not allowed. I did used to though, before working there.
No Botox because A) can't afford and B) don't like the way it looks.
I've got two friends who have had fillers and Botox, and their nails done regularly. But I know many more women who don't.

I like to look nice (for myself) and I put concealer and mascara on most days. That's it though.

Sandra Bullock from the 90s was very cute. Now not so much with all those fillers. I"ll aim for Michelle Yeoh in her 60s.

RampantIvy · 05/05/2023 08:37

@potatohead1 I also like to look well groomed. I just draw the line at fillers, botox and regular tanning.

I see the beauty in most people so I always assumed most women did a lot to maintain their appearance.

Most women don't, or don't feel the need to. It is perfectly possible to look well groomed, but not undertaking everything that you do.

It's the people rushing on to say how they never do anything ever, just as on food threads people rush on to say how a salad sustains them for a week. You can tell lots of people never get anything done which is their choice, but it's very obvious on a thread like this it's to try and prove they're better.

I agree.

Oh sorry. Someone had posted an Instagram post advertising a specific surgeon and the OP had responded to that. I thought I'd quoted it but obviously not. I mean, they were clearly surgically altered but if people want to do it anyway then go ahead. It's their choice. I'd just never want anyone to choose it based on the wrong assumption that people can't tell. You can always tell when someone has dyed their hair but many people do it anyway.

moose62 · 05/05/2023 08:37

I think the OP is entitled to do whatever she wishes as are the rest of us! If doing this regime makes her feel good, then she should carry on!

Tessisme · 05/05/2023 08:37

Fair enough that you get all that stuff done OP. It's up to you. But I think YABU to assume most other women do. I'm 20 years older than you and can honestly say, at 36, I didn't have any 'need' for Botox. Not that I think anyone needs it. But 36?

It if she thinks it's normal , that most people do it ( original question ) she is provably incorrect not least because you can look up how many Botox injections are given each year and there are not that many

Unless you know the person before have you can’t always tell. You can tell when it’s obvious. I keep reposting the same pic’s because this is a very long thread. But they serve a purpose to prove you can’t always tell

I can't look that good either! Yes I agree re Sandra. Much less attractive me than normal aging but up to her. I just hope she made the choice to do that to herself free from any outside pressure. Hollywood is a very misogynistic place so you can never be sure.
