To think if you don't like my dogs barking at you get the hell off my drive

I'll start this by saying I am tired and miserable so am in no mood to be reasonable today AT ALL.

I have many dogs. Large dogs. There are dog flaps so they can run in and out as they wish onto the property. I am rural and one of the purposes of the dogs is to alert me to people around, so I aren't bothered by them barking if someone comes to the gate.

The gateway to my drive is set back about 15ft so that I can park the car without having to open the gates and drive in. Its clearly my driveway and separate from the road.

There is this one cyclist who every single time after cycling up the hill stops and pulls into the drive and has a rest. Now he could stop on the other side of the road where there is a public track, or he could cycle for like another 30ft and stop at the entrance to the forest but no he chills in the drive. Every. Single. Time.

The dogs bark at him. He shouts at them to be quite. They obviously ignore him. I used to shout them back in but the last few weeks I haven't bothered because well I'm grumpy.

Today my mum has arrived to visit and the cyclist is yet again in the drive. He's had a bit of a go at her. She's come in mithering at me so I've gone out and told him very rudely that if he doesn't like them barking at him to stop standing on the fucking drive. It got into a bit of a heated discussion before I stormed off. He's going to report me apparently as they are intimidating and its illegal to have a camera and no signs and blah blah blah.

So whilst I might BU to have gone out and created more drama instead of ignoring him AIBU to think if you don't want to be barked at get the fuck off my land?

The baby GSD 😍

Cyclist is literally trespassing. I'd like to see him try reporting you.

SlipSlidinAway · 01/05/2023 11:25

Oh my - what absolutely gorgeous dogs you have op! I love German Shepherds - so intelligent and beautiful.

YABU. What about the postman or anyone else whose job it is to be on your drive?

The postman is unlikely to lean on her car while he has a drink, shout at her mother and threaten to report her for some imagined CCTV related offence.
Presumably the postman comes to the house regularly, hears the dogs barking as dogs do, delivers the post and goes on his way.

iloveeverykindofcat · 01/05/2023 11:26

That puppy looks just like a GSD we had when I was growing up. She was a fabulous dog.

Rhondaa · 01/05/2023 11:26

I can't see what his problem is, if the dogs are securely behind the gate and can't get out them so what.

As a pp said though what happens when the postman or workmen come to the house? Non stop uncontrolled barking is intimidating. Have you tried training them?

Wheresthebeach · 01/05/2023 11:26

What a dick.

I'd record him, and threaten him with Trespassing.

SmallFerret · 01/05/2023 11:27

Ocularpatdown · 01/05/2023 09:40

Cheeky fucker cyclist. I'd make sure all dogs where out there barking at him every time he stops at your drive. Hopefully he takes the hint.

& if you're feeling especially combative OP ...

To think if you don't like my dogs barking at you get the hell off my drive
ItsCalledAConversation · 01/05/2023 11:28

Some cyclists are entitled tears. The exercise makes them all pumped up and fuelled with testosterone and they become execrable. You were not in the wrong.

He could have been right about the cctv and needing a sign though.

Justlovedogs · 01/05/2023 11:29

YANBU
He's an idiot if he thinks he can report you to anyone and have them care.
You're dogs are GORGEOUS!

ItsCalledAConversation · 01/05/2023 11:29

*twats

SocialLite · 01/05/2023 11:29

He leans on your car on a regular basis, and was verbally abusive towards your mother on your own property – he needs reporting

Justlovedogs · 01/05/2023 11:29

Damn autocorrect. Your not You're. Grrr.

SmallFerret · 01/05/2023 11:29

LisaD1 · 01/05/2023 09:55

Can you park your car where he stops for a few days and maybe he will get the hint? Cheeky fucker.

we have dogs who bark when people come to the door, I had someone trying to sell me some shit and asked me to shut them up so I could listen to him 😂

Shock

"Don't be silly, they are making far more sense than you are, why would I prefer to hear you over them?"

ChaosOnTheCoast · 01/05/2023 11:30

I detest dogs. And that photo is my idea of hell.

But this is him in the wrong entirely. He is on your property and cannot tell you how to behave. Why anyone would want to keep subjecting themselves to a situation they dislike is beyond me.

Out of interest, I do wonder what delivery drivers do in this scenario? Do they leave stuff at the gate?

SlipSlidinAway · 01/05/2023 11:25

Oh my - what absolutely gorgeous dogs you have op! I love German Shepherds - so intelligent and beautiful.

I don't get the love for alsations. They aren't cute looking, they are often boisterous (possibly an owner problem) and they tend to bark a lot. A neighbour has one, not an immediate neighbour either but across a field out the back and the constant woo woo WOO is really annoying. I can't imagine how bad it must sound when actually in the same house and with more than one.

That said, the cyclist does sound annoying too.

Gwenhwyfar · 01/05/2023 11:19

YABU. What about the postman or anyone else whose job it is to be on your drive?

No doubt they get barked at too. But I expect they're reasonable people who understand that in rural locations it's not unreasonable to have dogs that alert owners to someone's presence. They probably also don't hang around on the drive having a drink, taking the air and waiting to pick a fight.

Our large dogs charge at our gate when someone comes (it's too high for them to get over). Any delivery man with half a brain cell would know not to try and put anything over the gate, but wait a few seconds until I get there. Our post box is outside the gate - nevertheless the postman often hangs around a bit to give the dogs a biscuit.

Honestly, don’t you know? He’s a male cyclist. He owns the road!

YANBU.

Hope your mom is ok

Plenty of female cyclists around here that are the same - it’s not a gender-specific issue!

SmallFerret · 01/05/2023 11:35

ButterCrackers · 01/05/2023 10:43

Call the police and report his agression to your mum. Tell the police that he knowingly trespasses and shouts at your mum and shouts because your dogs bark at him standing on your property. See what the police can do about his threatening antisocial behaviour.

Cops would need to know who he was though. AFAIK he is just some random.
Hence I'd encourage him in his batshit wish to report me, in OP's position 😂

Oh OP. Don't you know, he's a Man In Lycra. And much like other MILs, he's always right Grin

But is he a MAMIL (Middle aged Man In Lycra ) ? Grin

thebestbirtheraccordingtoDD · 01/05/2023 11:35

Firstly. Awwwww your dogs are bloody gorgeous
The cyclist is a nob

SkiingIsHeaven · 01/05/2023 11:35

Can you wash your drive with a powerful hosepipe next time he comes?

SlipSlidinAway · 01/05/2023 11:37

@Janiie - well not everyone wants a dog that looks 'cute'. Some people want a dog that looks majestic/beautiful, is super intelligent/super loyal and full of character.

I don't have one at the moment - other than a cross - but those I have had have been wonderful dogs. Always found them quite placid - not boisterous unless playing.

Willmafrockfit · 01/05/2023 11:38

lovely dogs op

I don't think police would give a rat's ass about this type of argument. No threats, no violence. Imagine if everyone reported every argument they had to the police.

Comedycook · 01/05/2023 11:06

This is difficult.

Cyclists and dog owners? Can't decide which I dislike the most....

Let me make it easier for you.

OP & her dogs were all safely contained within her own property.
The cyclist, however, was trespassing on that property, then complaining that OP's dogs disliked his presence.

Still finding it difficult? Then sorry, I can't help you! 😂
