To think if you don't like my dogs barking at you get the hell off my drive

I'll start this by saying I am tired and miserable so am in no mood to be reasonable today AT ALL.

I have many dogs. Large dogs. There are dog flaps so they can run in and out as they wish onto the property. I am rural and one of the purposes of the dogs is to alert me to people around, so I aren't bothered by them barking if someone comes to the gate.

The gateway to my drive is set back about 15ft so that I can park the car without having to open the gates and drive in. Its clearly my driveway and separate from the road.

There is this one cyclist who every single time after cycling up the hill stops and pulls into the drive and has a rest. Now he could stop on the other side of the road where there is a public track, or he could cycle for like another 30ft and stop at the entrance to the forest but no he chills in the drive. Every. Single. Time.

The dogs bark at him. He shouts at them to be quite. They obviously ignore him. I used to shout them back in but the last few weeks I haven't bothered because well I'm grumpy.

Today my mum has arrived to visit and the cyclist is yet again in the drive. He's had a bit of a go at her. She's come in mithering at me so I've gone out and told him very rudely that if he doesn't like them barking at him to stop standing on the fucking drive. It got into a bit of a heated discussion before I stormed off. He's going to report me apparently as they are intimidating and its illegal to have a camera and no signs and blah blah blah.

So whilst I might BU to have gone out and created more drama instead of ignoring him AIBU to think if you don't want to be barked at get the fuck off my land?

No he's actually on the drive. Not even on the edge but like halfway in the unfenced zone. There is zero way he thinks its public. He does it even if the car is there. He just perchs himself against the car for his drink stop.

Tbh I don't (or didn't) particularly mind him. Its a bit annoying but its a bugger of a hill and whilst I don't understand why he can't cycle a bit further I just eyeroll.

Mum was quite shaken up but it doesn't take much. She got out the car and he started swearing at her and telling her she was breaking the law as dogs can't be intimidating and she better not open the gate because if they touch him he'll sue and just general idiocy. Then she came in all flustered and started on me. So I stomped out and here we are. Shrug.

So the bloke decided to intimidate your DM, while standing on your property?

InceyWinceySpidy · 01/05/2023 10:20

So when you say, "this is private property, leave." He responds with....?

caringcarer · 01/05/2023 10:24

My dogs bark if someone walks past our drive way. It's what dogs do. The cyclist should not be on your drive.

FlamingoQueen · 01/05/2023 10:25

What a knobhead! I don’t know what to suggest, because most of my ideas are probably illegal!!
Could you get a sign made - this is private property, if you are so much of an arse to stand on my drive, my dogs will bark at you. Any problems, just get off my property.

Carla224 · 01/05/2023 10:26

He's trespassing. Get a sign that says private land/no trespassing - put it on a stick and knock into some soil where the borders of your land start, i.e where he usually stops.

And what's he going on about cameras?? You don't need a sign to say you have CCTV - or did I misunderstand?

BMW6 · 01/05/2023 10:34

He's marking "his" territory, like dogs do when they piss against a wall.

He's trespassing but he knows it . I'd put a camera up just to protect yourself and car in case the twat gets nasty.

Buildingthefuture · 01/05/2023 10:35

He’s a Twat! I too have many dogs. If he’d have threatened me or my dm like that, I’d have opened the gate!!!!! He’d have been up that hill in no time with my lot after him 🤣🤣🤣🤣 (I wouldn’t obviously, but it would be amusing after he’s been so rude!)

Clymene · 01/05/2023 10:36

It's really not okay for him to have a go at your mum. That's threatening behaviour.

I'd report him. Obnoxious intimidating arsehole

I'd be tempted to scatter drawing pins around

Buildingthefuture · 01/05/2023 10:39

They are lovely op 🥰🥰 But why on Earth would anyone chose to trespass on land with GSDs in residence???? He not just a Twat, he’s also thick as mince!!!

Bemyclementine · 01/05/2023 10:40

The nose 😍

I was just thinking something similar. Just make sure you don’t drive over them.

😍 are they big softies really?

ButterCrackers · 01/05/2023 10:43

Call the police and report his agression to your mum. Tell the police that he knowingly trespasses and shouts at your mum and shouts because your dogs bark at him standing on your property. See what the police can do about his threatening antisocial behaviour.

Clymene · 01/05/2023 10:44

Oh my 😍 what beauties

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 01/05/2023 10:48

They are STUNNING! I'd be terrified if they were kicking off at me though GSD one of the very few breeds I have a bit of a fear of.

AmayaBuzzbee · 01/05/2023 10:50

Oh my goodness, what a gorgeous pack! 😍

MrFlibblesEyes · 01/05/2023 10:53

From your description it sounds to me like he doesn't realise he's on your property. If the gate is midway down the drive he probably thinks that that is the border to your property and the bit he is waiting on is publicly owned regardless of you parking there (people often park on the street outside their properties). Not that that is an excuse for any of his behaviour of course as he sounds like an entitled twat!!

LumpyandBumps · 01/05/2023 10:53

OMG
I would want to hop over the fence for a cuddle. They are gorgeous. My favourite breed.

Absolutely gorgeous! Also YANBU in the least, it's him who is.

Heartsnrainbows · 01/05/2023 10:55

You don't need a sign to record your OWN property. Tell him he is trespassing and to get bent get off your property.

CalpolDependant · 01/05/2023 10:58

I have no interest in dogs myself (would describe self as “not a dog person”) and therefore I say objectively:

Bad cyclist. Bad. YANBU

OrangeKettle · 01/05/2023 10:58

I admire people with “proper” dogs like that. They’re beautiful!

I have a doodle type dog. I say “basically, he’s a really expensive mongrel”. But for my first dog, he’ll do 😂

Tell the cyclist he’s a prick. They’re hated enough, without him adding to the problem!
