To NOT pick my DP up from the pub?

289 replies

Coraldeo · 29/04/2023 22:42

I’m 21 weeks pregnant. DP has been playing golf today, then went to a local pub (10 minutes walk), which I dropped him to. I’ve been swimming with the kids (his two teenagers, my older child), taken them for lunch, got my hair done, come back and put the older child to bed.

I’ve put a late night snack in the oven, got my pyjamas and a movie on. Suffering with heartburn which has been common this pregnancy and obviously really tired.

DP texts me asking for a lift. He’s gone to another pub, so he’s now a 30 minute walk away, which is 10 minutes in the car. I said, I’m tired, have heartburn, I’ve put food in the oven and I just want to relax. He’s now calling me selfish, lazy and saying he’d have picked me up.

AIBU?

Yet again on mn two people who don't seem to like each other at all, having a baby together.

That’s the impression I get as well. I have bloody neighbours that would do more for me (and I for them), than OP is inclined to do for her partner.

monsteramunch · 30/04/2023 11:06

If you read the quote history you will see I never once used the word “stranded” it was a response to me that used that word and yes they were being hyperbolic.

Yes you did. So yes, you were.

Look upthread ⬆️
I already apologised and corrected myself.
As for hyperbole, that seems to be the flavour of the day on here.

Never ceases to amaze how desperate some (wo)men are to keep women in servitude to men.

monsteramunch · 30/04/2023 11:08

@ChopperC110P

They’re bloody expensive. It’s a cost of living crisis.

I could get on board with this as a reason if he hadn't spent the day playing golf and drinking... doesn't sound anywhere vaguely close to broke to me!

arethereanyleftatall · 30/04/2023 11:10

Well it works both ways @ChopperC110P
Neither would two people who actually like each other talk to one another like the partner is talking the op.

Would I go and get my partner? Yes, if he wanted it so much. Would he expect it? No. Would he treat me like shit if I explained I really didn't feel like it and had heartburn? No.

Nanny0gg · 30/04/2023 11:10

ChopperC110P · 30/04/2023 10:56

Nah, he won’t ask because he knows you wouldn’t have twenty minutes to do him a small favour. He puts up with it. As I am sure you put up with him. Not the best dynamic for a partnership in my opinion.

How the fuck would you know?

I happen to have a very considerate husband. And when I'm not pregnant (or ill) I'm more than happy to give him lifts if he needs one.

Luckily your opinion matters not a jot to me as I would have thought mine didn't matter to you,

But you really are like a dog with a bone in your responses to PP

Desperate as in going to even higher levels of hyperbole by saying that a 10min lift = being in servitude.

I’m a woman. So ha ha at your close mindedness in thinking all women think just like you.

Of course you are mate. You're whatever you say you are. 😂

BadNomad · 30/04/2023 11:15

If this was the first time she has ever not gone to pick him up, you would think he would think maybe she is genuinely not feeling well. But no. He just turns nasty because it's inconveniencing him.

I would expect it, expecting your partner to like you enough to give you a lift is normal. If my partner said they didn’t want to because tired and Netflix, I’d be pissed off too. The treating the other like shit started with the OP saying no to a lift and it when downhill from there.

There it is “children he palms off” like children are just little shits no one would ever want to be around and life is all about getting someone else to be with the little shits. That’s child hating. Most parents want to be around their children most of the time and there nothing wrong with one parent having a day to do a hobby while the other is with the kids. That is what you do.

I'll pm you my step-daughter's contacts, & you can do your duty by letting her know what a child-hater she's had to endure for 40 years.

arethereanyleftatall · 30/04/2023 11:18

@ChopperC110P
I wouldn't. Because I like my partner enough to respect their wishes when they say they really don't want to tonight, when they normally would. And I still have options - walk, taxi.

ChopperC110P · 30/04/2023 11:18

5128gap · 30/04/2023 11:13

🤣 So you’re a TRA then? Because by your logic, Im female but not displaying appropriate woman responses, so then by your TRA logic, I must be a transman? And TMAM…aren’t they? Sorry I didn’t believe in your TRA religion. I’m a natural born woman.

usernother · 30/04/2023 11:20

A ten minute taxi ride isn't expensive. If he's been golfing all day then on the beer he can afford one. He just sounds tight.

So you only say child hating stuff online then? Is that your point? That you don’t think your step daughter was “palmed off” on you or that you were an “unpaid au pair” when you cared for her?

Do they take your kids swimming & give them lunch while you spend a day enjoying your hobby & going to pubs?

She’s tired and has heartburn, and has got in to her PJs after taking care of 3 kids all day. Yes, you wanting her to go and pick him up is wanting her to be in servitude.

What logic? What transman? What religion?

Are you just barking at the moon now Chopper?

They’re her kids too, watching & feeding your kids/step kids isn’t doing your partner a favour. That’s called parenting. It’s a duty of care. You know I was talking about the 10min lift.

Rightio Guv. No offense mate.

The ‘you are whatever you say you are’ is right from the TRA Bible. If you say you are a man or woman, then that is what you are. The poster saying that to me has to be a TRA if they think a man can simply say they are a woman.

monsteramunch · 30/04/2023 11:27

@ChopperC110P

You said other people have been hyperbolic but you keep referring to that post as 'child hating'. Chill out. You've made your thoughts on this very clear, I'm sure everyone has got the message.
