Last week I turned down a new job as the holiday entitlement was 20 days, save 4 for Christmas. I felt this was a but low as I currently get 25 and my previous role was 25 too.

AIBU is 20 average and I've just been lucky? It was the saving for Christmas too that really swung it for me

I think I get 25 too

CheersForThatEh · 27/04/2023 19:34

Thought 28 was the minimum to include bank hols like xmas?

Stopthatknocking · 27/04/2023 19:34

I get 20 plus bank holiday. That's the statutory minimum i think.
We also need to save about 4 for the week between Christmas and New year.

makemineadoublee · 27/04/2023 19:35

Are you including bank holidays?

Stixy · 27/04/2023 19:35

Sorry yes, it's 20 plus the 8 Bank holidays

32, have to save however many it is that year from Christmas day until 2nd January

CheersForThatEh · 27/04/2023 19:36

Stixy · 27/04/2023 19:35

Sorry yes, it's 20 plus the 8 Bank holidays

So they need you to save 4 days out of the 28 because they close for xmas week?

I would turn it down too x

LittleFreakJezebel · 27/04/2023 19:36

20 was the starting allowance at my company (increasing gradually to 25 after 5 years service) until this year when they have upped it to 21 increasing to 26, 4-5 days off have to be taken at Xmas. We are able to buy/carried forward up to 10 which is helpful once you have got through that first painful year! I'm on the full 26 days now (and increase this to around 33 each year) and do wonder how I ever managed on 20!

Pinkea · 27/04/2023 19:37

I get 30, plus I buy a week, and all the bank holidays. It still doesn’t feel like enough! 20+BH is far too low!

Laughingnome1 · 27/04/2023 19:37

33 days and then 8 days public holidays.

Stixy · 27/04/2023 19:38

Yes. This is an office based role mid level rather than entry level

I get 30 plus bank holidays plus half day Christmas Eve plus the three days between Christmas and New Year = 41.5 days. Can’t complain.

StringersBell · 27/04/2023 19:39

It is low and I would decline for that reason too. Unless there were other overwhelmingly attractive benefits of the role. In my experience though companies that offer the bare minimum annual leave tend to offer the bare minimum elsewhere and it’s indicative of how they value employees overall.

CharlotteDoyle · 27/04/2023 19:39

I currently get the statutory minimum 28 days (including bank holidays). But this is slightly less than what I had in previous jobs. I buy extra holidays out of my pay.

transformandriseup · 27/04/2023 19:40

Now I need to factor in school holidays I would turn down anything less than 25.

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 27/04/2023 19:43

I work in recruitment and the norm going back ten years or so was 20. Companies that also made you take sone of these days were considered stingy even back then.

More common now (though I appreciate this might change between industries) in corporate jobs at least is 25 plus BHs and as someone else says - most have the option of buying an extra 5 days.

TheGoogleMum · 27/04/2023 19:45

I work in NHS and have been there over 10 years so I get 33+ 8bank hols (but pro rata as I'm not full time)

confusedlots · 27/04/2023 19:46

Yes I feel that's not a lot. I get 27 days annual leave with 10 bank holidays on top of that. And I'm due to get another 2 days annual leave from next year. if I stayed in the job for 10 years I'd go up to 33 days annual leave with an extra 10 bank holidays.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 27/04/2023 19:46

I get 34

OurChristmasMiracle · 27/04/2023 19:48

32 days plus bank holidays but that’s because I started on 26, have now got an extra 6 for length of service.

Malloryhitops · 27/04/2023 19:48

25 plus all BHs. We also have an option to buy weeks and spread the cost over the year.

Username24680 · 27/04/2023 19:48

I work 3 days per week.

I get 17 days in total. Retail management so we’re open bank holidays etc.
We’re only closed Christmas Day and New Year’s Day - if they fall on my contracted days that year then I need to take them as holidays too.

Weedoormatnomore · 27/04/2023 19:53

Used to be 20 days plus BH. New job is 25 days plus BH. Also they close 3 days over Christmas that is additional leave !

TheMoops · 27/04/2023 19:57

That is low.
My first ever job was 22 but we had to use 2 at Christmas.

I'm living the dream now though with 37 plus BH, plus Christmas. Whenever I consider leaving this is one of the things stopping me!
