Last week I turned down a new job as the holiday entitlement was 20 days, save 4 for Christmas. I felt this was a but low as I currently get 25 and my previous role was 25 too.

AIBU is 20 average and I've just been lucky? It was the saving for Christmas too that really swung it for me

25 + 1 for each year's service up to 30, plus bank holidays and one additional for monarch's birthday. I think the lowest I've ever had was 24.

MiniDinosaur · 27/04/2023 20:11

28 + the days between Christmas and NY + 8 bank holidays

ToWonderWhyIBother · 27/04/2023 20:11

I get 20 days,8 bank hols and we close during xmas which we get paid for but its given to us as a gift.

Coffeecoffeeinmytummy · 27/04/2023 20:13

I get 26 days anytime plus 8 compulsory closure days (5 at Xmas 3 at Easter) plus the 8 bank hols. So 42 total. I basically get two weeks at Xmas one at Easter and 5 more on top. One of the (only) perks of my job. No way is 20 plus bank hols enough especially as you only have free choice over 16 days.

Purplecatshopaholic · 27/04/2023 20:14

Yes that’s low. I get 30, plus BHs plus close down over festive period. Wouldn’t take a job with less to be honest as it’s a real benefit.

illiad · 27/04/2023 20:16

I get 26 days with bank hols on top (and we can buy up to another 10 days).

Summerscoming23 · 27/04/2023 20:16

Started 27 + bank hols now on 33 + 10 bank hols,11 this year

Onthegrid · 27/04/2023 20:18

My employer is stingy at only 20 plus the bank hols and a 3 or 4 day shutdown at Christmas. I negotiated 25 and usually work at Christmas as it is easy and just cover from home not a full days work. There are others on the same but the management don’t like it, even though they have around 40 days a year themselves.
But then they turned down all requests for CoL pay rises too and offer no benefits or perks. I only stay because it suits me and I am planning to retire within 2 years. I am amazed that they can recruit and they are surprised that they don’t retain staff.
OP - For anything except entry level or zero hours contract I wouldn’t accept the bare minimum as to me it is a reflection on a lack of employee care.

AlltheFs · 27/04/2023 20:19

Yes that is low. Anywhere that thinks that little of staff is to be avoided.

I love my sector - I’m on the equivalent of 46 days inc bank hols FTE (pro rata as I’m 4 days). It’s brilliant.

Truestorypeeps · 27/04/2023 20:20

I get 25 plus bank holidays. I used to get 1.5 days every four weeks on top (built up Flexi), but since Covid I'm only in the office 2 days a week rather than 5 and can't be arsed working up more time!!

LindorDoubleChoc · 27/04/2023 20:21

YABU

IceCreamNuts · 27/04/2023 20:22

Mine is 27 (initially 25 which increases after a a couple of years in the firm) plus the bank holidays and no requirement to use it on any office closures etc and we can buy up to 5 days for a maximum of 30. We're also able to carry a few days over into the next holiday year but have to get department head approval if it's more than 5.

greencheetah · 27/04/2023 20:23

I would hate having so little leave and definitely wouldn’t want to work there.

I get 35 days plus BH (legal sector)

PinkiOcelot · 27/04/2023 20:23

33 plus bank holidays (10 this year).

TillyTollyTully · 27/04/2023 20:24

I'm jealous of some of the annual leave amounts on here!

I get 28 days plus Bank Hols. I would consider jobs with 25 plus Bank Hols (if salary/terms made up for it) but not lower.

HauntedPencil · 27/04/2023 20:24

That's low are bare minimum. I get 30
Plus bank hols and it's definitely a factor in my not moving jobs. I couldn't manage with that and having some time off with kids for school holidays

Nordicrain · 27/04/2023 20:24

I get 25.

DH used to have a job 20 and a week clsoed at christmas which left him for 15 for the year. It was really inconvenient and we really felt that missing week.

cadburyegg · 27/04/2023 20:25

I get 41 days including bank holidays (42 this year) and have to hold some back for the Christmas week.

TheSaturdayAfternoonnessOfIt · 27/04/2023 20:25

30 plus bank hols. Worked there ages so get max allowance although I am not senior.

Marmite27 · 27/04/2023 20:25

27+ 8 bank holidays, and I always buy a further 5. So I have 40 days.

HauntedPencil · 27/04/2023 20:25

Aside from that it would make me concerned how they treat staff generally if they are stingy with holidays.

Curtains70 · 27/04/2023 20:26

I get 31 plus bank holidays

whatthebejesus · 27/04/2023 20:29

20 days + bank hols is statutory minimum. I'd imagine that everything else they give is the minimum they have to too so I don't blame you for turning it down. I get 25+bh which I think is pretty standard now. Public sector and nhs usually more generous.

JoDolce · 27/04/2023 20:31

I could manage on 20 days plus bh but I have no school holidays to factor in. Unless they have lots of other redeeming benefits the saving of 4 days for Xmas would put me off. I started my current job during covid so had to take what i could get. We were getting 20 days plus bh & had to save 3 for Xmas. I was just about to start looking for another job when they announced an extra 5 days every year, so I'm staying 🙂

Dibbydoos · 27/04/2023 20:33

Could you buy any extra leave? I used to do that when I was employed. I typically had 30days leave plus bank hols which was good.

Now I'm self employed I take leave when I like knowing full well my company doesn't earn any money when I don't work.

This year I'll probably take 6 weeks off plus bank hols. It's an odd year this year as my neice is getting married in Phuket, so we're away for c3 weeks for that. Last year I took 4 weeks off (23 days plus bank hols).
