It's not what I want kids to be subjected to.

You seem to have a bit of a fetish.

Maybe seek support or treatment, we don’t want to read about your kinks in here x

msisfine · 27/04/2023 17:39

@gaspodethewonderdog Obviously my opinion that watching a professional performer read a story would be more entertaining than watching an elderly volunteer do it means I hate women AND old people. You've really got me there.

Most gangsters are very nice people when not dealing with their enemies. I went to school with a genuine Mafia princess. Her father was charming when I attended big parties at their posh house.
G rated drag story hours are a nice way to introduced diversity. Panto type costumes and jokes stay suitable for all audiences. Too often, drag performers tell adult jokes and wear costumes too risqué for a children’s event.

Hilarious. I mean, you can't actually be praising gangsters, who enslave and murder for profit, while deriding drag entertainers in comparison. If you're remotely serious (and not just on some weird flex) that's just twisted.

CarrotCake01 · 27/04/2023 17:42

Generally speaking, it seems harmless enough. Unnecessary but whatever. If people want to read to children, that seems nice.

The problem is a lot of drag acts do particularly focus in on over-sexualised outfits and content. It definitely gives the impression that theres an agenda being pushed onto young, impressionable children. Which isnt appropriate at all.

Just look at that Cabababarave! That was a drag show aimed at mums and babies. Literally had men in their underwear dancing for very young children... you've got to ask yourself... who is this really for...?!
Because the 5 year olds didn't ask for men with make up and fake boobs to read them a story.

Can the NHS treat these issues without being accused of a hate crime?

Hate crimes are why schools and libraries are enabling this Queer theory remival of boundaries safeguarding breach.

ConsuelaHammock · 27/04/2023 17:44

It would never happen in the primary schools in my country . The parents and the churches would go nuts.

ConsuelaHammock · 27/04/2023 17:45

I’m assuming these storytellers have to be paid ? With what exactly ?

Give it time.

Some NGOs in some poor African countries are refusing aid unless this Foucault agenda is introduced.

Why is it impossible for these entertainers to go as themselves? Does the sparkles, wig and make up also come with the ability to change the voice of various characters?

Yeah, and why do clowns wear all that brightly colored make up and those funny wigs in the circus? Should just get Kev from the local garage to throw buckets of glitter instead.

Ahh the activists call it the glitter in the carpet (children's brains) that can never be removed.

I don't in any way see a problem with it. Would you take your kid to a pantomime? They're not doing the same drag show they would for adults, they're wearing a costume and reading a kid's book. What it is they're being 'subjected to' is a story.

That tells me that you haven't looked a single one of the numerous videos, which have been linked on this thread. Had you done, you would have seen the DQs grinding and twerking in the faces of children, doing lapdances on them and the like.

CountZacular · 27/04/2023 17:58

I’d like to seriously know why it would not be acceptable for a woman to wear the exact same outfits and over the top make up to read to children but it is for men. Inclusion for whom exactly? Does anyone have an answer to this?

Aside from my opinion on drag why is a man wearing a dress considering the epitome of diversity? There’s so many, many people out there that could read to children to inspire them. My son would love it if a train driver was invited in. I’d have loved hearing from a female scientist growing up. I’d love to see more invites giving to people with disabilities. If we’re going down the entertainment route why not local sports personalities?

Drag every time is so lazy and I’m not even sure who it’s really meant for because a drag queen isn’t doing anything to inspire the 5 year olds around here.

And I want to know why police background checks aren’t done.

There are no videos linked on this thread (unless they are in the deleted posts)

There is a link to the monkey costume case which was booked without knowledge of that costume and the performance was stopped, and also a long video discussing drag story time

PermanentTemporary · 27/04/2023 18:13

I don't really understand the diversity angle. Surely the point of Drag Queen Story Hour, if it has one, is that it's fun? Experienced performers and raconteurs with their own colourful costumes, providing a specially dramatic and exciting performance for children without additional cost to schools.

What exactly is the diversity benefit of DQSH?

Me neither. Is drag a protected characteristic now?
I’d rather the school had a range of different people come in to read, different ages, cultures, disabilities etc.

What's wrong with a Granny in a pair of trousers and a short hair cut reading to children instead?

This. If we want to teach diversity then lesbian, old gay man, person in a wheelchair. Why does diversity = adult entertainment/parody of women

But that video isn’t of a Drag Storytime event. It’s a drag performance in a pub that someone decided to take a kid to.

Hear hear! The outrage there’d be if a proper woman dressed like a drag Queen for children to read them books. But it’s ok because it’s a man doing it. The logic of some people is backwards on here.

SinnerBoy · 27/04/2023 18:19

And? What about the Cabababa Rave thing? And there have been others, in libraries etc, which have been linked to on threads on MN.

Flowertight · 27/04/2023 18:21

I live very very close to the Honor Oak pub where the drag acts for kids are. I personally have not been but several close friends of mine have. We are all liberal (woke/ leftist/ whatever) but they were shocked by the level of adult humour and said the kids were confused. They all said they wouldn’t go again. This was WAY before all the furore as the events have been going on ages so not opinions that were influenced.

I assume now the spotlight is on the drag performers at the pub they are ‘taming it down’. Certainly in the latest photos they are dressed very prim and proper. However, with a quick google you can see the very performer, doing his very act at that very pub in the recent past and he does indeed hitch his dress up, do the splits and sing ‘twerk with me’ whilst gyrating in a little girls direction.

Turning point are obviously cunts but it usually ends up being about 20 of them and hundreds of opposers blocking the street. And every month TP get headlines promoting their organisation and cause out of it. If we just ignored them they’d soon get bored.

I don’t think fighting for the right for drag performers to twerk in front of your kids is the right hill to die on.

Flowertight · 27/04/2023 18:26

no it’s not DQST but it IS the protested event at the Honor Oak which is a drag brunch on a Saturday lunch following a children’s story time. And if you ever visited round here you’d realise it’s the new nappy valley - the pub is packed with families on a weekend and dead in the evenings…..
