to be alarmed that more and more places are allowing dogs?

Just went to Wilko recently who had a sign up saying all dogs welcome. Went to a bistro and they allowed dogs too. Had lunch listening to small yappy dogs.

Since when did it become acceptable to allow dogs into shops and food places?

It’s ill-thought because once it’s allowed it can get out of hand very easily.

No one would mind one small dog sleeping under a table, but what about 5-10 dogs milling about/yapping/tripping up a waiter/getting sick on the floor?

Cheesyfootballs01 · 26/04/2023 12:17

God not another dog thread!

These questions have already been asked - it’s been acceptable for quite some time to let dogs in shops/cafe/restaurants etc….

Since several years.

I had someone have a massive go at me last week when I was out with my toddler . She dropped the last of her chocolate bar on the floor in the cafe and a dog hoovered it up - the owner went mad saying I should have been more aware of dd dropping it and how her dog will have to go to the vets and asking for my details !!!! It was about half a small bar I told her it’s the risk she takes going to an establishment serving food

DewinDwl · 26/04/2023 12:24

Dangerous, unhygienic animals with entitled owners. YANBU.

BlueAndGreen89 · 26/04/2023 12:25

I was very pleased that the lady who runs a local cafe made a man leave last week when he brought his dog in. But I was incredulous that he brought it in in the first place. I’ve definitely noticed an increase in people thinking they can wander in anywhere with their dogs where before it was understood what was appropriate and what wasn’t.

SecretVictoria · 26/04/2023 12:25

Up to those businesses 🤷‍♀️. I could say the same as @7Worfs last sentence about kids.

Bluevelvetsofa · 26/04/2023 12:25

Yes, we know the topic has been aired frequently, but it’s clearly bothering plenty of people and I agree that there’s been a huge increase in the number of places that welcome dogs.

I’m not a dog lover and I prefer venues where they aren’t allowed. That’s difficult to find these days and I’m sure there are plenty of people who welcome being able to take their dogs wherever they go. I was looking at the restrictions for dogs on the local beach yesterday. From the beginning of the month they aren’t allowed on the beach and must be on leads on the prom. I’d be very surprised if either of those rules have any effect.

The brass neck of this woman. A loose dog can find bad things to eat anywhere - parks, pavement, beach… it’s her responsibility to keep the dog safe.

You should’ve complained to staff - she was harassing you in front of your young child.

x2boys · 26/04/2023 12:27

Mumsnet really hates dogs🙄
don't go.to.places that allow dogs if it's a problem for you.

Dd was just walking past holding it and the last but fell from the wrapper it wasn’t even on purpose and the dog was so quick !!!

TrashyPanda · 26/04/2023 12:29

it’s all about choice

It’s up to the individual business to decide if they want to allow dogs

You can decide whether or not you want to go there

DriedFlowersLiveForever · 26/04/2023 12:29

We get it, lots of people don't like dogs on mn.
Real life is like a different world 🙄

TrashyPanda · 26/04/2023 12:30

And it’s nothing new

my T dad took our dog to his shop in the 70s

Runaway0 · 26/04/2023 12:31

It's getting out of hand. People are bringing in dogs not trained and who are nervous. A tiny dog had to be held by its owner it wasn't on a lead and kept escaping under other people's tables. This wasn't a country pub but mogwli curry place. The poor dog obviously wasn't coping with the noise. It's selfish dragging your dog along wherever you want to go.

BreviloquentBastard · 26/04/2023 12:31

I don't really get it to be honest. I have three dogs, I love dogs, they're great... but I don't want to take them shopping with me or to restaurants or pubs, if I'm going out they stay home. That's the benefit of dogs over children, you don't have to take them with you everywhere you go!

I feel like COVID and lockdown produced a lot of bad dog owners who never did separation work with their dogs so can't leave them alone for fear they'll destroy the house. My three can be happily left for hours if necessary, they just loaf on the sofa until we get back.

thedevilinablackdress · 26/04/2023 12:32

Was fairly surprised to see the Gaucho restaurant near my office advertising being dog friendly. It seems to pitch itself as a swanky glam place. Seemed wrong.

Georgie8 · 26/04/2023 12:34

Post-pandemic footfall in shopping centres etc. is down.
Research shows that allowing people to bring their dogs shopping etc. increases footfall, thereby increasing profits.
That is, I understand, the logic behind the exponential rise in the number of shops, cafes etc. allowing dogs. Any business is entitled to ban pet dogs and they would if, by allowing them, it dented their profits, so it obviously does increase footfall/profits.
Having said that, I’m not overly keen and don’t take my dog -neither of us would enjoy the experience!

Lots of people in real life don't like dogs too, or at least could do without them in cafes, restaurants or shops. Or all over us in the park. We just don't say it.

Elphame · 26/04/2023 12:36

I'm delighted.

Non dog lovers can always go to Wetherspoons. No dogs are allowed there even in the outside spaces.

YouAreNotBatman · 26/04/2023 12:37

Alarmed?

Must be miserable existence to be such a dementor!

GoodChat · 26/04/2023 12:38

Alarmed Grin

Dogs have been allowed in Wilkos for ages. I don't understand the issue there.

I can understand why people aren't happy them being on chairs etc in places that serve food but don't see an issue with a placid dog sitting under the table.

They should have left the mutt at home. Children always get treated like dirt by (some) entitled dog owners.

How is your child accidentally dropping something your fault but her dog eating something he shouldn't not her fault? Grin

No wetherspoons has shit food. The problem isn't dogs per say but people who never would have got one did so in lock down but haven't bothered to train them. I don't mind well behaved quiet dogs but sadly many owners are lazy.
