To be annoyed at other sites discussing mumsnet users?

I've noticed that some Mumsnet posts and discussions are being shared on other websites, forums, and social media platforms without the author's consent. I find this really frustrating and wonder if IABU in feeling this way.

I understand that Mumsnet is a public forum, and anyone can read and participate in discussions. But when our posts are taken out of context and shared elsewhere, it feels like a violation of our privacy and a breach of trust. It's especially frustrating when people on other sites start making assumptions or passing judgment based on a single post they've seen, without knowing the full story.

I'm not saying that Mumsnet discussions should be kept completely private, but I do think that we should have some control over where our posts end up. It would be helpful if we could have an option to mark our posts as "private" or "not for sharing," so that we know that they won't be legally copied and pasted elsewhere without our permission.

I'm curious to know if other Mumsnet members feel the same way. Does it bother you when Mumsnet posts are shared on other sites?

YABU = It's the internet, deal with it
YANBU = It's poor form, I don't like it

Is there now a tattle thread about this mumsnet thread about the tattle thread about the mumset post?

If so Hello 👋

Anyway sorry this happened OP. Perhaps set up a private group to share pictures of your clothes. I know the thread and I like to see it though lots of nice outfits.

Every single post on Mumsnet has a Share function that you can use to share it on your own messaging and social media platforms.

Ooh it does!

Well thanks to your thread OP which I am still trying to get my head around the fact that if you post on the Internet, don't expect privacy, you thread lead me to having a gander and finding the thread in question.

I mean obviously it wasn't hard from the info you gave but considering you've been talking about private threads, you've more than likely drawn a lot of attention to it over there

It's not a private thread I look at it for style inspiration.

I’ll meet you back here once I’ve been around that loop 😆

No I know that, I mean the OP going on about threads being taken and posted and discussed elsewhere.

Exactly why I don't post threads and photos of myself

Oh I see!

ChiChaNaYubi · 12/04/2023 19:29

You need a code to join tattle 🥲 does anyone have one? I want to join their F1 thread.

The full picture is that I am upset that a picture I posted in a style & beauty thread was shared on tattle and mean comments made about my outfit.

It's my fault for posting it at all but God forbid a woman wants to talk to other women about her outfit without being picked apart.

They must be sad cases to act so bitchily.

SunshineGeorgie · 12/04/2023 19:43

I think mumsnet can be much much bitchier than Tattle!

No worries 😊

YANBU to find it annoying. I remember the days a load of people went feral on Reddit is that still a thing?

IlIlI · 12/04/2023 20:34

It's not nice, but even year 5 children know basic internet safety- like not sharing things you wouldn't like going further because people will and do screenshot and it can be sent on.
This is taught for even private messages let alone a site open to the public including complete strangers.

GoodieTheGood · 12/04/2023 20:37

I've seen an autistic poster bullied on Tattle years ago. Didn't see the poster since then but it was a pretty brutal pile on with posts and emoji. I left shortly afterwards because it was pretty much about bitching about famous and non-famous people. That can get tiresome pretty quick. As for the reddit mumsnet troll site, it's where both ex and current mumsnet users go to say everything they wish they could say here, pat themselves on the back for either not posting on mn for days or being banned on mn, yet constantly making new accounts to post again. They're a funny bunch to observe. You'd think they're solving world problems with how clever they believe themselves to be, especially the regulars and loudest among them 🤣🤣

The Reddit stuff was truly a sad spectacle if I remember rightly haven't looked in there for years.

thebaneofmylifeisacat · 12/04/2023 21:38

Couldn't give a rats ass.

But I post what I would say in rl

AllOfThemWitches · 12/04/2023 21:43

Haha just had a look at Tattle. I mean it's accurate if nothing else.

Cinnamon23 · 15/04/2023 10:29

As someone who has accounts on both sites, I’ve found Tattle overall (not just the MN thread) to be much more friendly, open minded and welcoming.

I’ve seen people on MN get absolutely annihilated for asking an innocent question - and not just in AIBU. There are some absolute arseholes here, you can’t deny that and pretend MN is the ‘good site’.

There’s good and bad everywhere, I don’t think Tattle is the root of all evil.

PollyAmour · 15/04/2023 12:32

I like the Celebrity Death Pool thread on Tattle, it’s in incredibly bad taste but funny. I don’t like the influencer threads which seem to be driven by jealousy that some people get free stuff because they’re well known.

I only read Red dit for the creepy stories and no sleep sections, I have no interest in discussing anything said on here over there.

It’s all a bit forum wars circa 2010 this stuff. Isn’t it?

SunshineGeorgie · 15/04/2023 12:32

@Cinnamon23 no neither do I!!

Furrybutts · 15/04/2023 12:45

I haven't read the full thread, but I'm sorry that happened to you op.
People can be such bullies.

I came to post just to say that I'm on a swingers site, and the forums there discuss MN threads too!

OKFinally · 15/04/2023 12:47

Echo the mantra of………if you are not paying for the product you are the product.

Also we drummed in to DS when he started using social media that if he wouldn’t stand up and announce it during whole school assembly then if wasn’t for the internet.

SpreadableCheeseOnEverything · 15/04/2023 13:19

I agree, @Cinnamon23

Tattle hasn't got the snobbishness from lots of posters that MN has

MaroonCow · 15/04/2023 17:27

Tattle is bitchy but owns it and glories in it and is totally honest about it and makes it sort of fun.

There doesn't seem to be the same moralistic posturing about it that you get on MN, or the same classism disguised as moral superiority. Tattle doesn't pretend that it's actually about higher morals.

Singapore4 · 15/04/2023 17:45

readbooksdrinktea · 12/04/2023 08:36

When something is free, you're the product. I'm surprised this still has to be said. There should be no expectation of privacy on the Internet, least of all on Mumsnet.
