Those of you who voted for Brexit when is it going to get better and how?

I didn’t and didn’t see any benefits. Tried to refocus anger about the lies during the campaign to resignation and acceptance. Was ready to try and embrace/ focus on positives and move forward but still really can’t see any. Now just getting increasingly worried and also fearful.

Hit me with all the benefits and when we’re going to see them impacting our lives.

Ironic for a man who has never been subject to a democratic election in his career.

CurlewKate · 26/04/2023 10:01

@x2boys "Why would people answer just to get abuse?"

Believe me, if you can give me some benefits, I would be weeping in your neck with gratitude, not abusing you!

Dyson left the UK and set up in Singapore- he's brimming with patriotism, that one.

James Dyson moved back to the UK in 2021. He recently pledged £6m to Malmesbury Primary School - where a quarter of his employees send their children to school;* *

Good for him & he doesn't have to do it but its like me donating a tenner.

He has a family fortune of £23 billion.

Of course unless we want to go back to the 1800s, educational centres like these should be available to all, not based on a post code.

Abhannmor
Last year my son was in Frankfurt to get a connecting flight. There was some hold up and he sent me a photo. Hundreds of pissed off people standing motionless in a corridor. Thinking about connections and rearranging flights.
Then a voice called out from the front - EU passport holders please come forward. Lots of angry British and American passengers. Well , I suppose the latter would still have been delayed, but who needs this hassle?

Everyone has an anecdote.
EU passports didn't help these Cypriot MPs travelling via Frankfurt last summer - stuck for two days in "third-world conditions"
the MP further hit out at the “apathy and coldness” of the German airport staff. “They lost our luggage. We haven’t slept for 48 hours.”

Berlin-Brandenburg Airport cancelled all takeoffs two days ago (strikes) - EU passports didn't help there either;

Didn't know Dyson had returned. He's left his company worth billions in Singapore though.

Dyson is still investing in the UK -

October 2022
Sir James Dyson’s vacuum cleaner and hand-dryer empire plans to spend £500 million on expanding its range of electrical hair-styling products.

The technology company hopes to launch 20 new beauty products over the next four years by ploughing more cash into research and development, including opening more laboratories.

The “vast majority” of the new investment will be spent on expanding its British development sites, the company said.

Are you saying that Brexit is a success because Dyson is still investing in the UK?

HannibalHeyes · 26/04/2023 12:14

Of course she isn't, but she's trying to imply that with yet more whataboutery. Just as her previous post was entirely irrelevant whataboutery...

are "plans and hopes" the Brexiteer version of "thoughts and prayers" ?

I planned to lose weight this year, and hope to win the lottery.

Meanwhile even the Telegraph (that I notice has fallen out of favour with the cut'n'past brigade of late) is bemoaning the fact that Europe is "eating our lunch"

Some farming sectors clearly did well (outlook less good due to increased energy costs/Ukraine war):

Sheep and cattle farms across Wales have seen a ten-year high increase in business incomes, according to new Welsh government data.

Dairy farm profits doubled in the milk year to 2021/22 and are set to continue improving this year.

Prepare to pay tax this coming year end as profits soar.

Does that make Brexit a success in your opinion?

Meanwhile even the Telegraph (that I notice has fallen out of favour with the cut'n'past brigade of late)

Not at all - your Telegraph link also states;
Separately, official figures showed that the Government has £13bn of headroom for tax cuts after public sector borrowing came in lower than expected.

We only left the EU (properly) two years ago - mid-Covid and now we are mid- Ukraine war - impossible to say. Ask me again in five years.

HannibalHeyes · 26/04/2023 12:38

Ah, deflect and defer. It just gets more and more convincing...

Oh ok, so not going well at the moment then?

Clavinova · 26/04/2023 12:39

HannibalHeyes
See? I can cut and paste too. Aren't I clever...

Not really - didn't the NFU advise against voting for Brexit? They don't speak for all farmers.

Clavinova · 26/04/2023 12:43

DuncinToffee

Personally, I don't think I've noticed any difference in my own life at all - I'm sorry to hear you are having such a miserable time.

HannibalHeyes · 26/04/2023 12:43

But "farminguk dot com" does speak for all farmers?

Your deflections are getting more and more desperate...

MavisMcMinty · 26/04/2023 12:44

Apparently the Leave/Remain vote split for farmers was exactly the same as for the general population - 52-48%. So unless you think we should blame Remain voters everywhere for the clusterfuck of Brexit, we can’t blame farmers for it either.

MavisMcMinty · 26/04/2023 12:45

(Many farmers vote Conservative though, so I do blame them for that.)

Crikeyalmighty · 26/04/2023 12:45

@Clavinova Couldn't possibly be connected to considerably higher prices though could it?? You know, all that food we were going to get cheaply when we left the EU. ? To be honest I'm fine paying decent prices for good produce but it's certainly not what many voted for.

Considering I spent £4 on a sourdough loaf and £5 on two 'grass-fed' beef burgers for the dc yesterday, I can assure you that 'cheap food' was not one of the reasons I voted for Brexit. The last time I looked, Germany had higher food inflation that the UK in any case.
