Sainsburys now doing nectar price

I've never really liked tesco club card prices because if you forget your club card you have to change your shopping habits for that shop and now sainsburys have followed suit with nectar prices!
Why can't supermarkets just either be price effective or just do deals like before? Can't stand this it'll be £8.10 without your nectar card or £4 with! Give me strength and reasonable prices ffs!

I hate it too as it means they can only offer me the cheaper price so long as I consent to them having data around my shopping habits.

That’s how loyalty cards have always worked. They just gave you points before that you could then spend with them!

ActDottie · 11/04/2023 12:11

I couldn’t get worked up about this. I always have my nectar card as it’s in my wallet. If I do forget it (haven’t yet) then I also have a back up on my phone.

SoupDragon · 11/04/2023 12:17

I use the Sainsbury's Smartshop app which is linked to my nectar card. I don't need the card.

I don't get why people get so worked up about this sort of thing.

thebellagio · 11/04/2023 12:18

Im
obviously being really thick. I’m trying to add my tesco club card to Apple Wallet and it won’t let me. It’s let me add my HSBC card easy enough but it won’t let me add any store card whatsoever

what am I doing wrong?

GCWorkNightmare · 11/04/2023 12:19

You need to add it to the Tesco Wallet app.

IrregularChoiceFan · 11/04/2023 12:21

thebellagio · 11/04/2023 11:43

Can I ask a daft question? How do you do that?

I genuinely don't know

Like other posters, I get frustrated walking into tescos then immediately having to walk out because I've given my clubcard to my husband.

I've got a photo of my dps tesco card barcode. Works fine

TeenLifeMum · 11/04/2023 12:24

I hate this. We don’t have a Sainsbury here but I’ll pop in when visiting in laws but now will have to pay extra? I don’t want a card in my wallet even on my phone to use once a year.

No, you won't have to pay extra. You will pay the same as before.

midgemadgemodge · 11/04/2023 12:28

I bet you won't pay the same as before
Because they are looking to make money and if they are offering cheap deals only to sone people others have to pay more to make up the loss

BashfulClam · 11/04/2023 12:30

They’ve been doing it for ages. I have all my supermarket cards in my phone wallet, my boots card and John Lewis card live there too. I always have my phone with me so the cards are there too.

You won't have to pay any extra, you just won't get the discount that Nectar Card holders will get for certain items.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 11/04/2023 12:32

It's a reciprocal agreement.

I agree to Tesco and Sainsburys selling data about shopping habits/insights to make money.

In return they give me money off my shopping.

If you don't agree to that, then you don't get money off.

Bimbleberries · 11/04/2023 12:35

i am not sure that Nectar prices are actually available just by using your nectar card. Unless they've changed it recently, I've only got those prices when I used the Smartshop app. You do get the bonus points on certain items by using just the Nectar card, though, just not the prices. (With the Smartshop app you get both).

You can get your nectar card online with the Nectar app, as well as the other methods via the wallet or the stocard app.

TeenLifeMum · 11/04/2023 12:36

Those saying you don’t pay extra - at Tesco using the club card is normal price (compared to Asda my local store) and non club card is a higher charge. The “discount” is just not an over inflated charge non card holders pay.

EyesOnThePies · 11/04/2023 12:45

Hmmmm, actually I see lots of Clubcard prices that are a good discount.

I use my card cannily, don’t allow myself to buy more than I need / want, and don’t care if they have my data. I am in the shop buying their own brand cereal and don’t care if they know that. Afaics the main way they use this is sending me ‘x off when you spend xx’ vouchers, set at slightly higher than the value of my average shop.

THIS. In big letters!!
I do not want my life in Apps on my phone. I don't want Big Brother snooping on me.
What on earth is society sleep-walking into!?

BCfan · 11/04/2023 12:54

I stopped shopping at Tesco because of this, now I'm going to stop with Sainsbury's too.

I don't have any loyalty cards - I'm not selling them my data.

Have you given much thought to how big data works for the interests of big multi national company profits but against the interests of ordinary people on a budget?

Supermarkets want you to spend as much money as they can make you. They have strategies to make you spend more but feel like you are saving to maximise this.

I find the lack of awareness and transparency around this worrying because it's unchecked often exploitation of vulnerable groups or marginalises vulnerable groups.

It's really something that needs better regulation and over sight by law.

We already have lots of deal like bogoffs which are difficult to compare (supermarkets try and do this so you'll buy the promoted product rather than better value alternative).

The fact you don't give it thought, is part of the problem. You don't understand what's happening so don't consider the implications. Everyone should have better aware of what they are selling and how it's not necessarily making anything cheaper for them.

Bibittybobittyboop · 11/04/2023 13:01

DH and I have made a conscious decision to have no loyalty cards for anywhere. We figure our data and our privacy is worth a lot more than what we get with rewards programs.

I don't pay extra at Tesco for being a non club card holder.

On the rare occasions I now end up in there, I will actively avoid products that have a club card price, and walk out the shop, to buy the same product elsewhere on principle.

It leaves me pissed off and reinforces my efforts to avoid Tesco's for as long as possible until the next time, when I inevitably end up doing the exact same fucking thing.

In this way Tesco club card does keep my spending down I guess!

determinedtomakethiswork · 11/04/2023 13:04

I can see the point about data, but I can't get worked up about Tesco, knowing that I'd like to buy a particular type of butter. I just don't care and would rather have the cheaper price

red78hot · 11/04/2023 13:04

Nectar prices are on the app, you have to use their smart shop app to take advantage of them. Use it or lose it 🤷

download the tesco app and then you will have your store in there. You can add this to your wallet if you have an iphone

Except you don't get it cheaper in the long run.

Have you downloaded the tesco app to your phone? Once you have done that and logged in you can see your club card, there is a option in the app to add to your wallet
