Sainsburys now doing nectar price

I've never really liked tesco club card prices because if you forget your club card you have to change your shopping habits for that shop and now sainsburys have followed suit with nectar prices!
Why can't supermarkets just either be price effective or just do deals like before? Can't stand this it'll be £8.10 without your nectar card or £4 with! Give me strength and reasonable prices ffs!

The club card changes a casual customer into a loyal one.

It doesn't really. That's the intention behind it, but think how many people have multiple loyalty cards. Just scrolling through this thread there are many mentions of having more than one loyalty card.

If having a loyalty card makes you do all your shopping at Sainsburys, you might well have done all your shopping at Sainsburys before. There'll be a group of people tipped from multishoppers to single-shoppers through such cards, but they're a small group only. In practice, because some things are only available in one shop or are cheaper in one shop, most people frequent more than one supermarket. If they don't, it's mostly due to accessibility of stores, which is not related to the card.

Forget your card, use the app, key ring?

It's quite easy to get around

I just want a supermarket that offers good quality goods at a competitive price without me having to remember coupons / to scan / deals, etc.

Which supermarket is that? Used to be Lidl, but they have stupid digital card thing now, too.

Well tbf the deals you get with the lidl card are shit

You still pay the same prices if you don't use it, occasionally get 30% off something random you'd never buy anyway.

Changeau · 12/04/2023 18:30

I have loyalty cards at every single supermarket that does them. I'm absolutely cut throat about not having to pay more than I have to. I use Lidl, Aldington, Sainsbury, Tescos and very occasionally Waitrose. I am not loyal.

Changeau · 12/04/2023 18:31

Aldington 😅

There's an app called stocard that you can save all of your rewards cards onto so that they're always with you. Well worth doing to nab the bargains - though I agree that it's frustrating seeing two prices on the shelf.

Jeesus. Life is just too short isn't it?!

Absolutely. Just give me your best price, Mr Supermarket. All these special offers for their special customersHmm is simply making me look harder at prices and comparisons. It is making me less loyal, not more.

Tesco's clubcard used to be great when it meant "have some vouchers that you can turn into days-out, pub meals, memberships, etc". Now clubcard means "we won't charge you the inflated price". Whoop-de-doo.

i just have the cards in my purse, along with my bank card,
although i did mislay my tesco card once, which was a nuisance, but all sorted now, just a matter of searching through my purse!
i have asda rewards and lidl card on my phone admdittedly

Nectar prices? They are available online. I'm about to get a delivery that includes a 24 pack of Coke Zero for £5.

How do I get the Nectar prices online - does it apply it at the checkout stage?
Eg tenderstem broccoli is on my Nectar app, but not on my sains app

@Twonewcats is your nectar card connected to your Sainsbury’s app?

The first screenshot you posted is related to Smartshop, that only works in store.

When I'm logged into the app it'll automatically shows me something is a nectar price as per my screenshot.

On the data thing...

Supermarkets use the data to help improve what they offer their customers. It's analysed to understand who (as in demographic group, not at an individual level) buys what, at what kind of frequency, in combination with what, and on what kind of shopping trip (small basket vs big trolley). They can see what's changing over time and act/adapt accordingly. It means they can plan promotions better, merchandise in the most effective way, use it to inform planning for future NPD and much more.

They want us to spend as much of our shopping budget as possible in their store (they are well aware most people shop around), so it's used to try and retain customers/get more of our weekly budget (not nec to spend more in total, but to spend more in their store).

For example... let's say sales of sausages have dropped. They can look at data and understand who isn't buying them any more, what they are buying instead, whether their spend is the same but just not on sausages (maybe they're buying more fish fingers, or bacon, or veggie sausages...) or whether they are spending less overall/with different shopping patterns (so maybe buying sausages elsewhere). So they can do a much more informed job of answering the question of 'why have our sausage sales dropped and what are we going to do about it?' than if the only data available was the headline sales figure.

If supermarkets didn't have loyalty schemes, they would be much less efficient, and prices for everything would be higher.

A decent, reasonable, answer. So many seem to be terrified of data and accusing others of being naive.

So just download the new app? It took 1 minute.

Did that - it doesnt transfer the card details. Theres no way to get to them even by logging onto the online account - just not shown anywhere. Logging into the new app requires me to provide the last 4 digits of the clubcard "for security" which guess what, I dont have with me BECAUSE I HAD THE APP INSTEAD.
I seriously have less difficulty logging into my mortgage account than the "security" tesco have put in.

Yep my Nectar card is definitely linked to the app 😕

pinkflop · 13/04/2023 19:58

@Twonewcats what happens if you search on the app for Coke Zero like I have?

Oblomov23 · 13/04/2023 20:23

Saw this. Is this going to benefit me much?

Ah, it shows the Nectar Price on the Coke Zero.
Thanks so much.
I think I see the issue I was having now - it seems that "Nectar Prices" and "Your Nectar Prices" are two different things 😖
So confusing
