Yes. Obsessed with right mug. I have different mugs specifically for:

morning Tea
cappuccino
black coffee (long)
espresso
afternoon tea
hot chocolate
iced coffee

i have a set i take on holiday with me too as I hate not having right mug.

It’s a very, very important subject.

Ah fuck, that was to the Op, why does the reply button not do anything?

Don't worry, I saw it anyhow

Two downsizing house moves ended my mug collection, sadly, but I still have some my mother got in the 60s, a couple of Ashdene ones my sister gave for her birthday a few years ago, an “I Love my Cat” one I bought in Queensland (a tough mug, it survived being dropped from my bag onto concrete with only a couple of tiny chips out of it!) and one a friend gave me recently with a couple of kittens playing with balls of wool - not the cartoon-cutesy-blah that description brings to mind, it’s delightful.

My mug choice depends on how my arthritis is. On a good day, I have a large, thick Starbucks mug which holds a lot and keeps the drink hot for ages. It's too heavy for a bad day though and that's when I like my Poundland mug, which is surprisingly decent quality. It has the PL logo on it and says 'This mug cost £1'. It's a decent thickness with a handle large enough for swollen hands. If things are really bad, I've got a PG Tips vessel which looks like a coffee takeaway cup with a rubber grip around it. It's got Monkey on it and was free with the teabags. On a matchday, I use my Jurgen Klopp mug. DH has a selection of Leeds Utd mugs, which I refuse to use.

this thread inspired me to descale the kettle, put a new filter in the Brita thing AND clean the teapot properly.
Exceptionally nice tea in a favourite mug.

My annoying problem is that I really want to have a lovely mug for work, but I'm a teacher and I really have to use a lidded insulated travel mug rather than a normal mug, otherwise navigating corridors full of kids is a bit hazardous!

Also a teacher, I had this lidded coffee cup for my birthday last year and it’s the best I’ve had! 🥰

Has to be a big mug, can't stand drinking my morning coffee from a thimble! We've got our big ones for the first coffee, then ever so slightly smaller ones for the rest of the day, then normal size for guests who don't appreciate drinking from a bucket lol. My MIL has her own one at ours, tiny thin thing, could never drink from that.

StopStartStop · 12/04/2023 05:48

I love mugs. China ones are best but all kinds are welcome. I have a pint mug, which feels ungainly but is good for those days when a normal mug is not enough. One of my favourites says 'Stop Loves Big Dick's' on it - from Big Dick's coffee store. At my dad's house, his favourite china mug has a pair of plums on the front, and mine has a pair of blue tits.

RedSmartie · 12/04/2023 06:08

I hate drinking from mugs, so I don't have any.
I prefer a cup and saucer.
A teacup for tea and a coffee cup for coffee.
I see some lovely mugs in the shops, but I never buy them because they wouldn't get used.

WandaWonder · 12/04/2023 06:27

My favourite one from wittards got broken, it was my exact favourite shape tall and thin (so my opposite 🙂) and had a large cat

I love tall ones

Inamechangedforthis23 · 12/04/2023 07:26

Forgot to say my OH loves the 15oz cornishwear mugs - they are a bit too chunky for me 😀

My mother would only drink from small, bone china mugs, nothing 'chunky'.

I love mugs, especially hand thrown pottery. I like certain mugs at different times of day, so my life is ruined if someone makes me a cuppa at 3pm in my breakfast mug.

Notjustamum28 · 12/04/2023 08:56

another EB fan here, have about 75mugs. have a few plain/starwars/gifty mugs available for outside tradesmen but otherwise its all EB here. Rotated of course! Christmas ones at Christmas etc. Currently using my Queen Elizabeth one 😊

I had some Emma Bridgewater for Christmas and was so excited but just didn’t get on with them, the tea goes cold too quickly and it didn’t feel right.

these are my favourite at the moment I like the Stoneware ones perfect size and keeps it warm, but DH keeps nicking the hedgehog one.

NB not the one in the picture that’s way too thin

Yes, yes ,yes to Dunoon mugs! We were staying in a holiday cottage last Easter and they had one perfect tea drinking sized bone china mug with a lighthouse and boat on. I would not let anyone else use it from the moment of my discovery of the perfect mug. I now have two Dunoon mugs at home and I must have my first cup of tea of the day in one of them. It is the law in our house.

That reminded me that whenever I stay in a holiday Airbnb or whatever, the first thing I do is look at the mugs. I choose my favourite(s) and it’s one of the highlights of my trip. If I don’t particularly like any of them it casts a slight pall on the holiday Grin.

I always take a mug or 2 away with me (even on a plane) as there is nothing worse than having your morning tea from a thimble sized mug!!
DH thinks I'm crazy but I see him jealous of my decent sized tea.

LadyFlumpalot · 12/04/2023 10:32

Love mugs. My favourite one was a freebie from a long-left workplace. It just makes the best tea. Unfortunately I dropped it and the handle cracked off, I still use it though, just without a handle!

Thin mugs from print on demand places make shit tea. Ditto ones with coloured insides.

zingally · 12/04/2023 11:17

I'm fussy about handles. HAS to be big enough to get at least 3 fingers in, and has to feel solid in the hand.

Doesn't that cut your hands?

LadyFlumpalot · 12/04/2023 19:00

@FragranceFree, nope. The handle broke clean off at the top and left a nubbin at the bottom. I use it like a normal mug, but wrap my hand around it rather than use a handle (I like my tea well stewed and with a good dollop of milk so it isn't too hot). The little nubbin had a sharp edge for a while but it's worn down now.

Throwncrumbs · 12/04/2023 19:10

I’m a mug!

This was my favourite mug ever... I put it into the dishwasher to much and it's really faded, so I don't use it any more... 😭

I'm a bit late to the thread but my sister and I both had this mug but with different girls on them. It was years ago but I'm sure they came with an Easter egg in them?

Catsmere · 12/04/2023 23:47

I bought a Dunoon “Golden Age of Sail” mug (not cheap, getting it sent to Australia) because I loved the design. Still do, but I never drink from it, because the flared top means the tea gets cold too quickly. Such a pity!
