My friend and I take a kettle on holiday as well as decent sized mugs so that we can have a cup of tea in our hotel room.

It was a standing joke for years, until last year, when everyone would come to our room, mug in hand, asking if they could have a cuppa.

We're off again in a couple of months, abs the kettle will be coming too.

Equalitea · 10/04/2023 14:17

Everything tastes better in Emma Bridgewater.

Fairislefandango · 10/04/2023 15:28

I like mugs too. Bone china is definitely best for tea. For years and years I always had a white bone china one with the alphabet in elegant black type around it from the Conran Shop. When it got broken I went to get another one. And again. The last one I got before the brand stopped existing has the Arabic alphabet. It's very faded now, but it's still my favourite!

Mxflamingnoravera · 10/04/2023 15:28

My mugs are all bone China and carry pictures of Marx, Tony Benn, Anarchy, women's rights. I love working from home and drinking from my Karl Marx mug.

I cannot drink out of a mug that is not white inside either, it makes the liquid inside the wrong colour and just revolting.

Orcubed · 10/04/2023 15:34

Definitely, different mugs for different drinks. I have a lot of mugs and get twitchy if anyone uses MY mugs, especially if they put the wrong drink in it!

TolkiensFallow · 10/04/2023 15:38

fellow mug lover here!

a chipped mug is a binned mug and the worse thing about Easter is the shit mugs that come with the eggs…

ThinWomansBrain · 10/04/2023 15:55

One of my mugs has a picture of a tabby cat with a unicorn head dress.
Have a unicorn song that I sing to my cat whenever I use it.🐱

DustyLee123 · 10/04/2023 15:56

A mug has to be white/cream on the inside for me.

That’s reminded me of a Smarties mug I got one year as a kid.

That sounds like my kind of mug, where did you get them from?
I have two pint size bone china mugs that are used in rotation. They cost £££ but I love them.

We have a huge cupboard of mugs and find it hard to cut down. Mine are all Emma Bridgewater and Cath Kidston and DH has a weird mish mash.

longtompot · 10/04/2023 19:28

There was another thread, end of last year I think, about mugs and the hierarchy of them (which are for guests, builders etc, never the same mugs btw) but there were photos. Disappointed with this thread at the shortage of pics, loved the Glosters mug btw @Starlin , sad it's not for sale on their website anymore :(

Starlin · 10/04/2023 20:15

@longtompot - they do a lot of different ones and have a full rainbow set available. I absolutely love their "mug club"!

Starlin · 10/04/2023 20:17

I have found my people...

I actually thought this was about mugs as in people who often get the piss taken out of them. Oooops

Diversion · 10/04/2023 20:21

Pottery mugs, no bone china and they have to be big. Mine mostly have gothic designs. My work mug which is referred to as the bucket by work colleagues is just about the right size. I have 2 favourite mugs at home which make my tea taste delicious and which I insist on using.

HollyGolightly4 · 10/04/2023 20:26

I want to love Emma Bridgewater... really really want to...but I just can't get on with the shape. Anybody got any recommendations?

My favourite is a port merion one, although I used to have an amazing Percy pig one until DD smashed it!

ChickenMaths · 10/04/2023 20:26

Dunoon Orkney mugs all the way! Bone china, white inside, nice designs, simple shape and generous size. Not a twiddly little fluted narrow thing like most bone china. If one breaks I replace it with a new design.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 10/04/2023 20:34

I adore mugs. Love dunoon mugs and wrendale mugs. I mostly drink coffee and the wrendale mugs are the perfect size.

We also have a collection of Emma Bridgewater mugs which are a good size for tea.

We have a set of pantone mugs as well which DH and the dses use.

BCBird · 10/04/2023 20:38

I've got a thing about mugs too. I just remembered I.hsve a new one I bought in Stratford last week. Will use tomorrow. Need s pick me up☕

glasshole · 10/04/2023 20:47

I have a morning mug for my coffee. It's a really big Union Jack one and I've got an emergency spare as when I find a mug I like, it's for life. Then at noon I stop drinking coffee and swap onto tea. The tea mug is footed and slightly fluted with a rim that is the perfect thickness. Again, I have a spare. I also have one the same at my sisters house and mums house. My youngest sister thinks I'm ridiculously pretentious and laughs her arse off at me and I'm like " It's a £4 Asda flag mug and a £2.99 b and m special you boob". She's a lot younger than us though so has no idea about the strange tastes and little peccadilloes you develop as you get older .

Errmmmmmmmmmmm · 10/04/2023 21:00

Please don't hate me, but my favourite mug is my Sports Direct mug - i know it's 'chavvy' but I love herbal teas, and I find I get a decent cup in that size and it is diluted from a tea pot.

gkd1234 · 10/04/2023 21:07

I like a nice hand-thrown pottery one.

Iris1976 · 10/04/2023 21:16

I have particular mugs in my house,my mum's and my sister's and I'm not happy if I'm not served the right mug 😂
