Booked to go to Cornwall next week and it’s looking like rain all week, AIBU to feel down about it?

Got the week off next week, booked a caravan in Cornwall and looking at the forecast it’s looking pretty rubbish. I can’t help feel annoyed about it! I know I should be grateful to just have a week off work but how do I get into happy holiday mode?! Any any tips of how to make the best of a rainy caravan break?!

Holidays in the rain are shite, I've been there too.

As the Scandinavians say "There is no such thing as bad weather, just a bad choice of clothing".
Be prepared.

Scandinavian countries also have the highest suicide rates in the world.

What an absolute joy you must be in company, you little ray of sunshine.

WestwardHo1 · 12/04/2023 14:35

Fair play OP, it's totally shit today!

ancientgran · 12/04/2023 19:00

I'm in South Devon and today has been totally shit. I feel sorry for holidaymakers. I've had GC here all day, lots of TV and plenty of arguing but I really didn't feel like getting them out whatever sort of clothes I have. The wind nearly blew me over when I was putting the bins out, the bin men come about 6 am tomorrow so I put them out today but I seriously wonder if they will still by there in the morning.

Oblomov23 · 12/04/2023 19:47

We came home this afternoon. It was pissing it down and we were all fed up. Glad to be home. Glad we went though.

Years ago we went on holiday to Bournemouth in August. It torrential rained for almost the entire week. My mum, bless her, put on her waterproofs and went on the bus down the town with my then 6 year old niece. They were absolutely determined to make the best of it. Take a leaf out their book, I'd say.

Not true

Not true

Yeah, correct: it's not as true as it used to be. Sub-Saharan African countries are worse now, for fairly obvious reasons.

It's still historically been very high, especially in Sweden, and has been linked to the poor weather and long hours of darkness.

Rather than making an absolute claim about the stats, I was trying to make the point that shit weather is actually, objectively really shit and depressing, and that jolly pseudo-'Scandinavian' platitudes about 'no such thing as bad weather!' are not very helpful or constructive.

Telling people that it's their own fault if they feel miserable on a shit, windy, torrential, stormy holiday isn't helpful.

There absolutely is such a thing as bad weather. Weather can kill you. And not because you're not wearing a cagoule or the right wellies.

Lots of sun here today in Cornwall with just the odd shower. Tomorrow and the weekend looks ok too so hope the OP manages a decent break whatever.

faffadoodledo · 13/04/2023 14:32

Yep beautiful bright and clear today. Played tennis, cut the grass, enjoyed the sun!

Iwasafool · 13/04/2023 16:29

Lovely in south Devon today but my God yesterday was bad, the wind and rain were absolutely awful and I felt sorry for anyone on holiday down here. Hope they are all enjoying today.

Iwasafool · 13/04/2023 16:50

Spoke too soon, it's raining again.

hopsalong · 14/04/2023 07:42

Bloody awful weather right now. Hasn't been as bad as I feared on the whole (on south coast), with plenty of dry and sunny spells mixed in. Wednesday was rough because of the wind but we did a kitsch 1000 piece jigsaw of (sunny!) Cornwall activities.

icanneverthinkofnc · 14/04/2023 08:00

We got back yesterday after a week on the south east coast. A week of disabled DH complaining he was cold. The caravan needs cleaning due to the amount of mud traipsed in..the dog enjoyed herself though 🙄
It was difficult finding disabled and dog friendly stuff to do. Normally do lots of outdoor stuff.

OoooohMatron · 14/04/2023 08:07

Well you did book for April in the UK! I think if you do this you need to assume shit weather and plan activities that are not weather permitting.

C1239 · 15/04/2023 07:55

In the end even though there was the couple of days of pretty much rain all day we had a lovely time!

That's great @C1239 !

Karwomannghia · 15/04/2023 10:23

Glad you had a good time, I’ve been thinking about you! We were in North Yorkshire and had chilly / rainy fun!

Aw, that brilliant! Sometimes just the change of scenery goes a long way to making a good holiday.

LBFseBrom · 15/04/2023 10:28

I have had many Cornwall holidays and always loved them. Sometimes there is rain, that's life, but there is so much to do and see in Cornwall.

Really glad to hear that. The storm was spectacular too!
