It's banned in hotels. It will set off the smoke alarm (and stink up the room)

doesn't set the smoke alarm off if you are careful and vape behind shut curtains with the little crack of window open

RoyGBivisacolorfulman · 07/04/2023 13:12

It doesn't set the smoke alarm's off if its not the big mod ones.

Limetart · 07/04/2023 13:12

I jonestly dont know anyone who smokes or vapes.
I assume from the steam vapes are warm so are they dangerous to health?
Like smoking a pipe caused tongue cancer. Due I think to the heat.
Are vapes similar?

Winecrispschocolatecats · 07/04/2023 13:14

Plaid trousers are very trendy right now - my DD wears her pj bottoms (clean!) with chucks and a hoodie outside all the time. Nobody would have known that you'd slept in yours.

As for vaping, well done for going outside. As they let off steam rather than smoke they don't set off smoke detectors and it's entirely possible to vape indoors without anybody knowing later. But the smell can linger so it's much more considerate to go outside.

FunnysInLaJardin · 07/04/2023 13:15

another top tip if you are staying in a premier inn etc without a fridge, leave your wine on the window sill if its cold enough outside, shut the curtains and you have a mini fridge!

Pubesofsoberness · 07/04/2023 13:18

I'd have put my big purple pokemon onesie over the top. But only because it was freezing at 6.30 this morning

Actually "not giving a fuck about what other people think of you" can also mean you (general you) is a narcissistic, anti-social, neighbour from hell, selfish prick.

Oh get a grip 😂

Notgoodatpoetrybutgreatatlit · 07/04/2023 13:30

Omg op! Chuck Taylor as well! What colour? And did you get the new platform ones? My partner just bought those yesterday! You are awesome.

Dweetfidilove · 07/04/2023 13:32

ThankmelaterOkay · 07/04/2023 07:06

He’s BU. Presume he also vapes?

I applaud people like you, the more middle aged vapers the better, and at 6:30am outside a travel lodge. Maybe some teens on their way back from a night out would have seen this - not so cool anymore is it!

If the middle aged can destroy vaping for teenagers like they destroyed Facebook, then I am all for this kind of behaviour.

😀So right 😀

For anyone wondering about vapes setting smoke alarms off.

I would imagine the best place to do it would be the bathroom, as there'll be lots of steam from the shower.

Ah, didn't realise that some had particle detectors! Wouldn't that mean that using hairspray/deodorant/any kind of aerosol could also set them off?? 🤔

MrsKHunt · 07/04/2023 13:39

Just remembered @NatashaDancing , I think I got it wrong because I distinctly remember my friend vaping while we were shopping in Debenhams

FlissyPaps · 07/04/2023 12:56

Rotherham 💪

We tend to ask the questions of where the hell do you live that it’s normal to be so shocked at people dating to wear pyjamas outside their own property.

Haha my sister is Wickersley and I’m pretty sure her neighbours don’t stand in there front wearing pjs either!

Good tip. I will put the milk there tonight.

WiddlinDiddlin · 07/04/2023 14:11

Judge all you fucking like but I am not tackling the painful and knackering experience of showering and dressing after a night in a hotel bed, without a bit of nicotine to wake me up first.

I think those judging others based on almost zero information about them are far far worse than those who vape first, get dressed for the day second... though that is of course a judgement in itself and I must throw myself in my own bin. Ah well.

OP - do as you please, you're harming no one.

LumpySpaceGoddess · 07/04/2023 14:38

Wouldn’t of thought anything of it but where I grew up plenty of people would nip to the shops in their pjs 😂

Cherryblossoms85 · 07/04/2023 11:49

Well personally I want to get a good rate on my annuity, so I'm planning on taking up smoking at 50. That way I can afford to go to nice hotels when I'm retired, and stand outside them at 6am, in a silk whistles maxi skirt and a tight black polo neck, chain smoking with a big filter.

My pension plan is dying in late middle age of something not too painful before the money runs out

MrsKHunt · 07/04/2023 13:39

Your friend doing it doesn't mean the shop permitted it. It's not a particularly useful example given the majority (all?) of Debenhams' stores closed in 2020/202. Perhaps that contributed to it. I wouldn't want to shop in a clothes shop that allowed it.

Here's some information about where you can vape in public. I can't think of any shops, restaurants, hotels, theatres or music venues I've been in which allowed it. Premier Inns don't.

Here's a list of supermarkets which have banned the sale of elf bars due to illegally high nicotine content.

Harry Potter pajamas - are you actually 14?

@Scalottia is there no crappier answer to a thread on Mumsnet than:

  1. Are you actually 14?;
  2. No is a complete answer;
  3. Did you mean to be so rude?
NatashaDancing · 07/04/2023 15:03

FunnysInLaJardin · 07/04/2023 13:08

Or you could just try curbing in your addiction and not being a selfish tosser running the risk of setting off the smoke alarm, with all the inconvenience that causes to everyone else, and stinking up the room and the curtains with fake smelling chemicals.

Jojobalone · 07/04/2023 09:53

No

but it’s the idea that you could be passing on such judgemental views to impressionable children.

my philosophy is each to their own as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone else.

if you have such a judgey negative view of this, then it will be top of the iceberg of all the judgey bitchy comments and views your children absorb

Which part of what you've just written isn't judgey and negative?

Emotionalsupportviper · 07/04/2023 17:11

DiddyHeck · 07/04/2023 12:04

There aren't.

It's just Mumsnet and they're probably sat around right now, feet up in slippers with the backs squashed, pjs covered in brown sauce and ketchup 😂

Yes it is addictive. The vapes contain nicotine

Have you personally inspected OPs vape then?

The liquid I use in my (non-disposable) vape has 0% nicotine.

I thought the whole point of vaping was that you got your nicotine fix without the harmful side-serving of tar?

(Lifeling non-smoker here - I think both smoking and vaping are disgusting)

Blossomtoes · 07/04/2023 17:35

I thought the whole point of vaping was that you got your nicotine fix without the harmful side-serving of tar?

It is. It’s also so you can do it in all the places you can no longer smoke.

I feel honoured that one of my posts was considered one of the crappiest answers on mumsnet. Where's my medal?
