I'm taking the dad's word for it. If you watch the video he clearly says "anal fisting".

But the book is linked above - why don't you read it yourself?

The man's word is not evidence.

What evidence do you have? Testimony from verified teachers, published school curriculum materials, your children's pornographic homework? Actual, solid, proof.

Not "what this person I don't know said on the internet".

I could say all sorts of shit on here. Doesn't make it true.

@SertralineAndTherapy

yet again, here's the book:
https://www.pdfdrive.com/this-book-is-gay-d178710673.html

And stop saying it was 'taught' - that's simply untrue.

This Book is Gay by James Dawson - PDF Drive

@SertralineAndTherapy so I'm supporting the brave parents who stood up against pornography being taught to young children unbeknownst to children I'm a troll. Typical response along with bigot, far right, Nazi etc... Well I for one am delighted the push back has begun & hopefully we'll end up with our women's spaces & women's rights back for women only.

Pretty much every sexually explicit book ever written is available either online or in hardcopy in libraries to anyone who wants to look...

I think a lot of the anger is the air of authority about this one.
It's promoted by the curriculum, by the Healthy Ireland section of the Library. Trustworthy institutions. Its not some random "dirty book" that teens might be drawn to, and somehow get their hands on.
It's the suggestion that casual hook ups with randoms is the norm and that you must be proficient at sexual skills to please said randoms - most people still believe that first love and learning and exploring sexuality together as peers is the best way to learn sexuality.

If you're already anti establishment, or pissed off with the government it's just another data point that they're out of touch, or imposing their values on people who simply don't see things that way.

And it is true that a lot of LGBT friendly policy is being put through under the radar. People are noticing the extent of it now and noticing how it impacts other groups. It's OK to oppose policy if you disagree. Even the far right/left extremists are allowed to protest. That's the essence of liberalism.

Bláthannabuí · 07/04/2023 21:48

Read the comments under the article on the gript on Facebook. Over 500 horrified comments. They can't all be wrong.
The Libraries were at fault also placing it on the age 12-17 young adult section against the authors guidelines. Juno Dawson strongly advised the book was NOT for children.

women's rights back

Not if Gript have anything to do with it you won't.

This is the madness! John McGuirk is the one to protect women's rights! It's just copying the US approach where the evangelical Republicans are trying to suggest they're the only ones who can protect the rights of women.

I'm hugely in favour of women's spaces. But I think that what you're saying is not only wrong but unhelpful to that cause. Maybe I can turn it into some simple yes/no questions?

  1. Do you believe that the content of "This Book is Gay" was taught to any classes, of any age?
  2. Do you believe that the content of "This Book is Gay" contains anal fisting and explicit graphics?
  3. Do you think that people making false claims on Mumsnet undermines their own credibility?
  4. Do you think that people making false claims on Mumsnet detracts attention from genuine concerns in related areas?

I work in education and so I find it incredibly dispiriting to have to fight fires that were set by those who complain about them.

Flounder2022 · 07/04/2023 21:51

@1Week the app part of the book is broken in to two sections- pros and cons of using them. You know, balance. Informing, so young people can make an informed decision. Because many of them are making these types of decisions anyway, without any balanced information available to them

Where on Gript's Facebook page? Between the anti-choice post and the anti-migrant ones???

I get that. I also get the anger in the air. I agree with you on most of your points, especially the right to protest.

What I don't get are the lies which @Bláthannabuí is spreading, which by crying wolf detract from the other issues!

You said anal fist pumping. You. In the title of this thread. And have been given so many reasons to show you it's not true. So at this stage you're wilfully ignoring the evidence.

None of that means it's true though OP, does it.

Come on, let's have some basic critical thinking here. Or hard evidence, like official curriculum materials.

I don't think there's any pros to underage kids using sex apps to hook up with randoms

But you've shown no commitment to finding out the truth despite being given the means to do so. Who cares how many time the video has been shared? What does that actually prove?

Your thread title claims that there is "pornography on the curriculum" and that it is "teaching 12 year olds about anal sex & anal fist pumping."

I am saying that those statements are not true. I have agreed with you about other points. If you can show me that I am wrong, I will, of course, apologise, in whatever way you like.

@SertralineAndTherapy I'm just so pissed off recently betweem Barbie Kardashian, the male GAA player allowed on women's teams, men blatently using women's toilets & changing rooms as the law is on their side if women next..

However there has been some progressive developments
Trying to force the Gardaí to use pronouns was overruled (RTE never reported this)
They tried to sneak in all gender sex toilets in Tralee, leaked plans & massive parental pushback now resulted in M, F & Gender Neutral (RTÉ never reported)
The removal of that book from the childrens library sections & the curriculum recommendations due to the efforts of parental pushback.
