Small victory for us Irish Parents. If you have the time please watch the video. These parents are speaking on behalf of the majority of us who believe pornography has no place in a classroom. Enough is enough.

I will be writing to our primary school principal in an personal capacity about this, but in general I find Gript at the hard end of anti-liberal sentiment so I’d be reluctant to give them any credit or kudos. I hate the polarising positioning of this discussion and fear for the appropriation of the forthcoming referendum on gender when really it should be sex-centred. I know that’s not what the OP is about, but I’ll be carefully choosing whom I ally my views to.

Bláthannabuí · 07/04/2023 01:09

@SarahDippity posted here in the hope of catching a few Irish Mammies!
RTÉ is covering none of this whatsoever continuing with it's policy of state sponsored censorship.
I have been busy emailing the above link to the TDs who are completly out of touch with Irish parents.
They are not educating in our schools, they are indoctrinating. As the above video shows parents were clueless.
Every Irish parent needs to see this video. The parents are advocating for the vast majority of us. We need their voices heard.
UK parents watch take note & do not let your country go like ours. Cheering on the UK for proper change, solidarity from this Irish mammy🥂

I'm not Irish but I'm a parent and I'd be furious if my children had to be taught this.

ISpyCobraKai · 07/04/2023 01:39

I'm so fed up of this shit.
I'm not Irish and I know it's not quite the same but I'm going to London for LWS on Sunday to make a stand against this.

turtlemurtle1982 · 07/04/2023 01:40

Support them 100%. Porn shouldn't be in any classroom- can't believe I've actually had to write that.

Bláthannabuí · 07/04/2023 01:47

Did you all watch the video? The parents speaking were so eloquent, peaceful & passionate.
The pro TRAs counter rally wouldn't let their faces be videod, wouldn't answer simple questions, just kept trying to drown out the poor parents with whistles & foghorns.
A grandparent speaking said the trans activists stick their fingers in their ears & go bla bla bla when anyone tries to speak to them.

A book teaching kids how to anal fist pump like wtf.. 12 years olds were being given this book.

OP posts:
Bláthannabuí · 07/04/2023 09:12

Irelands main news channel RTE still hasn't reported on the book being removed from the school curriculum. Absolutely disgraceful silence from them considering how many parents accross the country welcome the move & how many hundreds of thousands of children are protected from the contents.

nosyupnorth · 07/04/2023 09:35

The practical reality is that if your 12 year old doesn't have access to unfiltered internet (possibly while you are obliviously unaware they've got around your filters) one of their friends will.
At this age they are encountering porn and talking about extreme sex acts and conservative parents going 'NAH NAH NAH I DON'T LIKE IT' isn't going to change that.
I think there needs to be measured discussion of how to educate on this topic, and some of the currently handling is poorly done as educators struggle to catch up with the current societal realities without overshooting and giving too much information.
But adolecents are going to encounter porn, gay sex, and kink and they need to prepared to understand safe sex beyond 'use a contraceptive if a penis goes in a vagina', which will include some degree of being informed about things that might be considered extreme. If they aren't recieving any education, they're just get their information from the internet and gossip and be put at greater risk.

Bláthannabuí · 07/04/2023 10:01

@nosyupnorth how the hell is learning how to anal fist pump beneficial to a 12 year old?

OP posts:
Thelnebriati · 07/04/2023 10:40

Saying 'if you don't teach your kids about it then you must support no sex education at all' is a misrepresentation of what parents want.

PSHE was supposed to tackle the absolute epidemic of male violence against women and girls, and teach about respect in relationships along with sex ed. Its been co-opted.

Bláthannabuí · 07/04/2023 10:45

I am all for the Countess coming into schools to educate both sexes.

OP posts:
Whatwouldscullydo · 07/04/2023 10:47

Theres another thread in feminism on this.

My opinion is that actually the whole point of things becoming this extreme is because it will go one of two ways.

Either, parents will be so outraged that it will ALL be pulled altogether including what the rse etc was meant to be about in the first place which will mean that children will no longer learn what is right and what is appropriate , amd will kp longer have any idea of the boundaries they should have around the bodies , who should/shouldn't see it/touch it etc which of course will hand them.straight over to predetory adults and leave them with no ability to describe the abuse.

Or

Kids will have such extreme ideas if what sex and relationships are that they risk their bodies and fertility and sexual function performing all sorts of niche sex acts thet have grown up thinking its bigoted boring and out of date to object to.

Whoever wins, the kids lose.

We need to ask who benefits here. Because both are a pathway to abuse and harm.

Soubriquet · 07/04/2023 10:49

The fuck is anal fist pumping and why does a 12 year old need to know what it is and how to do it?

Bláthannabuí · 07/04/2023 10:50

@Soubriquet my sentiments exactly! I'm glad the parents were so graphic, parents need to be informed. How was this allowed on the curriculum, how did this bypass parents?

OP posts:
Whatwouldscullydo · 07/04/2023 10:52

The Internet argument doesn't hold up Either. I could find out how to make drugs or spike a drink or kill someone.online

Does that mean I should be taught the " right way" so I dont get caught 🤔

The answer is to restrict Internet use and have parental controls amd report children to the safguarding leads if they are being exposed to porn etc

Not teach all the other kids about anal

Bláthannabuí · 07/04/2023 10:59

@Whatwouldscullydo to think Irish schools gave this material to 12 year old children is beyond the pale. The author herself said that the book is not for children. The Irish governments agenda is horrifying. So happy these parents advocated for the vast majority of parents.

Quite simply its down to homophobia etc

I mean that's what we get called when we object but the truth is of you took a straight man or woman and had them talk to a group of school kids about their sexuality and what they get up to in the bedroom and handed out copies of 50 shades they'd be considered ( rightly so).predetory.

The real homophobia is the low standards held here. That in order to be " inclusive " and show the lgbt community they are welcome etc that sexually explicit material must be allowed because they cant possibly just be regular people with regular lives and families and jobs and mutually pleasurable and respectful loving " vanilla" sex lives

In fact is all very fetishistic because I'm.sure if you spoke to a married gay male teacher/plumber /firefighter about their sex lives it would not include half of this stuff and would be just like anyone else's. Its all the fantasy if what these people get up to when id put money on it being no such thing and would probably simply match with the same numbers of straight couples who are onto the more extreme stuff.

nosyupnorth · 07/04/2023 11:06

Alright since you're willfull misunderstanding, I'll try again with short sentences:

Kids don't need to learn how to do these things.
Kids do need to be informed about these things.
Informing kids protects them from being given the idea that extreme acts are normal/expected.
When 1/20 people age 16-24 identify as gay or bisexual, gay sex does need to be covered by sex education to keep same sex attracted young people safe.

gogohmm · 07/04/2023 11:13

@Soubriquet

New to me too. What was wrong with the bananas and condom sex ed lessons of my years? - I learned exactly what we needed age age appropriate intervals, my children received pretty similar (12 years ago ish) with added internet grooming topics. I'm all for information but why are we assuming that young teens are accessing dodgy internet sites? We had no filters on ours and my DD's knew they could ask, from their browsing history I know they were not looking at such things, perhaps it's different with boys?

ExtraOnions · 07/04/2023 11:13

I’ve just read through the curriculum and resources … can’t see anything about anal fisting. It’s like it’s just been made up to stir up hatred …

Bláthannabuí · 07/04/2023 11:13

@Whatwouldscullydo can you answer me why the 12 years olds in Ireland need to learn about anal sex positions & anal fist pumping including the graphic images demonstrating said actions. It is promoting progoganda. Nothing to do with sexual orientation.
The author herself also said it was not for children. Are you disagreeing with the author also?

Watch the video of the parents speaking & you will be informed. If it was so innocent they Irish department of education wouldn't have removed it so quickly off the curriculum.
