To think 32.5 hours is full time?

I'm at work 35 hours a week (5 x 7 hour shifts) with a 30 minute break, so technically it's 32.5. AIBU to think this is full time work?

Was out with some of my mum friends the other night and was straight up told how "it must be quite nice to have part time work even though the DC are in secondary school". My DC are in secondary school yes and I'm working full time because of that? (Not implying people have to of course, but it's full time surely?)

It’s not full time , I would class 40 hrs before lunch break full time - around 37hrs and I think most companies are that or more full time

nocoolnamesleft · 31/03/2023 20:36

I would consider full time to be 40 hours or longer per week.

Oysterbabe · 31/03/2023 20:36

I work 32 hours and consider it part time.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 31/03/2023 20:36

I thought 40 hrs a week was full time. But working 5 days a week also sounds full time. Why does this matter so much?

ADHDadvice · 31/03/2023 20:37

37 is standard in the whole of Civil Service as full time

32.5 would be classed as part time.

Moraxella · 31/03/2023 20:38

48hrs is full time

Isthisexpected · 31/03/2023 20:38

When I worked your hours I considered it part time. Full time is 40 no?

MrsTerryPratchett · 31/03/2023 20:38

Technically not. But you work proper shifts 5 days a week so it's as near as to make no difference. You don't have any of the benefits of part-time.

drpet49 · 31/03/2023 20:38

No it is part time

BecauseTheOnlyWayIsUp · 31/03/2023 20:38

36 hours is full time at my company (large recruiter at 5000+ employees)

Thebestwaytoscareatory · 31/03/2023 20:38

Yanbu, but you'll get loads of people suffering from cultural hegemony telling you that anything less than 60 hours a week is part time shortly.

Bemyclementine · 31/03/2023 20:38

Isn't 37 hours classed as full time? At least it is where I work.

MrsTerryPratchett · 31/03/2023 20:38

Moraxella · 31/03/2023 20:38

48hrs is full time

Hmm

Maybe for you.

ZebraKid71 · 31/03/2023 20:39

I'd class anything over 30 hours a week full time when talking about the life/work balance. But my organisation anytime under 37 is less than 1 FTE so classed as part time.

Tippexy · 31/03/2023 20:39

32.5 is more like 0.8 or 0.9. Certainly not full time.

MuffinTo · 31/03/2023 20:39

37 hours is full time to me, so I'd class you as full time. It's a bit of a grey area but I'd say part time is 25 hours or less.

HeyItsPickleRick · 31/03/2023 20:39

It’s almost full time.

Askingforsomeoneelse · 31/03/2023 20:39

I don’t think it’s full time no. When I worked 30 hours a week so only 2.5 hours less I definitely considered it part-time. I worked that over 4 day though.

Having said that I can understand why it feels full-time out 5 days a week for 7 hours. Can you condense your days?

burnoutbabe · 31/03/2023 20:40

So 9 until 4 every day less 30 min break?

If that's standard in your work then I'd say it's full time. It's every day and you just finish a bit earlier than other companies might.

cartagenagina · 31/03/2023 20:40

35 hours is full time where I work and I think that’s pretty generous.

32.5 is part time. Not sure what difference it really makes though. Your friend sounds jealous.

Liz1tummypain · 31/03/2023 20:40

In most of the jobs I've had full time was 37 or 38 hours a week but in your set up its certainly quite close to full time. Probably feels like it's full time.

MickeyMouseEars · 31/03/2023 20:40

Hmm, I work 35 hours (not including a 1 hr lunch break). That means in a day you only work 30 minutes less than I do. So I would consider it close enough to full time to be full time.

Junegirl15 · 31/03/2023 20:41

37.5 or 40 hrs is full time where I work depending on type of role/contract. We would consider anything less than that as part-time.

Comedycook · 31/03/2023 20:41

Years ago a full time job was ,9-5 with an hour for lunch which equalled 35 hours a week

Most full time jobs now are 37.5/40 hours.

32.5 is virtually full time... ok, technically part time but barely. I doubt you have heaps of spare time.

Greensleevevssnotnose · 31/03/2023 20:41

It's part time, or maybe compressed hours
