To think 32.5 hours is full time?

I'm at work 35 hours a week (5 x 7 hour shifts) with a 30 minute break, so technically it's 32.5. AIBU to think this is full time work?

Was out with some of my mum friends the other night and was straight up told how "it must be quite nice to have part time work even though the DC are in secondary school". My DC are in secondary school yes and I'm working full time because of that? (Not implying people have to of course, but it's full time surely?)

It's equivalent to 9am to 4pm, so I'd say not far off full time work

PickledPurplePickle · 31/03/2023 20:50

32.5 hours a week is not full time

CrystalCoco · 31/03/2023 20:50

It's a lot closer to full time than to part time IMO.

Zipettydooda · 31/03/2023 20:50

37 and above is considered full time officially but I work 34 hrs and as far as I’m concerned I work full time no matter what anyone thinks

duoplik · 31/03/2023 20:50

48hrs is full time

Is it?

duoplik · 31/03/2023 20:51

FT is normally 38-40 depending upon sector & how long lunch breaks are.

MathsNervous · 31/03/2023 20:52

DH does 35hrs over 4 days. 2x10hr days, 2x 8.5hrs Monday to Thursday. Fridays off.

Somanycats · 31/03/2023 20:52

NHS and full time is 37.5

MathsNervous · 31/03/2023 20:52

*7.5hr days

tootiredtospeak · 31/03/2023 20:52

35hrs is FT where I work but that's 8 hour days with 1 hrs lunch so 7 actual working hours per day.

LondonQueen · 31/03/2023 20:52

37 is generally considered full time. However I wouldn't appreciate the snarky comment at 32.5 hrs, maybe 8 hours a week!

duoplik · 31/03/2023 20:53

Where I work now f/t is 36 hours but 30 mins lunch break.

PetitPorpoise · 31/03/2023 20:53

It sounds like you have all the downsides of full time with a bit less pay!

Shame you can't do it over 4 days.

Lem0nie · 31/03/2023 20:53

I work the same, 9-4 32.5 hours after unpaid breaks and it’s definitely full time.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 31/03/2023 20:53

I work 30 hours and that is part time. 37.5 over 5 days would be considered full time in my workplace.

BackOfTheMum5net · 31/03/2023 20:53

The government classes anything over 30 hours full time.

But most people would say around 37 hours.

Schmutter · 31/03/2023 20:54

It’s so close to full time hours (37 where I work), that it must feel like it.

Atnilpoe · 31/03/2023 20:54

It is the contracted FT hours of my job. In reality I am there another 5 hours a week, but no one could criticise me if I wasn’t. My job definitely feels FT. I am broken by Friday night. But how intense a job is during the day definitely varies too!

HunterHearstHelmsley · 31/03/2023 20:54

It's 2 hours shy of working 4 days a week so I'd consider part time, personally.

It's a shame you can't add the extra over 4 days and take a day off though!

x2boys · 31/03/2023 20:55

I worked in the NH S for many years 37.5 hours was classed as full time anything less was part time

TheYearOfSmallThings · 31/03/2023 20:56

37.5 over 5 days would be considered full time in my workplace.

And by the way the 37.5 hours doesn't include the obligatory half hour lunch break - apparently we are not employed during that time. So it is really a 40 hour week.

Spendonsend · 31/03/2023 20:56

My contracts have varied between 36 and 38 hours for FT, then either 30 minutes or one hours unpaid break.

Im sure theres some government definition where 35 hours is FT.

GemmaFoster · 31/03/2023 20:57

People assume if you do anything less than 37 hours full time, you’re basically on a holiday, barely work & have no work stress or career. They are clueless. You are no doubt doing a full time job in slightly reduced full time hours. But hey ho, hang on to it. Flexibility is hard to find. X

Starlightstarbright1 · 31/03/2023 20:57

I do 32 over 4 days . F/T where I work is 37.5 - 7.5 hours over 5 days.

the difference in pay vs an extra day off means I stay part time

Babyroobs · 31/03/2023 20:58

No where near ! Unless we are going to a four day week for all !
