If you work in education has any child gone on to be famous or notorious?

Having a chat with a colleague today and she said that a child we taught she thought would be a famous footballer when older.

I just wondered if anyone, who works in education, has taught a child who went on to become famous or notorious?

My DS went to school with a now famous footballer. He was a bully, and is now incredibly rich. Probably still an arsehole no matter how many “inspiring talks” he gives at schools

A boy I taught in reception murdered someone when he was 16.

Were you surprised? We once considered keeping a primary child’s school photo ready for when we were asked for a mugshot. We didn’t of course and I’ve no knowledge of what happened to the boy but no one would have been surprised. I’ve often wondered.

He would have been my 1st choice to be a murderer in that class

No didn’t reach but went to school with lots including jessie J and adele.

Depressingly I’m aware of 5 convicted murderers I’ve had in my primary classes, 2 rapists and various others in prison. All by 25 ish.
A few have had good government jobs, but not famous.

I taught a boy who brought a razor blade into my lesson in the first few weeks of my first paid teaching job. I told him to hand it over and surprisingly I did. Head of Science said ignore it as it was one of the scalpel blades out of my prep room. I checked and didn’t believe it was but realised I couldn’t challenge it. 15 years later he murdered someone with a blade.

My form tutor at school had previously taught at a young offenders centre. She had taught a very high profile child murderer.

The child had since reached adulthood and been released. My teacher knew what they were doing for work and that they had a new name but didn't know the name or the area. She said it frightened her to think of them out there and nobody knowing who they were.

Not teach, but I went to school with Lucy Letby. Same Year

My uncle went to school with Jeffrey Dahmer... apparently he was nice, but a loner. Borrowed him a pencil once in Math class

What was she like at school?

bridgetreilly · 28/03/2023 23:24

One super super super famous rock star. Another musician and his actress wife.

I taught 2 boys who went in to torture and murder a pensioner for drug money. They are quite notorious locally. I could tell one was going to end up in prison because of violence (I taught him when he was 7yo) and the other was his quiet pal who did everything he was told by the first boy.

Hmmmm I wonder who they are 🤔 is one of them back in prison by any chance?

I went to school with someone who became a model and another who was on X-Factor (she made it to the live rounds but got voted off early).

My husband went to school with a few people who became a murderers. He also has to deal with some pretty high profile criminals as part of his job.

Was that when she lived in Dundee or when they’d moved away.

Her family owned Ripley the Opticians in Dundee.

He lived in Broughty Ferry for a while, so I’m guessing there. I’ll have to ask him or my mum, because I didn’t think he was there in the 60s so perhaps it was later (they moved to Broughty Ferry in the early 80s as far as I know).

DH taught Sam Smith. He wasn't awful but he wasn't great either, not interested in school at all (well, I suppose he didn't need to be) and always had a coterie of adoring girls around him.

Harls1969 · 29/03/2023 00:25

A member of a boyband put together on X-Factor

My Grandma taught Lulu

My parent taught a Paralympian and said they were probably one of the worst teens they ever had the displeasure of teaching.

I taught a young girl who will one day be queen. I say 'taught' but what I really mean is 'did 2 weeks work experience in her school after completing my GCSEs'.

What was she like?

My husband's close relative taught Osama Bin Laden English. She said he was very polite and very religious.

He was a student in the uk.

Nopinnogin · 29/03/2023 08:11

If you think about how many teachers each student has during the course of their school life it would be over 100 easily. So it might well be that teachers, who teach thousands and thousands of students, will remember the famous ones- the same famous people are probably mentioned numerous times. Not too unbelieveable, imho.
