… of telling my OH to manage his laundry. I don’t mind doing his laundry, but I just want him to use some common sense.

is it dirty: put it in the laundry basket,

is it in between: fold it and put it on the dresser and wear it again next day rather than KEEP GETTING CLEAN CLOTHES OUT

do not: leave various garments lying around the bedroom with no FUCKING indication of what stage they are at! I should not have to sniff test his clothes!

I genuinely feel like a broken record. It’s not difficult. The other week there were two T-shirts some pj pants and two pairs of jeans that I folded neatly on the dresser to wear again. He was notified again of the “please just help me with this”

Today - again - He’s been through three changes of clothes and I’ve come upstairs to find the bed covered in clothes - so I’ve quit. I’ve dumped them all the dresser and I’ve decided I don’t care. I’m making no effort to sort/wash them so…AIBU?

yanbu: he’s being a muppet. He can sort his own shite out now

yabu: he’s a bloke - they can be a bit simple

if anyone would like to quietly quit with me feel free to add what your quietly quitting on

Right… I’ve had enough…

You sound controlling. Fold them up and wear them again the next day. Don't keep putting on new clothes. Tbh if I was your husband I'd tell you to GF.

Solution. Stop doing his washing. Stop sniffing his clothes. Live your best life.

It puts the washing in the basket or it gets the hose again.

I'm harsh. I have a DH, DSD11 and DSD17. They're all capable, and lazy with washing. So I'm really strict, otherwise I end up drowning in it, and it's bollocks.

  • If it's not in the basket, it doesn't get washed.
  • If it's on the bathroom floor next to the basket, it doesn't get washed.
  • if it's not in the basket by Friday night, it won't be washed by Sunday afternoon
  • if you decide to dump a load of washing in the basket when it's been emptied, it won't magically appear the next day, you're not living on a cruise ship.
  • If it's clean and folded on the island ready to be taken upstairs, you have 24 hours then it goes in the bin, I don't care what it is (two teenagers are a NIGHTMARE for walking past their piles and ignoring it)
  • I don't care if you have no clean uniform/work shirts/pants and it's Sunday night (when it magically appears from a bedroom). Best get it in the machine yourself and get up early tomorrow to tumble dry it.
  • if it has a spectacular biological stain, don't take the piss. Prewarn me, or stick it in the machine yourself.

I HATE it when it's just assumed I will wave a magic washing wand and make stuff clean!

Absolutely NOTHING harsh about that.

You sound extremely reasonable.

Laundry for a family is a huge constant.

I have found that moving to fleece pj's, fleece/polyester lounge wear for the house during winter made a huge difference to my work.

All sports gear is polyester/fleece/very light.

All the above dry very quickly, in 20 minutes if hung out.

30 in the dryer.

Game changer here.

I found putting them in charge of their heavy cottons like hoodies/jeans etc. meant they wore them far more frequently between washes.

As they shower all the time, I don't see the issue.

Devoutspoken · 29/03/2023 08:07

Both me and my dh do the laundry in our house, we have no rules and no dramas

Blokes aren’t simple
they bult all the cities and run all the governments

they just get away with what they can

I’ll never live with a man again

Unfortunately, this is correct.

HettyMeg · 29/03/2023 08:27

Don't do his washing. He's a grown man.
