To think I will be judged on holiday and plane about my size?

Ykn · 25/03/2023 21:27

40 something, 5.8 tall, size 20-22, hoping to feel confident enough to wear a bikini or tankini around the pool on my coming holiday.

Would you be judging me on how I look? Thinking "I'm glad I don't look like her" and/or "what on earth does she think she looks like?"

Would you be looking over at me on the plane to see if I can fasten my seat belt? To see if I have to ask for an extender? To see me become flustered if I can't fasten my seat belt and have to ask for an extender?

Interested to hear your honest thoughts.

The OP is a previously banned troll.

Hmmm, interesting. Genuine question - how would anyone know this? Just from a user name?

That’s fucking gross. Of course it’s not horrible to not want to sit for hours whilst a strangers skin flakes fell on you and your inflight meal.

Fat people get Psoriasis, too.

Always fun to be treated like a fucking leper.

Nevermind31 · 26/03/2023 14:38

as long as you don’t spill over into my seat I couldn’t care less

Ramunea · 26/03/2023 14:53

Prople most probably will look if you wear a bikini, but if you have the confidence to rock it then who cares.

The issue wasn’t psoriasis, it was picking at it so flakes fell on to a stranger. Nobody would accept this. Sorry.

If he couldn’t help scratching, he should have been fully covered so the flakes were contained in his clothing rather than ending up on the person next to him. Would it be acceptable for someone with dandruff to keep scratching flakes on to strangers sat next to them?

I wouldn't judge anyone on how they look. I might not take kindly to sitting next to a larger person on a plane though if they were taking up more than one seat as has happened to me a couple of times in the past.

OldTinHat · 26/03/2023 14:59

Nope. Because I'm a similar size to you and who gives a shit what people think when you're on holiday? You're on holiday! Go strut your stuff!

OrinocoGlow · 26/03/2023 15:02

What a truly unpleasant and unnecessary comment that was.

CockPits · 26/03/2023 15:03

As long as you’re not taking up more space than you have paid for as it’s not fair for others to end up with less than they have paid for

Mumwithbaggage · 26/03/2023 15:12

@HoppingPavlova I always tighten up the seat belt when I get off the plane. No idea why I do it!

OneFrenchEgg · 26/03/2023 15:13

The issue with the the skin was the picking not the problem. I sat there long enough because I felt like a complete cow for being stressed by it, but flakes of skin falling on you (planes don't have any wiggle room) is really unpleasant.

ilovepixie · 26/03/2023 15:23

I'm 54. 5ft 3 and a size 22/24. I'm going on holiday in a month. I've bought shorts and bikinis and sun dresses and I'm going to wear them! I've also bought a seat belt extension just in case. I don't care what others think.

SummerLover01 · 26/03/2023 15:24

Genuinely wouldn't give the swimwear a second thought......

But......

Sharing my already minimal plane seat/space with someone else infuriates me. Mostly it seems to be men with an inability to close their legs and tuck their arms in. I suppose being sat next to someone plus size who can't remain within their share of the space would be equally annoying

QueSyrahSyrah · 26/03/2023 15:29

The vast majority of a people are too busy living their own lives to even notice other people, never mind judge.

Of course there are some people who take pleasure from looking at and judging others, but they're miserable nasty c**ts, so who gives a flying fuck what they think?

So it's not the fact that they have an autoimmune condition, it's the fact that they have an autoimmune condition. And if somebody has an autoimmune condition that can (and is) made worse by covering it fully and improves upon exposure to sunlight, they should make sure to cover it up away from sunlight and the eyes of others.

What's called dandruff can also be scalp Psoriasis. Time to wear a thick woolly hat and just bang your head against the seat repeatedly to try and distract away from the prickling, burning sensation? Or shall we just go for the full burka option for people with Psoriasis?

DP knows all about being scared of being judged with any part of his body uncovered. The OP would be fine wearing whatever she wants at the pool, but the person who would most benefit from being able to feel unjudged in the sunshine (because it can actually help clear the condition) wouldn't. Because he's already been reminded that he shouldn't be out in public because he's disgusting for his immune system attacking his body.

There's no natural sunlight on a plane though - sitting up close to someone flaming bits of skin on to me was revolting. I don't know what wins here - his right to flake skin on me, and me just suck it up?

OneFrenchEgg · 26/03/2023 15:47

I'd be thinking nothing but "I wish I was confident enough to wear a bikini too......I envy that woman her confidence"

This!

KarmaStar · 26/03/2023 15:54

Don't give anyone the power to alter your emotions op,ever.🌈
Smile, head up,feel confident! The more you smile and feel confident the more confident and happy you will feel.
Go have lots and lots of great times on holiday and do not give strangers perceived opinions a single second of mind space.🍹

Brewskipa · 26/03/2023 18:57

I’m the same size as you and recently
flew with Tui and didn’t need a seatbelt extender. I did buy on off Amazon just in case and it was less than a tenner, well worth it for the peace of
mind that I could be discrete if I needed it!

Newnamenewname109870 · 26/03/2023 18:58

nope! Not at all. Be kinder to yourself. We’re not on this planet long. Wear your bikini.

nomoremerlot · 26/03/2023 19:02

Wouldn't look, wouldn't care, have a fan holiday.

TowerStork · 26/03/2023 19:06

Yes you will be judged by some people BUT so what. You will not enjoy your holiday if you don't let it go and ignore those people.

Bayleaf25 · 26/03/2023 19:10

I’m a size 20 and haven’t needed an extender recently on EasyJet or BA (I was worried about it though), I certainly wouldn’t be judging anyone else!

I did actually wear a bikini which was a huge deal for me and I was slightly self conscious but tried to tell myself off (with a F@@k it, wear whatever you want attitude). I’m 50 so tried to tell myself it was ridiculous worrying about what others think at my age!!! Difficult as I guess you always care, but I say be brave and go for it.
