I was always told as a child I'd be tall as an adult - by everyone around me - but my actual adult height is 5ft1/155cm. I'm female.

Isn't from 5-4 to 5-6 average for women now?

Not in England, no. In 2021, the average height for women in England was 162.4cm, which is between 5’3” and 5’4”.

TrtseHkpr · 17/09/2024 09:50

Short, but not unusually so. I'm 5'2 and I completely understand!

Brieonlybrie · 17/09/2024 09:51

It's very short but there is nothing 'wrong' with it and nothing you can do in any case.

Smallsalt · 17/09/2024 09:54

Short.

I am 5ft4 or 5ft5ish, which I thought was average but am now starting to think is short since starting to work in a school full of giants!

NotSmallButFunSize · 17/09/2024 09:54

Average height for a woman in the UK is 5'3"

Lifeofthepartay · 17/09/2024 10:17

I am 5ft 3 and I think I am short.

sanityisamyth · 17/09/2024 10:19

Short. I'm 5'7" and I'd say I'm average.

Treelichen · 17/09/2024 10:36

Short.

GettingStuffed · 17/09/2024 10:41

It's short. My mum was 5'2, my Gran was 5'3 my DD is 5'3 and they all consider(ed ) themselves to be short.

ShortColdandGrey · 17/09/2024 11:13

I am 5ft (probably shorter since I keep shrinking but I refuse to check haha) I would say yes I am shorter than the average person, but is the average height for woman in the uk not 5ft 3 or 5ft 4? Does it bother you being short? I do hate having to wait for a tall person to come along when I can't get something off the top shelf in the shops. It can be a bit embarrassing asking random strangers to help when you are on your tip toes and can't reach 😆It is only going to get worse as I get older and shrink more haha

Mercurial123 · 17/09/2024 11:16

It's not average. It's short.

Looking at the growth charts it is just below the 9th percentile and about 9cm below the median.

This means that in a random group of 11 women you are most likely going to be the shortest. I'd say you were an inch or two outside the realms of average height.

rosesareredvioletsareblueaimverytiredandsoareyou · 17/09/2024 11:19

It's below average but certainly not abnormal. My mum and I are much taller than my older sister, and she's not much taller than you, but I never felt odd out and about with her.

HailtotheBop · 17/09/2024 11:38

I'm 5'2 and am considered short, so yes I'd say you're short. Unfortunately I'm short and fat so finding clothing to fit and suit me can be a bit of a bother.

DisneyDisney · 17/09/2024 12:26

ForGreyKoala · 17/09/2024 03:30

Short. I'm 5 ft 7 and don't consider myself as tall.

But you are… comparatively speaking.

that’s over the 75th centile meaning you’re taller than 75 of women.

I think a lot of people think average heights are taller than what they are because a lot of people have no idea what heights look like.

I am 5ft 8 and frequently have people, shorter people challenge me on my own height because they want to imagine their height is taller than what they think it is.

meikyo · 17/09/2024 12:38

Bit late to the party on this thread. I'm 152 cm and definitely on the small side! I really dislike the term "short" though as to me it implies something lacking!

Well you are lacking height, so…

tiagra · 17/09/2024 13:01

162.4 (5' 3.9") for women
175.9 (5' 9.25") for men

NHS /Statista figures

Cainyp909 · 17/09/2024 13:43

JHound · 17/09/2024 07:39

I don’t think this is true.

@JHound that's because it's not true, he's lying through his teeth any woman regardless young or elderly, a 5'7" female, God even a true 5'6 female with a slim build seems quite tall, and this is coming from a 6'8" male

Cainyp909 · 17/09/2024 13:49

sanityisamyth · 17/09/2024 10:19

Short. I'm 5'7" and I'd say I'm average.

@sanityisamyth that's your personal opinion but sorry to say it's not a fact, a 5'7" female is over 75 percentile for women so you're tall! Deal with the fact

@rosesareredvioletsareblueaimverytiredandsoareyou taller is taller doesn't matter if it's not by much I hate people saying that

NotSmallButFunSize · 17/09/2024 09:54

Average height for a woman in the UK is 5'3"

@NotSmallButFunSize No! it's not is probably much closer to 5'4"

Cainyp909 · 17/09/2024 13:58

Smallsalt · 17/09/2024 09:54

Short.

@Smallsalt you're far from being correct it's not what you feel, it's what's factual whether you agree or not your average height, 5'4" female is average and that's that

Cainyp909 · 17/09/2024 14:02

Oblomov23 · 17/09/2024 07:42

Isn't from 5-4 to 5-6 average for women now?

@Oblomov23 sorry but no chance 5'6" for a female i personally still consider 5'6" "kinda tall side" with 5'5" being high end average
