To ask why my buggy is permanently covered in dog shit?!!

Mummypig32 · 21/03/2023 18:49

I push a double buggy. I'm out and about a lot, walks, baby naps, school run etc. It's a really nice buggy as well, most expensive thing I ever bought and I love it.

Sadly it's now fucking revolting and I'm considering just setting the whole thing on fire.

Every day I seem to end up with dog shit on the wheels. I dont have a dog. I used to like dogs now I fucking detest the vile creatures and the morons who own them. I'm sorry to all the good dog owners out there but I am so SICK of having to sit with a stick and scrape smelly revolting POO put of the pram wheels.

It makes me physically sick and the smell stays with me and its just so horrible and disgusting and it's literally several days a week.

We live in a small town and I wonder if it's particularly bad round here...it does feel like everyone has a dog. But Jesus fucking christ does NO ONE pick up the poop?!!!

Obviously I try to not wheel through it, I do look and try and avoid it but clearly it's not possible because i still end up with it on the wheels.

The last straw was this morning I put the brakes on and got the kids out, went in house abd removed my shoes and then saw I had dog poo on my ankle...as I'd put on the foot brake, my ankle must of touched the wheels and poo had got on my clothes 🤢🤮🤢🤮🤢🤮😭

So my question is (sorry I just get so angry about this!!!) Does anyone have a brilliant tool they use for washing the buggy especially the wheels? I'm thinking like a brush/hose type thing...something I can actually wash it with properly? Or do I just get a big bucket and a dish brush? 🤔

Thanks all for your suggestions. Feel loads better having a rant and knowing I'm not the only one tbh!! Going to look into the devices recommended 👌

If I was in charge of the country I would make it law all dogs had to wear some sort of nappy whilst out walking. Then the owners can have the problem of washing the shit off the dogs behind when they got home! I bet not many people would have dogs then!
Great Idea - but only if also applied to cats who shit all over the place round here and don't bury it (I have watched them do it).

Neededanewuserhandle · 22/03/2023 08:04

"NADOALT!" Oh be quiet. No, we no. No one's said ALL dog owners. The fact is MOST are. The vast majority. Because the evidence is on the paths, my shoes, my buggy. Its not one or two owners.... It is most!!!
in your small area - not in all of ours.
There is very little around here.

summerpoolandsun · 22/03/2023 08:06

It’s so disgusting, I’m constantly dodging the dog shit on the school run and having to tell DS, careful there’s a massive piece of shit there, there and there. It’s like these dogs control the streets.

Noshowlomo · 22/03/2023 08:10

@summerpoolandsun I’ll be doing exactly the same in 30 mins when we start our walk to school.
@Neededanewuserhandle clearly not just in her small area judging by all these comments. I imagine posters are from all over the country

It’s got to be an area thing. Cant remember the last time I saw any one a pavement, and you can bet your life if it does happen someone’s posting the Ring footage on the local Facebook group within the hour.

It is vile though. I get embarrassed walking my dog and seeing the mess in grass verges and along public footpaths.

It's not a problem where I live, either. I couldn't tell you the last time I saw dog shit on the pavement or verge. And I live somewhere that gives direct access to open countryside, so loads of dog walkers walk up through my estate to take their dogs out.

I don't understand it, I had dogs for 33 years and never left shit lying around, although I daresay they might have occasionally snuck out a stealth crap in the woods.

I wonder it's more of a problem in some areas than others?

Fair point - I wonder if it's more prevalent in densely populated areas (not excusing it at all).

Well I live in Cornwall and it's an issue here on sprawling beaches and all over quiet residential streets.... 😔

I live in an AONB opposite green belt and it’s not an issue here at all. I can’t think of the last time I saw dog mess on the pavement here. Ditto for our closest market town.

But I went into London with the buggy this week and it was an absolute mine field. It’s not just the new turds, it’s avoiding yesterday’s half scraped up turds and being quick enough to assess whether the brown lump is dead leaves or dog mess. It’s genuinely very hard to avoid and it hasn’t changed since we moved out of London in 2021.

Georgeandzippyzoo · 22/03/2023 09:39

Dog owner here. I always pick up but since we got our dog and we walk for miles, I'm.amazed at how much dog crap is actually on paths and grass.
I don't have an issue when picking it up but cleaning it off something literally turns my stomach, its the only going I struggle with!
I'd suggest the boot buddy as well but it's quite small, a jet hose or one of the dog washers where there's a tank of water that you 'pump' and pressure makes it a little jet hose.

For travelling I've seen people use shower caps on the wheels while in the car.

Itcouldhappenabishop · 22/03/2023 11:00

Because some PEOPLE are arseholes. I'm a dog owner and always pick up after my dog. I'm still furious and disgusted with the filthy lazy bastards who don't.
Throw some hot soapy water over the wheels then hose off near a drain. Sorry you have to deal with this OP. My buggy days are behind me but I still remember the rage.

OrionNebula · 22/03/2023 11:50

BaroldFromEastenders · 21/03/2023 19:03

Because you don’t watch where you’re going?

Are you for real? So it's fine for people to let their dogs shit everywhere and not pick it up and it's everyone else's responsibility to just avoid it?

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 22/03/2023 12:13

@AlwaysGinPlease

Ridiculous?

It's simple, same approach is used to train a dog to shit on demand. Didn't you know? Rewards, repetition - same as teaching all the other 'tricks'.

Thing is, there are far too many lazy, irresponsible dog owners that can't be bothered or are ignorant of the fact that dogs can be trained in this way. They would rather use public streets as dog 'toilets' and return to their fetid, dog-perfumed homes as soon as the deed is done.

BubziOwl · 22/03/2023 12:17

BasiliskStare · 21/03/2023 19:11

There is no excuse for people not picking their dogs poo . None. But where I live it is not all over the pavement etc. People do pick up. Speak to the council & maybe they can put up some signs - where I live there is a ( I think ) £200 fine for not picking up your dogs poo. To be getting it all over the wheels and spokes it must be a huge problem , the like of which I don't encounter here. ( Not saying you are wrong - not at all ) but if the problem is really that bad I would speak to the council.

I know it is an MN thing but where I live most dog owners are not selfish & lazy. But all different in different areas I suppose.

The council put up lots of those signs in our village due to the horrendous dog poo situation. Unfortunately the type of person who lets their dog poo on the floor tends to also be the type of person who doesn't really care about polite notices from the council.

Sceptre86 · 22/03/2023 12:25

I do the school run and I know where the likely spots are. I think it's the same suspect who does it there so can preempt and look ahead. I find it harder getting my 5 year old to keep an eye out as he is away with the fairies on the way home and doesn't care to look. He will then cry all the way home. Like you I park the pram in the garage. I use a watering can to clean the wheels before I park it up or use a hose.

It is annoying when I encounter it on the main street and near the school but what can you do. For every responsible dog owner there's one who isn't. I feel as though it's a problem that has gotten worse in recent years.

Strawberrypicnic · 22/03/2023 12:35

I'm a dog owner and always pick up, it really annoys me too OP. It's completely scummy. My dog stays on lead too so he can't go to the toilet without me noticing. I think part of the problem is that nobody wants to challenge the type of people who typically leave it. I wouldn't risk verbal and physical abuse as a dog warden or park warden, let alone as just another member of the public.

Lockheart · 22/03/2023 13:24

You can only partly train a dog to poo on command, the same way a human could only sometimes poo on command if the command was timed correctly. Notwithstanding any digestive illness or bad food, which renders the whole thing quite impossible in any event.

Thesharkradar · 22/03/2023 13:28

Noshowlomo · 21/03/2023 18:50

Because dog owners are pure filth. Same where I live on the walk to my sons school. It’s disgusting and people are so so lazy and dirty

This^
I can't think why anyone would keep a dog, even a 'good' dog going that is a person who has to walk along swinging a little bag of dog shit
whenever I see a dog about to shit or a person about to pick it up or a person walking along swinging a little bag of dog faeces I feel sick and I try to walk as far away from them as possible.
And yes I am also sick to death of the piles of dog faeces littering the streets and pavements 🤢🤢🤢

ElectricMagpie · 22/03/2023 13:40

Solution is to boil a kettle and pour the water over the dirty wheel in the garden; the majority of muck will slide off.

BaroldFromEastenders · 21/03/2023 19:03

Lockheart · 22/03/2023 15:15

ColdHandsHotHead · 22/03/2023 13:44

She shouldn't need to!

Come on now, everyone needs to look where they're going. There's traffic, other people, small children running about or on scooters, mud, loose paving stones or potholes, puddles, dirt, lampposts, bins, cafe tables and chairs etc.

As lovely as it would be to drift through life not looking where we're going, you'd quickly end up injuring yourself.

AlwaysGinPlease · 22/03/2023 20:14

@Thesharkradar 🤣 too ridiculous

Quveas · 22/03/2023 21:57

Noshowlomo · 21/03/2023 19:17

@Quveas you inserted the word “all”, I didn’t. Another post I said, “not all, but enough”.

Well done on picking up after your dog which is the basic minimum you should be doing when it craps on the street

No I didn't insert anything. You said "dog owners" and only qualified it with "some" at a later stage after being pulled up on it. And just to be clear - you really need to read the law because disabled dog owners (whether or not their dogs are service dogs) are exempted where it is not possible for them to comply.

To be honest I am pretty gobsmacked at all these areas overrrunning with dog poo. I won't say that every dog owner around here is responsible, but there simply isn't the amount that everyone here seems to find around their streets and parks. Perhaps people should move to better areas? BTW, I live in one of the worst off 10% areas in the country. Maybe it's just middle class people who are so bad?

threeplusmum · 22/03/2023 22:08

Yes I dislike dogs and their owners, they should be shipped to an island of their own and let the dogs crap to their hearts content all over the place...

We're already on an island. Perhaps dog-haters could bugger off to the mainland of Europe if they feel so strongly. 😂
