To ask why my buggy is permanently covered in dog shit?!!

Mummypig32 · 21/03/2023 18:49

I push a double buggy. I'm out and about a lot, walks, baby naps, school run etc. It's a really nice buggy as well, most expensive thing I ever bought and I love it.

Sadly it's now fucking revolting and I'm considering just setting the whole thing on fire.

Every day I seem to end up with dog shit on the wheels. I dont have a dog. I used to like dogs now I fucking detest the vile creatures and the morons who own them. I'm sorry to all the good dog owners out there but I am so SICK of having to sit with a stick and scrape smelly revolting POO put of the pram wheels.

It makes me physically sick and the smell stays with me and its just so horrible and disgusting and it's literally several days a week.

We live in a small town and I wonder if it's particularly bad round here...it does feel like everyone has a dog. But Jesus fucking christ does NO ONE pick up the poop?!!!

Obviously I try to not wheel through it, I do look and try and avoid it but clearly it's not possible because i still end up with it on the wheels.

The last straw was this morning I put the brakes on and got the kids out, went in house abd removed my shoes and then saw I had dog poo on my ankle...as I'd put on the foot brake, my ankle must of touched the wheels and poo had got on my clothes 🤢🤮🤢🤮🤢🤮😭

So my question is (sorry I just get so angry about this!!!) Does anyone have a brilliant tool they use for washing the buggy especially the wheels? I'm thinking like a brush/hose type thing...something I can actually wash it with properly? Or do I just get a big bucket and a dish brush? 🤔

@DizzyLizzyKizzy

Bully for you!

Can I ask you a genuine question?

Would you like dog shit on your worktop?

Can you answer honestly?

DizzyLizzyKizzy · 21/03/2023 23:38

@LucyWildeGru yeah it's not going to happen, just to manage your expectations!

No, I wouldn't and guess what's it's never happened to me!

I honestly do not encounter dog shit where I walk on even a yearly basis.

I cannot recall the last time, I trod, wheeled a bike etc through dog shit.

My DDog is partial to a roll in fix shit on occasion, but I have a hose with a brush to deal with that.

@DizzyLizzyKizzy

Well it's happening - that's the truth. Traces, however microscopic, or clearly visible are a filthy disgrace. All it takes is a single coli bacteria to make someone very sick.

I'm deliriously happy that you have not had dog shit on your kitchen worktop - congratulations.

Dog shit in public places is a modern scourge and should be stopped. We have moved on from human excrement in streets in medieval times - only to be replaced by the dog shit belonging to ignorant pigs. It's filthy and it's a health hazard. And guess what - it gets walked inside buildings. Obviously not buildings belonging to you - but hey, you're a very lucky person.

Clearly I have traces of dog shit walk into buildings, also of fox shit, rat shit, mouse shit.

Visible lumps, no I don't experience that.

I'm sorry you do, but I'm just stating my point.

Because you don’t watch where you’re going?

You shouldn't have to watch where you're going on pavements to avoid dog poo!

OP, it's disgusting I totally agree with you. The smell is awful and, of course, very unhygienic.
I don't know what to suggest.
As a dog owner, I probably notice the dog poo left on pavements or grass verges more often than the average person, purely because it's in my view as I look down at my dogs. The problem is much, much worse now that it was 6-10 months ago. No idea why, but it is a real issue where I live and this is supposed to be a very nice area.

DontMakeMeShushYou · 22/03/2023 00:33

I very rarely see dog poo on the pavements and roads near me although there are a few grubby owners who seem to think that they don't need to pick up in the fields and woods. Back when I had a buggy to push around I very rarely got dog poo on the wheels - maybe 2 or 3 times in 5 years.

But surely it's not that hard to see and avoid for people without visual impairments? Not that I'm suggesting that it is okay for dog poo to be lying around but really, it's not that hard to see a turd as you approach it. It's that brown lump/splat on the floor in front of you! Obviously occasionally you might miss it and accidentally wheel through it but it sounds as though some posters are trailing through it on a daily basis. Are people that unobservant?

But to answer the OP (@Mummypig32 ) a Mud Daddy would be perfect for cleaning the wheels.

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 22/03/2023 00:42

@DizzyLizzyKizzy

This post is about dog shit on pram/pushchair/wheels.

I can honestly say I haven't seen fox, rat, mouse, sheep shit whatever on the pavements I walk, in order to childmind my grandchildren. No. Dog shit is definitely the bigger (only) problem. But if people have those type of animals for pets, and they were taken out to deliberately empty their bladders and colons on public pathways, you could bet that their would be a proportionate amount of their shit (fox, rat, mouse etc) on the pavements as well.

Fox shit in my garden? Yes - big garden. Hedgehog shit - yes. Mouse shit - yes. Cat shit - yes. I remove what is visible and make sure everyone washes their hands, take shoes off after being in the garden.

The problem I have is with people who deliberately use pavements as places for their dogs to shit on. Why can't they shit on the owners property? I am not responsible for the shit of other people's dogs - the owners are. Yet is it made to be my problem - I have to clean up dog shit. I can deal with the shit of wild animals - that is hardly deliberate and seldom on pavements. But the vast amount of shit that the general public encounter outside, in public places is dog shit from dogs who are taken out for the sole purpose of shitting in the street so as not to foul their owner's property.

And I'm just stating facts.

You should see the amount of dog shit in the town centre where my youngest daughter lives. Yes - the town centre (not a grassed area where you could find the shit of other wild animals) where there is at least 4 dog shops in that small area - and a disproportionate amount of dog shit. It's a very affluent place. Hmmmm.

Dogs destroyed, because of their owners.... that's not going to happen.

Happens all the time here in lambing season. Idiot owners think that Fido the labcockgoldenbernerdoodle couldn’t possibly contemplate worrying sheep.

Farmers feel quite differently when said dog does actually start worrying the sheep and dog ends up shot & destroyed.

WiddlinDiddlin · 22/03/2023 04:17

Haven't run over a dog shit (and theres six wheels on my wheelchair, precisely none of which I can see whilst sat in it) in aaaaaaaaages. Harder to avoid the broken glass that is everywhere though - I guess dogs will somehow be to blame for this too...

Have most recently had to clean human baby shit off my dog when he stepped in a used nappy (he is blind). It was all mushed up between his paw pads and he has long fur, so that was a fucking delight for me.

I surmise from this all parents of babies are disgusting filthy fuckers and babies are vile creatures.

Yeah, I get your sentiment, but of course you'll be told it doesn't work that way.

In fairness I don't think we'd had a dog hating thread for about 3 hours, so one was due!

We ALWAYS pick up our dog poop. Without fail. Don't tar us all with the same brush. Thanks.

No! even when 'YOU' pick it up, there is still bits left on the ground especially if the poo is loose! I totally feel for the op😟Why should she suffer because of bloody dogs and selfish dog owners. If I was in charge of the country I would make it law all dogs had to wear some sort of nappy whilst out walking. Then the owners can have the problem of washing the shit off the dogs behind when they got home! I bet not many people would have dogs then!

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 22/03/2023 05:04

If there wasn't a dog shit problem, people wouldn't be complaining about it.

Only ignorant dog owners deny there is a problem.

That statement is not saying all dog owners are ignorant.

Deliberately leaving any trace of shit for others to encounter is disgusting - fact.

Dog owners can protest their innocence as loudly as they want, dog shit on pavements doesn't get there by magic. Dog owners deliberately take their animals out to shit on pavements to avoid having to clean up shit on their own property.

Train your animals to shit on command and make them shit elsewhere than public paths. If they can sit on command, they can shit on command and that's another fact.

My relative's guide dog could shit on command - so can anyone else's dog.

Brown888 · 22/03/2023 05:18

OP I fully agree with you. It's utterly disgusting.
Often find myself on the roads with my double pram as the pavements have multiple poos on them with no wiggle room.
I've started to avoid walking anywhere as the amount of poo is overwhelming
I hate walking past a pets at home store as usually there's decomposing poo and wee all around the entrance.

What is ironic is that the British public consider themselves civilised. What civilised people are happy to live surrounded by poo? I've seen less animal poo and cleaner streets in some of the poorest parts of the world.

Dirtydiesel · 22/03/2023 05:37

"but really, it's not that hard to see a turd as you approach it. It's that brown lump/splat on the floor in front of you!"

We have an older child with an sn buggy and both child and buggy are big it is difficult to see the pavement immediately in front. Also squashed brown plant matter and squashed dog poo look similar until right next to them and with a big buggy/wheelchair it is impossible to avoid all brown marks on the pavement.
We do a lot of walking in country parks and forest trails and we rarely encounter dog poo there but some local pavements are covered in it.

It’s not that hard to see if there’s a clear pavement with a solitary shit on it no. The problem I have is that the pavements round here are absolutely covered in it so you swerve to avoid one bit but there’s another bit to the side then another bit in front of that…
I have to be constantly vigilant and looking at the pavement to avoid it, god forbid I take my eyes off the ground to look at one of the children or to look at anything else around me.

I’m tempted to take some pictures on the school run now so people can see just how bad it is. It must be hard to imagine if you live somewhere where there’s just the occasional bit.

MapleSyrupSweet · 22/03/2023 06:57

RudsyFarmer · 21/03/2023 19:04

Out of curiosity where do you think you’re encountering the dog poo? Are you wheeling through long grass? I haven’t stepped in dog poo since I was a kid and have never had it on pram wheels. I’m intrigued!

This.

Most fog owners are inconsiderate and unhygienic to boot. The amount of posters on here who admit to letting their dog lay on their sofa or bed is astounding. This is why dog owners houses and clothes have that particular smell.

Mummypig32 · 22/03/2023 07:59

OK folks...answers to your questions...

  1. No I'm not walking through long grass, I'm talking about the regular pavement. Outside shops and schools and houses. The general world. I know its not like this everywhere bur it is in many places so if you don't have this problem it's not because you're an extra vigilant clean clever person it's because you're lucky!!!

  2. Even if I was walking though long grass would that make it OK 🙃like it's OK if you walk through dog shot it was nicely hidden, until a lawn mower comes along and shredds it and sprays it all over the place or a child rubs through it?! Christ alive.

  3. YES it's a double buggy and it's a side by side and this is the most irrelevant point ever. I don't care if I'm pushing a 6 kid carrying baby wagon it's still not my fault if there's dog shit on a pavement.

  4. Yep i suppose due to my pram I'm more likely ro wheel through verges and edges, I can see less as I walk and there's 4 big wheels and more chance of me accidentally hitting poo. Again though this is NOT the point. Does it not count if your dog shits in the edge??? Of course it does. Do I not deserve to be safe and keep my babies safe from illnesses because I use a double pram?? Ffs.

  5. "NADOALT!" Oh be quiet. No, we no. No one's said ALL dog owners. The fact is MOST are. The vast majority. Because the evidence is on the paths, my shoes, my buggy. Its not one or two owners.... It is most!!! No one is tarring you all with the same brush but any decent, responsible dog owner would acknowledge this problem and be equally furious and disgusted by it and not deny it or start making this about semantics.
