Randoms using my wheelie bin for their dog shit!

dogpoobin · 17/03/2023 08:39

I'm fuming. Put my wheelie bin at the top of my driveway last night for collection today, it's fairly full so the top is slightly open. Just went out this morning (it hasn't been emptied yet) and noticed someone has placed two bags full of dog shit in my bin on top of my rubbish bags! AIBU or is this absolutely disgusting? I don't have a dog and I don't want dog shit in my bin.

Why have you posted an AIBU when you’re not prepared to listen to people that tell you that they think you are?

for the record I would be annoyed yes, I have a dog and if he shits on the way back from his walk and there is no bin I put the bag in our bin. If it’s a once off I’d move past it; if it’s a regular thing I’d be more annoyed.

vivainsomnia · 17/03/2023 09:18

I'm a dog owner and have faced this dilemma a couple of times. My OH view was that it doesn't matter, a bin is a bin, mine was to wonder whether it would upset the owner.

This has only arisen when I know there are no public bins at all anywhere on our walk (walks on the way to countryside). I don't have an issue walking with it 10mns if I know there is a bin but yes, I am not so keen to walk with it for 1h or more and so hope that the owner indeed doesn't mind.

twoandcooplease · 17/03/2023 08:45

It would bother me. I pay £17.42 every 4 weeks for my bins to be cleaned so that'd really piss me off

£17 🥺🥺🥺🥺 how many bins do you have? Mine are cleaned for £2.50 😂

QuizzlyBear · 17/03/2023 09:19

Nope, couldn't get upset. You'd hate me, I've done this - bins out on the street on collection day and they're full? I've added a securely wrapped poo bag. It's sitting there for maybe an hour or two, not touching your actual bin or anything else, absolutely zero harm to you and yours.

If they put it in your recently emptied bin, then yes, that's rude.

Neededanewuserhandle · 17/03/2023 09:19

Dotjones · 17/03/2023 08:47

It's not acceptable. Put your dog's shit in your own bin or find a public one. I have a fantasy where all the people who say "it's fine" wake up to find their wheelie bin full of other people's dog shit because some fluke made every dog walker happen to pick the same one.

This isn't something I'd (I have a dog) do but it wouldn't bother me to find some extra in my bin on bin day.

19lottie82 · 17/03/2023 09:16

it's fucking unacceptable and nothing will convince me otherwise.

So why post on AIBU? 🤷‍♀️

To vent??!

I really don't think I need therapy because of an aversive reaction to some random dog's shit in my bin. Ffs.

But it's not "in your life" it's a very temporary addition to your bin!

As a bit of much needed light relief, our office looks for a Mumsnet thread of the day. Nominations have to be in by 3pm, and we then discuss and pick one over our afternoon coffee break. Friday’s winner in particular is important, because it’s always good to start the weekend on a high.

However, we’ve already decided that you’ve won today, and closed the competition. A complaint about people putting stuff that should go into a bin, into a bin, has secured your glory and got you printed out and pinned to the special spot of our notice board.

Congratulations, OP! Sorry, there’s no cash prize or anything. But you’ve cheered fourteen of us up today, so hopefully that is reward enough.

Easternext · 17/03/2023 09:23

Unless your planning on eating your dinner out off the bin who cares, it's in a bag and in a bin could be worse could be left on the street for you to step in!!

ShirleyPhallus · 17/03/2023 09:24

Omg who cares, the bin is literally about to be emptied in minutes. It’s not like they posted it through your letterbox

OP: AIBU?

90% responses: Yes, you are

OP: It's fucking unacceptable and nothing will convince me otherwise

Not sure why you posted, OP?

35965a · 17/03/2023 09:25

It would piss me off because I’m out area the binmen won’t empty the bin if the lid isn’t 100% closed and they won’t empty it if there’s anything not in black bags. Yes they are strict about it too. So a dog shit bagged and put on top would mean potentially that bin won’t be emptied.

35965a · 17/03/2023 09:25

Because in our* area

Tbf, you are actually asking a question on "AIBU?". There's an actual question mark as part of the topic.
Maybe it would be more productive to vent on "Chat" or something?
Obviously it's up to you to post where you like but I suspect it'll make a difference to the type of replies you get.

CheersForThatEh · 17/03/2023 09:26

Yanbu. If you have a dog you expect to pick up its shit and take it home or to the nearest public dog bin. Surely people arent walking their dogs that far from home or know the route well enough to know where the next bin is.

kindlyensure · 17/03/2023 09:27

Urgh, I have a dog and always pick up poo but I wouldn't put it in someone else's bin, it kind of feels weird - a bit like dumping it on their property?

What you put in your bin is between you and your refuse collector. I wouldn't want to rock your relationship by shoving my dog's shit in there.

Nolongera · 17/03/2023 09:27

dogpoobin · 17/03/2023 08:53

Why could they not have carried it home and put it in their own bin? Or used one of the many public bins in the area? No excuse, it's fucking unacceptable and nothing will convince me otherwise.

Then why have you asked AIBU?

FWIW I don't think you are, we only use public dog poo bins normally, on bin day I might drop it in my own knowing it was going that day but never in someone else's.

But then I wouldn't put anything in someone else's bin.

Someone up thread spends £17.42 every 4 weeks on having their bins cleaned, crazy. It's a bin.At the height of summer I might swill ours with some bleach and boiling water.

200 quid a year, blimey.

Rinkydinkydoodle · 17/03/2023 09:27

I had a stranger’s dirty nappy in my bin once. Wouldn’t have minded much but it was just sitting there, half folded, and it wasn’t in a bag. My bin wasn’t out on the street, it was up my driveway and beside my door, nor was it due to be emptied for a while. Took it out and bagged it. Assumed a delivery person or someone had had to bring their baby with them on their rounds, and thought we wouldn’t mind. I feel like other people’s bins aren’t really a place to put unexpected jobbies but I seem to be in a minority!

Easternext · 17/03/2023 09:28

Am just wondering how many bin Inspectors are out there? O no someone is by my bin better check they haven't popped anything in it while it's waiting to be emptied, I'll come back an update if they did or not...

MissMaple82 · 17/03/2023 09:28

Ffs it's wrapped in plastic and it's a bin that's about to be emptied at any moment!

Frabbits · 17/03/2023 09:29

It's a bin. Who the fuck cares.

And I do think that people who pay to get their bins cleaned are slightly unhinged.

This is one of the reasons I miss working - I'd have definitely tried to get this started as a tradition.
Sadly, I can't see DH entering into the spirit...

28January · 17/03/2023 09:30

Bin about to be emptied and dog poo bagged, really can’t see the problem. Bin just emptied so will get squashed by other rubbish and hang around smelling for another week, not ok. I wouldn’t do it but I only get annoyed in the second scenario.
