Randoms using my wheelie bin for their dog shit!

I'm fuming. Put my wheelie bin at the top of my driveway last night for collection today, it's fairly full so the top is slightly open. Just went out this morning (it hasn't been emptied yet) and noticed someone has placed two bags full of dog shit in my bin on top of my rubbish bags! AIBU or is this absolutely disgusting? I don't have a dog and I don't want dog shit in my bin.

I welcome people using my bin for poo bags.

Id much rather that then then be left behind.

Are you usually a germaphobe OP? As I'm not sure why you're so disgusted to even walk past a properly bagged one in a bin.

Do you have to be a "germaphobe" to not want to look at someone else's dog's shit at eye level when you walk into your front door of your home? I'd argue not.

I have a dog and never put the poo bags in other people bins but thats because we have a lot of dog poo bins where i live. But if someone put a poo bag in my bin it wouldnt bother me at all, rather there than not picked up and left on the pavement.

watcherintherye · 17/03/2023 09:08

Logically, bagged rubbish from whichever source, put in a receptacle designed for that purpose, shouldn’t bother me. For some reason, though, if it were my bin, but not my rubbish (poo, in particular!)I know it would. That being the case, I wouldn’t dream of doing it to someone else.

LabiaMinoraPissusFlapus · 17/03/2023 09:09

I think that's disgusting. Can you put it out last minute? I hate dogs and their poo!

How many times are you genuinely walking past it. It will be emptied shortly it's not like it's going to be sitting there for a week.

Rooiboss · 17/03/2023 09:10

It’s legal and you are allowed to do it. It’s a bin that’s what it’s for, the bins belong to the council, as long as the poo is bagged up it’s not an issue

notforonesecond · 17/03/2023 09:10

I think I’d be mildly disgusted if I noticed that but would let it go if the bin was about to be emptied.

I’d be a lot more unimpressed if the bin wasn’t going to be emptied for a while and the dog shit would be there festering.

I genuinely think dog owners are so desensitised from picking up shit all the time (or looking at it on the ground and walking away) that they actually don’t find it disgusting any more. I don’t have a dog, I think it’s gross. I don’t think I should have to be in any way involved with or near to dog shit.

Imagine carrying shit around in a bag and thinking it’s ok to sling it in any old bin outside someone else’s house. Weird.

Escapetothecatshome · 17/03/2023 09:10

This happened to me after I'd had my bins emptied and cleaned smelling beautiful and I found doggy bag in bottom which wouldn't be collected for another two weeks.
Where I live, I've learned to not get pissed off or upset by these "small things",
otherwise I'd be permanently annoyed, I'm constantly picking up rubbish round my house cups stuffed in my fence the works - sometimes the only thing you can do is let these things wash over you x

Crunchyb · 17/03/2023 09:11

Some of you lack imagination and, frankly, intelligence. I don’t want dog poo bags in my wheelie bin because (1) I can’t trust other people to dispose of it properly. The bag may not be tied properly. (2) In order to degrade more easily the poo bag may be thin, therefore more likely to split when other rubbish is placed on top of it. (3) My experience was that the poo bag clung to the bottom of the wheelie bin and wasn’t emptied with the rest of the rubbish so I had to get intimate with my wheelie bin to fish it out. That was not a pleasant experience. (4) Dog poo stinks, even when enclosed in a thin plastic bag. I don’t want my wheelie bin smelling of other people’s dog poo, thanks.

mackerelskymackerelsky · 17/03/2023 09:11

Honestly if the alternative to putting the bags in my bin, is to leave dog crap on the pavement for my children to step in, I would happily leave my bin out for other people to use.

I thought you said it was in a bag, also are you very small or your bins very tall?

This!!! Thank you for some sense.

Same. Wouldn't dream of it either.

I wouldn't mind if it was deposited appropriately, ie in the landfill bin and not the recycling or garden waste one. The bin is just going to be emptied isn't it? I'd rather people put bagged poo or litter in the (right) bins even if they're not their bins, rather than left on the street. Same with babies' nappies, better bagged and binned than dumped in public?

I can see you don't like it, but feeling sick about it seems to be a massive overreaction to me. It's bagged up, not just scraped up and dumped in its naked pooey glory? It must be very awkward to be so oversensitive, I'm sorry for you. Maybe therapy would help?

Eye level.. how small are you 😂
I couldn’t get bothered about it as a once off but wouldn’t want it used constantly by others. I put my own dogs shit In my waste bin properly bagged and never had any issue with it splitting or being hazardous waste. I
guessing this is not just a dog poo issue it’s an I hate dogs full stop issue

You can be me if you like, and take this along with all the other serious issues, like health problems and MH struggles and bereavement and trauma? No?? Didn't think you'd fancy that.

Looneytune253 · 17/03/2023 09:15

Genuinely couldn't get worked up if it's in a bag and bin is out to be emptied. And yes if you randomly happened to change your child's pooey nappy in the street next to a bin that was due to be emptied it would also be ok to pop the nappy in the top instead of carrying it around.

LaMarschallin · 17/03/2023 09:16

Yeah the lid isn't properly shut either so it's just set there as I walk past my property

This would worry me more, not that I'd be "walking past my property" while the bin's waiting for collection because I'd either be inside my property or out, but our bin collectors are a bit sensitive to partially open lids and have been known not to empty a bin if its lid isn't fully closed.
It's never happened to ours but it would be a major pain if it did. So to have the lid propped open even further would definitely annoy me.
Other than that, I don't think I'd be too bothered if the bin was obviously out, waiting to be emptied. Tbh, I doubt I'd notice unless I went to open the bin to add more rubbish; then I'd think "Cheeky buggers" and have a quick moan to DH.

I really don't think I need therapy because of an aversive reaction to some random dog's shit in my bin. Ffs.

it's fucking unacceptable and nothing will convince me otherwise.

So why post on AIBU? 🤷‍♀️

Sartre · 17/03/2023 09:17

It wouldn’t bother me personally, I’d just be grateful they didn’t leave it on the pavement like many dog owners do…

Peachtoiletpaper · 17/03/2023 09:18

I used to live beside a park and had this all the time as there wasn't a bin at the gate. Didn't care at all re normal bin but it was very annoying when it went in the recycling. Better in my (correct) bin than on the street and there are plenty that think that's an acceptable choice so I'd try not to let it bother you. If it's bagged up what's really the harm?

On the other hand, what's with the multiple bags of shite left hanging up on hedges or fences? I understand people sometimes leave them with a view to binning after their walk and one may occasionally get forgotten. However I've seen, in several places, multiple of the same bag in the same place so presumably some people are bagging and leaving in some random designated area rather than finding a bin. Why?!

LaMarschallin · 17/03/2023 09:18

Posted too soon - was going to add that I'd prefer that than having it left on the pavement, or having the bags tied to trees which is incredibly annoying.
