Personally I did. I was in a managerial position. Couldn't go back part time after mat leave as the role didn't exist part time. Ended up moving down a pay grade.
What I want to know is how many women already earn less pre children, therefore making them the ones to sacrifice their careers (temporarily) and how many do so because they want to be the ones who stay at home due to enjoying raising children more, breastfeeding, PND, birth trauma etc.
I have no agenda, just curious

I earned more than double, and still do, despite dropping a day.

More but I HATED my job (loved the people but the job itself was stress city!) I moved the second I could, became a sahm after 3 because I couldn’t bear paying to commute and not see my kids, and now work minimum wage in a job I adore. Dh stayed in same job and moved up, earns well but long hours long commute, stressful, can’t get time off at certain times of the year. So I see the challenges women face but I’m lucky in that I never faced any of them (and I’d say dh would switch any time for an easier life lol!!)

I earned more than him. I out more into the house.

After dc1 I went PT. Stayed PT after dc2 my salary would now still be higher than his if I was FT.

It worked for us until now, looking at pension amounts, and there is a massive gap. His is great, but mine is paltry.

My partner has always earned at least 10x more than me. I don't see that changing.

Emotionalstorm · 16/03/2023 17:58

Gap is too big.

I earned more, £45k. I went from full time to part time and earned less, £20k. He got two promotions and went from £24k to £60k. The decision to go part time for me was easier. I want to be with my kids as much as possible. I enjoy it. My job has a ceiling height whereas his doesn't and he gets big bonuses whereas in my area its a 1-2% pay rise a year and bonuses just aren't a thing.

I'm self employed now and do 2 days a week. We have 3 kids and he has compressed hours so has our 1 year old one day during the week when I'm at work. It's a good balance for us.
